Good idea, they are certainly doing a tutorial/prologue part again. -
Keys and keys

Also, people were already asking for them, so they got that off their backs too. -
There are good books, music, movies [...] but the thing with games is they have something no other medium has. Interactivity. If you put 10 people in front of a movie they might laugh at different parts, but ultimately they will still have seen the same movie. In... let's say BioShock Infinite there's a scene in which the player can just keep running towards the next mission objective, or (for seemingly no reason) explore an unremarkable side street. This will lead to a bar and this bar has a cellar. In it Booker can grab a guitar and Elizabeth will start singing while he plays. Only people who get sidetracked will ever find this, it's no problem to complete the game without doing this. But because it's something that only happens if you make it happen, this moment feels like it becomes yours. No movie can do this. Movies finish if you fall asleep while they are running without you. This obviously can be even more intense in good RPGs, which can allow so much player choice. Oh and of course there's also the "it keeps the voices at bay" thing people have already mentioned.

Homecoming

That's what I'm thinking too. It will be addressed, but they can't possible have a super elaborate backstory for ever possible combination. There are just way too many backgrounds and origin stories in the game! -
You haven't played BG2 if you didn't find Lilarcor. Totally, I thought this was the most memorable thing about the game. It's always the first thing falling into my mind when BGII comes up. I loved everything about it. It's just great that you get Lilarcor from a quest - and a quest you can miss no less. Then it's a powerful, TALKING sword and lots of the stuff it says is really funny. Like most people (I assume) I gave it to Minsc. A crazy guy using a crazy sword. Unforgettable.

I wasn't even aware Pallegina had this many endings, she's one of my favorite characters. She always became a kind wayfarer in my games. Which I actually like. From that position it makes a lot of sense she would be in Pillars 2 as well. Don't see why she would leave (to travel with the Watcher again) when she's rose the ranks in the Republics.

Keys and keys
huang replied to Melusina's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I already have Pillars 1 on GOG, so I'm going to add Pillars 2 there as well. Since the keys will only become relevant on April 3, when the download becomes available, I don't care about them yet at all. Until the downloads start (I don't think they do pre-loads), the keys are "useless". -
It makes me really sad hearing this (I had no idea), I really liked the White March. The Devil of Caroc was probably my favorite companion. The whole production was really high quality. They even changed the main campaign for it. Even the base game has some reactivity for playing the White March. I did not expect that.

What's with all the paypal money etc. that was collected after the fig campaign ended? From your postings I presume this doesn't count towards the stretch goals anymore? While the money for Ydwin wasn't collected during the initial Fig campaign, it might have been collected after it. They only shut down the backer portal this week after all...

That looks weird Looks like mirror-universe Aloth. -
I for one love great patch support. I only hate the opposite. Gotta be honest, so far it never happened to me that a patch made my experience with a game worse. But as far as Pillars 2 is concerned, I have a feeling that the sequel will have fewer bugs. 1 was so much tougher for them, having to build the engine alongside developing the game and learning everything from scratch. So there is the potential this time around, that at least the basics will be more solid. I'm going to play it day 1 anyway, just can't wait for the game to come out.

I'm all for decreasing the number of companions and improving the existing ones instead. This especially makes sense in a game like Pillars, which allows players to create their own characters and use those instead, in case they don't like pre-made characters. It must be all the more soul-crushing for devs, if they have created 20+ companions. Even back in Baldur's Gate I always thought they created too many of them. To this day I never had most of them in my party, although I played it like 3 times. I always use the usual suspects. Having 5 instead 6 characters in the group is a nice reflection of that.
