  1. Yeah, there are many---many RPGs have been developed within those guidelines in the recent years(all of them turn based) whether they succeeded in each or any of the points is debatable but when you are Obsidian and you dedicate 50 person team for a game; it needs to stand out somehow with its production quality, and feature-richness and whatnots, otherwise it'd be harder to make a profit. Obsidian is not your typical, new in the industry small indie RPG dev, they haven't made "indie" games before PoE and most of its fan base expect "bigger" games from them and obviously Obs gravitate towards that when they can afford it; otherwise they wouldn't have increased their budget for PoE2 and kept making games with smaller teams as when they had to. They can still make games with small teams(size of Tyranny, PoE1 or even smaller PA) but it doesn't seem to be their current plan or primary objective atm.
  2. It is. Just cos something, in this case VO isn't important for you, doesn't make it an expendable feature for the reason that it limits editing alone. They are committing to doing "much more VO" so it must have make sense for them; they must be thinking it will help with the sales, they could be considering their target audiences' expectations and clearly they can afford it. As for VO quality concerns, come the **** on; does this game have cutting edge graphics? cutting edge mo-capped animations? and cutting edge whatevers? Yeah it has "good" quality graphs & anims, much better than the first game but its an AA game after all; why when it comes to VO it has to be top quality(I don't think Pillars 1 had bad quality VO/voice actors so I guess you people want famous actors for it or something?) or none?
  3. Its their(writers'/producers') job to schedule/make time for editing before they record it. Nothing seems to be ideal in game development anyway, they just need to do the best they can. It could also be better if they can edit on site while recording; when they hear an actor speak a line and it sounds off somehow as opposed to writers editing it themselves tho they most certainly know this and most prolly have other practices also like reading each others work etc. Anyway they are supposed to be one of the best in the biz. in game writing with a great "writing tool" apparently so they should work around the issue of finishing their work earlier for VO with as little compromise as possible.
  4. VO in Skyrim was a joke, half the male population had VO of whoever voiced that Ralof dude. But some mods for Skyrim had excellent VO, studios should track those people down.
  5. Nuff with the combat talk Do these NPCs in the village that I saw in the vids who are entering & exiting scenes every 5 secs have a reason to move around that frequently? Do they have jobs that require it so or are they not so lazy **cks who just roam the village non-stop all day out of boredom? One thing I like in Bethesda games is that NPCs always have a reason to move around; that most NPCs are rushing to work in the morning around the same time and going to inn/home in the evening etc. they don't just roam around for no reason except for few of them who have. And I'm assuming NPC schedules' effect on quests can't be tested yet in the beta, right?
  6. Sawyer says the AI packages in Pillars 1 were too aggressive(as in too good/efficient) and its why Pillars 1 played better than he expected in consoles therefore only lower difficulties will have "aggressive" behavior presets in Deadfire. Yeah, I thought this bit was interesting...way to integrate this into difficulty levels And a sign that he's not trusting better players[at this game] not to exploit this system, at least not too easily since potentially everyone can make the same or better AI presets in any difficulty level themselves.
  7. Yeah its expensive but making it for only one language should be a mitigating factor, no? I mean if an AAA game that sells 2+ million copies can afford to have full VO in 3+ different languages, an AA game(deadfire) that's projected to sell around 1 million(I guess) should be able to for only one language, I think. Altho an Obsidian RPG usually contain a lot more lines of dialogue than most AAA titles :/ I like VO, give me full VO if you can afford to have it in your game and I don't usually notice bad VO in games but if I do notice any; its almost always because of badly written dialogue rather than bad voice acting.
  8. Won't the low level spells get more powerful with power levels indefinitely and won't truly stay as "low level spells"?
  9. As Wormerine said already & from what I remember only Eder(if he ain't dead) will be with us till we reach Deadfire Arc.
  10. Oh, what does Barbarian gain more?(have no beta access). If barb has some advantage, nothing should be changed! Have I mentioned that I love the current proficiency system and its just perfect? Barbarians are the only ones with Weapon Focus or whatever its called that gives +6 accuracy to proficient weapons. Hmn, may not stay exclusive after general talents reintroduced.

  12. Don't think there'll ever be no penalty modal, cos then why would it be a modal instead of straight up perma-buff? Only 2 ranks would be good IMO, with Black Jacket starting with all melee ones & Unbroken getting 1 or 2 more proficiency points and all other classes has to to choose between having modals on most and more efficient with some. Maybe there should be a penalty using weps that you're not proficient in so having the first rank becomes more attractive.
  13. I don't like throwing weps cos the obvious: how unrealistic it is carrying XX amount of axes or whatever. However I wouldn't mind them as abilities in the current system; throw as many as your power source allows which is not many. And I'm indifferent about ranged wep ammunitions tho it makes me stack lots more than I'd need so I think its better to have Stormcaller rather than electric arrows. Would be cool if other elements'callers also show up in Deadfire.
  14. You prolly played PoE right after it came out and not after Patch 2.0 which added AI scripts for companions, right?
  15. With those changes to injury system that not every injury will have a fixed 25% penalty, it will act more like an HP bar; rather an invisible one that dictates available endurance, now it just needs to be visible and deplete with damage again with maybe reducing injury HP penalties even further. Since its dictating available endurance, HP loss should be capped at 50%, if a character's below 50% HP, it should receive an enormous debuff and next KO should perma-kill him regardless of injury count. I didn't mind reduction on party size(for reasons) but with both HP/endu split gone and Might's getting chopped in half really takes away from PoE's uniqueness in its systems, maybe not that much effectively but in feels Just my 2 cents.

  17. Throwing equipped melee weapon/s to an enemy for a decent damage which leaves you unarmed for a short duration after, for barbarian. Short duration "evade every physical attack" ability for rogues. A quick attack which interrupts spell casting and silences the target for a very short duration for fighter. Banners for paladins, which they plant on the ground, giving 2x the active aura bonus to allies near it but cancels auras for the duration.
  18. I don't think they are mo-capping for PoE. Yes making games is hard yet quality of things varies among games, sometimes there is too much difference. There are more rpgs criticized for bad writing than their animations, writing is harder than animation by this logic therefore we shouldn't criticize writing neither!? At this point we just say what we think can make things better, if somethings are impossible improve with the resources they have or we're wrong in our assessments they won't improve them anyway
  19. What I expect is common sense, a little thought going into the move, a punch-like animation instead of that wouldn't be any harder to make or not holding the weapon that vertical, I'm not expecting intricate animations from both sides like what's in KCD vid. I already preemtively said "resembled" instead of "this should be exactly like this" for a possible comment like yours but wasn't enough it seems. ed: btw. this or any other animations are not deal breakers for me, they are just minor things catching my eye, I just think they could be better with little more effort/thought.
  20. It's comical, something you'd see in cartoons, not even close to realistic as described.
  21. Why wizards, druids, ciphers and priests can receive so much effort, resources and animations to ONE spell and fighters, rogues, barbarians and monks can't even get some decent melee animations? Look at the firebender stuff that Tyranny had, why monks in PoE can't have animations like that? Because its different world and different style. Tyranny was fanstastical, over the top with people flying in the air (literally!). Not that I didn't like it, but it wouldn't fit pillars. If they have time I would welcome a nice animation as long as its grounded and clear. Communicating stance via animation would be welcome but with such small characters it might be difficult to communicate without going over the top. Still, fix UI first than worry about style. Note that I specific said monks, a character that can make a clone and punch a dragon to death, the over the top part is already there, still I'm not saying that they need to fly, but a cool kick and a decent punch is welcome. Well... I think that fighters will be boring to watch... again. When asked why isn't this animation realistic, the answer is "cos it's fantasy", when asked why isn't it the same with the other fantasy game they have made, the answer is "this is more realistic". Either they don't give a **** or they don't have the time to put thought and care into melee animations. Pillars' Pommel Stirke "received new, more realistic!? animations" https://youtu.be/64U0n2SaNmI?t=149 When it should have at least resembled: https://youtu.be/xSy1gNyjSXk?t=127 Yeah different games and stuff but I said "resembled". Just a punch animation while holding the wep would have been 10x better. Other than that I already said my piece about how basic melee anims lacks finesse in other threads before.
  22. If min-maxers are ok with being forced to choose a specific race, they should be "more ok" with specific culture & background choices. Otherwise I want some godlike traits for my human character, Obs should let me
