IMO that's boring. Incredibly boring. It's also pointless, since talents determine your build in a much more specific way anyway. A character who has invested into Gunner, Two Handed Weapon, Marksman, and Shot on the Run isn't going to suddenly switch to dual wielding melee weapons on a whim.   6. what is this i cant even Yes, that is what barbarian means - it refers to culture. For the ancient Greeks, you were either Greek culture or you were Barbarian. For the classical Romans, you were either Roman culture, Greek culture, Egyptian culture, or Barbarian. For the medieval Christians, you were either a converted Christian (including the culture that goes with that) or you were Barbarian. Barbarian is not a word describing profession, location, or life experience. It's a word describing the culture someone comes from.
  7. Even without micro managing them, monks can be quite good. My own monk was dealing 19-24 damage with his fists by endgame, with 5 DR penetration and the fastest attack speed in the game. He couldn't burst, but man oh man could he melt things down. He had more than twice the damage of anyone else in the party, with tanking stats almost as good as Eder.

  9. Actually Might is pretty worthless for fast weapons. For the vast majority of them, each point of Might is worth less than half of a single point of damage. Furthermore, fast weapons (and shotguns) are often surprisingly good against armored opponents. For example, an Exceptional Blunderbuss deals about 10 dmg x 6 per attack. That means it deals 12 damage MINIMUM on a full hit. Even if the enemy has 20 piercing DR, you're still going to deal 12 damage per attack, thanks to the MIN damage mechanic (no attack ever deals less than 20% full damage).   10. Good god, people. Barbarian is a type of culture, Ranger is a profession. Ygritte was a barbarian ranger. She was from an 'uncivlized' nomadic group of hunter-gatherers, and her primary role in that society was as a scout/hunter/archer - ie a ranger. In the context of PoE, Barbarians are melee dps combatants, which is definitely NOT what Ygritte was. Ranger is closer, but as ygritte wasn't friend to the animals the mechanically best class to represent her would probably be rogue.
  11. I actually like that the difference between weapons matters, but is not as big as that it would lead to cookie-cutter choices in general. We don't want to limit the RP'ing too much, don't we? I think Obsidian nailed the weapon design in this game in the way that I don't gimp my character when selecting an odd weapon choice for my class, but it also allows some min/maxing for the completionists. Obvious examples: +accuracy weapons vs. +deflection weapons. Or armor penetrating weapons for low Might characters. There are plenty of tactical choices, but they won't turn combat upside down.

  13. The easiest way to take the dragon down is to literally take it down. Trip it. Reflex is its worst defense. I had my ranger root it (which reduces reflex) then I had my mage slicken it (targeting reflex). A prone dragon does not attack and is MUCH easier to hit. Once it's prone it's pretty easy to hit with any reflex-targeting abilities you have, which means many AoEs. Yes its hard to hit it with cc, but keep trying. Once you get the first one on, it becomes successively easier to hit with each additional cc. Don't let up. Incidentally, I found it helpful to run away at the start
  14. If any class needed ai macros, it's the monk. If you have a wound & swift strikes isn't active, activate swift strikes If you have 4+ wounds, use torment's reach on your current target
  15. I played a Monk, and one of my character's beliefs was "it's better to let go of the past and accept what has happened than to seek revenge or absolution". Another was "Power comes from enduring hardship and rising above it". So I let Maerwald go. I didn't want to chain him to eternal anything, and I didn't feel it was right to try to consume him for personal gain.
  16. I was at level 12, and I found it to be a fairly easy fight (playing on Normal). The Master Beneath Caed Nua feels like the real "final boss" of the game, to me.
  17. So basically I'd like to try modding some of the textures in the game, but I'm having a hard time finding the assets. I already found weapon icons, meshes, and textures. They're located in Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\assetbundles\prefabs\objectbundle But I can't figure out where to find the files for armor textures, character basemeshes, monsters, etc. Anyone know? Post ITT if you have a modding related question, I guess, until we get a dedicated modding subforum.
  18. I don't think the number of weapons is too low. There are 10 ranged weapon types and 17 or more different melee weapon types. More frustrating is the lack of meaningful variation. I personally don't feel like there's any difference between giving my warrior a battle axe and giving them a warhammer. I'd actually prefer if there were fewer weapon types, but more differentiation between them.
  19. I doubt this. Players would just stop killing when the pack is full, go back to sell the loot, then return to the killing spree and collect more. I personally don't see what the angst is about money in these games, as I've yet to see one that actually doesn't have you swimming in gold by the time you're mid to late level. Money, in almost all the CRPGs I can think of that I've played, has only ever been an issue (as in, not enough of it) at low levels.   20. Of the 10 ranged weapons in this game, only 1 (the war bow) would logically scale off of physical strength. Hunting bows have such low poundage that an average person could max them out no problem. However, ALL ranged weapons rely on your ability to aim your weapon which is based on... you guessed it - Coordination. A lead ball to the gut is for damn sure going to do more damage than a lead ball to the shoulder. Which stats you desire are largely going to be based on what you want your character to accomplish.
