Pre-Combat Preparation
Pre-buffing is broken and I am OVERJOYED that it is gone. I'm sure you can still prepare for combat in different ways, unless there are scripted triggers which I so resent, I don't see how you couldn't trap an area you know is filled with enemies, for instance.

Stronghold "random event" alert methods
Maybe you can instate a steward and give him some directions. "Don't bother me with small stuff" "Yes you're allowed to hire mercenaries if you expect an attack" "Show all merchants the door" "Send a messenger when xxx occurs" etc. So you can determine how much you want to micro manage. Different stewards have different strengths.

The implications of all classes being combat proficient on enemy encounters
skillpoints could still be attribute linked though. I do think someone who has an higher intellect will be able to more quickly learn skills.

I'd like the ability to make a new rpg entirely, if I wanted to, with the tools released for modding PoE.- Odd questions
too much cellulose, something very hard to digest. it's why cows have 4 stomachs.- Odd questions
While I think it's wise to have a measure of doubt, it should not be the ultimate limiting or deciding factor in your life. Taking risks is what got mankind where it is today. Find a right balance, don't be marred by inaction (apathy is death!) and don't blunder headlong into action (Not ready are you!) In the words of Obi-Wan Kenobi: "You must do what you think is right, of course."- Odd questions
Got this one. Self-awareness is mediated against self-belief made necessary by degrees of risk. An absence of self-belief produces non-actionable perception of action outcomes. Or to put it another way, its better to be a non-self-aware bloke blithely striding towards uncertainty, than a self-aware entity cowering under a dustbin lid. as Bertrand Russel said: "The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are c*cksure while the intelligent are full of doubt" and "I think we ought always to entertain our opinions with some measure of doubt. I shouldn't wish people dogmatically to believe any philosophy, not even mine." Which echoes the sentiment of the Buddha: "Do not give up your authority and follow blindly the will of others"- Odd questions
no. Black holes are dense, Absolute zero is only possible in (near) perfect vacuums. (absence of energy) Why do people lack so much self-awareness? Is it a lack of education? Is it pride? is it genetics? Are we not as sapient as we think we are? How many people are walking around with brilliant ideas in their heads, which will never see the light of day because of a lack of training or a lack of contact with people trained in the relevant field?- Movies you've seen recently
Paragraph 1: Yeah that movie ended up ****ting all over itself. I watched it in cinema with two of my friends. When the break-out near the end occured, I made a bad joke out loud (coldn't help myself) and the everyone present laughed. No-one there thought it was a particularly good movie p2: Agreed, probably because of the cleaner look. p3: You are strange! with the bulging eyes and everything? To me he always looks like what a bulldog or pug would look like if it were human. I watched The Heat. Very missable, and I'm not dirtying more words on it.- What you did today
That's because we're living in a consumer society. Ever heard of of planned obsolescence? There was this belief after the stock crash of 1929 that this was because of market saturation stopping sales. Things these days are made specifically not to last, so that there can be no market saturation, and you'll keep buying buy buy buy. This is why light bulbs have a maximum lifespan of 10.000 hours, when light bulbs made before 1930 sometimes survived for over 50 years. glad you're still with us though.- Playing other Kickstarter funded games makes me nervous
JFSOCC replied to Death Machine Miyagi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)the only crowdfunded project I've invested in that I'm worried might not deliver is Xing: the land beyond. I'm still very confident for The Mandate, Obduction, The Longest Journey Chapters, Roam, PoE, Torment:ToN (tier with Wasteland 2) and the drug rape prevention glasses that they'll deliver.- Unique Class Quests
you guys convinced me. While I still hope to see some differentiation between classes outside of combat, class quests are not the way to do it. You can have mutually exclusive paths based on many other factors.- Update #70: New Year Project Update

JFSOCC replied to Death Machine Miyagi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)fixed. Most investments fail, this is true no matter where you look. it's the few that succeed which should cover the expense for the poor investments.- Josh Sawyer on Quest Staggering and why BG2 might have had it right
- How do classes differentiate outside of combat?
Class specific quests, class specific non-combat abilities (for puzzles or dialogue, surely there will be challenges outside of combat?) Alternative routes. Class based membership of organisations/factions. Optional class-specific content within quests, organisations, or questlines. Surely there is something possible?- Josh Sawyer talks about stealth mechanics
I imagine that having a bleeding squirting wound can be quite distracting, and weakening as well. But I suppose it might be too easy for rogues to qualify for sneak attacks if every little ouchie qualifies for extra damage.- How do classes differentiate outside of combat?
Well I wasn't just talking about quests. But if outside of combat classes are interchangeable, that is a dealbreaker for me. I don't have many dealbreakers, but that will pretty much be it. If that's the case they should have had a classless system in the first place.- Unique Class Quests
I concur with this but I still don't think Class Specific quests would hurt. Obviously we all get a stronghold though so that won't be involved in this case. I enjoyed the class stronghold quests of BG2 as much as anyone, but it does make more sense to merely create quests that all classes can satisfy. I think the room for compromise lies within awarding players/characters with how they have completed a quest. A wizard using magic to solve a problem, versus a rogue's wit, or a fighter's might should yield different rewards having these choices cause a quest to branch different. This is a very simplistic example, but think of Dungeon Siege 2. There were many "secret" mini-dungeons that would contain a treasure room with locked doors. Only specific classes could unlock certain doors which held an item suitable to said class. Having a quest were a players path would diverge slightly to stumble upon a class appropriate treasure/reward would be an acceptable way to have the best of both in my mind. I disagree. I remember an interview where (I believe) Chris Avellone said you have to be OK with people not seeing all the content you created. People are going to miss things, but that's what makes it interesting to replay a game. I think it's a terrible idea that I could experience every.single.quest.in one playthrough.- Update #71: The Heavy Hitters: Rogues and Rangers
