What are you Playing Now? - Back to the Grind
I'm a big fan of Wolverine. I named my child Logan, after all. But yeah, he played very similar to Spider-Man in terms of chain attacks, and we already had Blade to fill the brooding anti-hero role. This game just occupies such a strange spot in the Firaxis lineup. I don't finish a lot of games, but I do finish every Firaxis one, so it was weird that it took me so long to commit to playing this one. Once I did, I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I'm left hoping they leave this Marvel silliness behind and go back to Xcom. edit: Correction - I never played Haunted Hollow by Firaxis

What are you Playing Now? - Back to the Grind
Finally finished up Marvel Midnight Suns. It was a fantastic game from a combat perspective. I enjoyed the mix of Xcom style combat with card usage. The story and exploring the Abbey was good, for the most part. It got pretty tiring talking to all of these people about life. It felt kind of repetitive, I guess. Like, there were a lot of them wanting to talk to me about my mommy issues. I didn't even get the DLC characters, and I'm positive I don't need 4 more people to chew the fat with. I feel like the hero roster could be 6 and it would have been a more focused game.

The TV and Streaming Thread: US Writers/Actors Strike Edition
I don't think I'm built for stand up specials. I'm looking for a 5-10 minute set. An hour is too long. This is the best stuff though. Bit of language, spoiler:

Wonka is also firmly in musical territory. It isn't just the Oompa Loompa's singing (although Hugh Grant is a riot), it's the whole town. I woke up humming a few of them.

Things can't be that bad. It's in full color! That seems to be the main selling point. I bought Wonka last night and we watched it as a family. I was pretty skeptical about it. I grew up with the Gene Wilder movie and it was hard to imagine anyone could capture that magic. I never read the book, or at least I don't remember it. I watched the Johnny Depp version in theaters and was suitably creeped out. My kids grew up with both versions, but they definitely preferred the Gene Wilder version as well. It was very good. I'd say it was suitably magical. Timothy Chalamet was very good, and he was supported by an amazing cast.

Nope, it was definitely more like the McD's example. I suppose it would be more like, if you don't like this Chef's restaurant, you probably won't like his new location even though the menu is different. Larian makes a certain type of game, regardless of new setting and characters.

So Larian is Madonna and Black Isle was Whitney Houston? That analogy works for me! edit: Bioware is clearly Bobby Brown.

I mean, if it's a chain restaurant, and he didn't enjoy one chain, it's safe to say he isn't going to enjoy another. If you didn't enjoy the Divinity games, it's safe to say BG3 isn't going to change your mind.

nfl 2023-2024
The Niners seem to have found a formula where they only show up for the 2nd half of the game and manage to win. I guess if it ain't broke.

I'm saying there isn't anything to turn around. But yes, it will likely get a ton of updates and mods over the years. It really is Skyrim in space, so I'm not sure what else people were expecting out of it. I think people also have trouble seeing it as a success because BG3 was such a massive hit. BG3 blew up and became a pop culture phenomenon. Starfield just sold as expected for a Bethesda game. I enjoyed both, so I don't get what all the fuss is about. Jagged Alliance 3 was still better than both, btw.

I'm starting to feel like a broken record, but Starfield is a commercial success. It's harder to track all of this stuff, since it released on Gamepass on day 1, but it was a top seller. It's too early to track whether it will have staying power, but the initial release went very well for them. edit: They released something in December about 12 million people playing the game at this point. edit 2: Fallout 76, on the other hand, had mediocre sales in its first year. They are still developing it, I guess, so someone must be playing it. But it's reasonable to call that a bust.

I'm down to 2 small boxes of DVD's that my kids still watch pretty regularly. I've got a spot on my bookshelf for about 5 collector's item games, and that's it.

No, not really. The trailer was already better than the movie.

I lost access to Elf on Amazon the other day. I bought it 15 years ago on Prime Video, and suddenly I couldn't play it. Considering I use it to kill a bit of time on the last day of school before winter break, I was bummed. I thought, I can go and file a ticket with Amazon, or I can just re-buy it for $12. I bought it and enjoyed the last day of school with the kids.

Midnight Suns is eating up my time pretty well. It's pretty easy on normal. I've reached the 2nd act and the fights are a bit more diverse, but it is still pretty easy to win. The only loss I had was one of the personal missions where you and your dog take on the world, but I was able to reconfigure my deck a bit and win it easily the next time. It was also recommended for level 16 and I was 12, so I'm going to say normal mode is a bit easy. I'm enjoying trying to hook Captain Marvel up with Blade. Those are some socially awkward lovebirds.

Developer Direct presentation
I believe Starfield has sold well, so I'm not sure it is the disaster that Redfall was. It's basically Skyrim in space, so I don't know why it wouldn't meet expectations. I guess being a new IP might be the only difficult sales part.

Youtube recommendations, let's beat the algorithm
It lets me skip the ads after 5 seconds, so I don't really care. They have to make money somehow. Of course I also don't watch anything longer than 5-10 minutes on YT, so I probably don't use it like some of you.
