  1. Mmm, is that the new Aloth and Pallegina portraits?
  2. The people who want this should present examples of it working well. I can't think of a single example. A UI heavy game designed for a pulled out camera suddenly auto-centering and zooming in on assets that aren't designed for close cameras; Losing the gorgeous painstakingly crafted scenery just to look at animations that are nothing to write home about. All that, while I'm being asked to interface with this interaction through text. I've never seen it work, and the best implementation I can muster up doesn't even seem appealing.
  3. I've seen several studios downgrade textures post release, even when there aren't any glaring performance problems. At least make it an option. The worst I've seen was Valve which removed optional mip-map options.
  4. Has Obsidian made any acknowledgement of this concern of the communities. I know for the party size it's basically a "we're set on that decision" sort of thing. But the health change seems more like a response to some minor criticism on PoE1, that the team thought they'd try to address. Less of something they really have their hearts set on. Or maybe I'm mistaken in seeing it that way. Maybe it's one of those things that is still too early for them to nail down, so I can wait on their word. But, I'd hate for this to be a sort of mechanic that needs to be sorted out early, then turn out to be a step back from what we had. What we had was great, really almost optimific in my opinion.
  5. Fantastic thread, I think their rework of the UI would be the endeavor(Jiras!) that they could wrap a lot of these changes into. Basically there is a lot of underlying behavior that should either be conveyed in a more direct and understandable way. Or for things that remain naturally complex, should have concise way to dig down into the implementation details if need be. For that later, at least something that is programmatic and numerical so they don't have to keep rewriting their prose when they inevitably make balance changes.
  6. Yeah, I don't think the health system needed to be changed. The injury system doesn't really give me much confidence. Going for a continuous system to a discrete and further low-granularity system doesn't sound all that great to me. It will actually limit how they can balance the injury system which will force changes to it to be made to the mechanics that interface it, not the system itself. It's one the one system I'm not sure I want to "wait and see" how it plays out first.
  7. What exactly is a ranger? lol, this post reminded me of the "What's a paladin?" line in Ultima 9.
  8. The problem with Sagani wasn't just that she was written intentionally to subvert every trope in the book. It was also that she was a lore dumped and the writting of her largely defined what Boreal Dwarves are. Which is essentially just an Inuit sort of culture. She was sent away on what is supposedly a special honor. But she's a mother and constantly sites how she misses her family. It's not just that she is seaking out an elder, but she is basically giving up her entire presence with her people and with her family. It's not even a collaborative effort to seek out these elders, who have been proven to have moved on and often don't remember a damn thing about their past life. Plus she looks like she's 20 when she's technically 60 some years old. She's a milquetoast character that they couldn't figure out whether she was supposed to be empowered, or a tragic character. She lacked autonomy because she was carrying out a ritualistic quest.
  9. Starting items should be briefs and bras. You start the game drunk in the last hand of a game of strip poker. You've lost your items and armor. Defeated, you struggle your way out the back door of the bar only to notice the sunrising and the née poker minute crew sailing away with your ship. "He Watcher!" Cries someone to your right. "Long time no see, not since Eothas caught up on his sleep. Something you seem due for yourself. Say... where's your pants?" Edér eyes you top to bottom. You pass out.
  10. Which is why having the "soul-dive" tied to the watcher is a good idea.
  11. I feel like Animancers should be something on-top of everything else. Like how the Watcher is on top of everything else.
  12. Do you think that he is a complicated character? Need to admit, he definitely has some depth, enough for a sidekick. You make a great case for expanding his character. Companion it is!
  13. That's a good point. Most often I don't like the characters that end up romance-able. It's like they are trying to fit in narrative options to please people. Writing characters and seeing where that takes you is much better.
  14. You mean when the GM made a joke and some crazy places on the internet decided to take it out of context? Yes, Mass Effect Andromeda will have nudity, as many AAA games have now, it's because games as a media can now contain nudity without causing a panic. Nudity doesn't mean that the romance is valueless, instead we don't run into extremely awkward scenes of people showering in their underwear. Oh, I see.
  15. I humbly prefer Witcher aproach to sex. If chracters will make love you will see it all, since that was your game choice, exept dongs, since dongs are hell to animate. But rigid body animation is the most primitive of animation disciplines.
  16. I just read that Mass Effect Andromeda will have full nudity and full on soft core porn. How's that for romance? Obsidian really doesn't want to run that arms race, I'll say that now
  17. Why would I want to fight against the gods from the team of another god. Kill all the gods. Down with the lot of them I say.
  18. It's kind of funny because that outfit is something a young English lord would have worn back in the day.
  19. Yeah, I don't get the weeaboo talk surrounding Ydwin. It's like people that indulge in anime lack the language to talk about a young women. It's like western cartoonists were too prude or something to draw certain female body types that anime has layed claim to those forms. Which is odd. Maybe if she looked like Jessica Rabit or Velma people would not have thought her as being animu.
