  1. No more stretch goals? What's your reasoning behind that? I thought the polls showed most in favour. personally I don't like the Death Godlike, but it looks like I'm alone in that. And the druid cat... well, I can live with it. I guess you can't please everyone all the time.
  2. Shadowrun returns is hardly a year old. don;t you think it's too fast to judge? Either way, if your base game isn;t good, no wealth of modding tools is going to save your community. As I understand Shadowrun returns was a bit of a disappointment for many people.
  3. that might limit anything which copies unity functionality, I think, but nothing else. But that could be a reason, I guess.
  4. It ain't that bad. There were no modding tools released for the IE games either. Didn't stop modders from successfully modding the bejeebers out of ALL of them anyway. took long enough for many of them. You can't begin to count the nr of mods there are for Fallout 3/nv which has tools released. The nr of mods for the IE games are fairly limited in the years since they've been released. I'm sure "modders will find a way" but it will be at the expense of a large potential userbase who would otherwise have exercised their creativity, but now leave it to the dedicated few, willing to work with opaque tools and home-made solutions.
  5. That's a fair argument. But just look at what has come out of something like the Garden of Eden Creation Kit, or GecK. Sooooooo much content. Minimal tools, or opaque user-unfriendly tools will alienate potential new modders. People with talent and a story to tell who decide that it's just not worth getting in to. For instance, from what I understand now, it's going to be very difficult to add in new environments, which basically forces anyone to re-use what is supplied by the game.
  6. Based on the most recent interview, it's been made clear that modding tools aren't very high on the priorities list of obsisian http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-02-10-pillars-of-eternity-interview-off-cuts I was really looking forward, as a novice, to work on my own fan mods. This is to my mind terrible news. for reasons I've stated elsewhere: I can't believe I'm the only one who feels this way. So I'm hoping that with enough fan outcry maybe Obsidian will change its position on the matter. So I'm starting this thread as a petition for better modding tools for Pillars of Eternity.
  7. having read the rest of the interview. I have to say, I am EXTREMELY disappointed that there aren't going to be modding tools. Strong modding tools are what keeps a game and it's community alive LONG after other games would have been forgotten. It's why people are STILL making mods for morrowind. I think it's a collosal mistake not to release a tool for modding and editing as much as possible. I think saying that you'll release tools (maybe) for "Table-based stuff should be easily editable because it's in a text file" that's pretty much providing lip-service to editors. I think you are making a gigantic mistake by not releasing a comprehensive modding tool. Gigantic. really screw the romance news, this is what should be the controversy. Imagine how much you are going to lose out on! countless mods, encouraging new modders (potential future employees), a cap on creativity, community engagement, fan driven content. I think it's just terribly stupid.
  8. You said it. I personally don't really care that much. All evidence says we are playing a "blank slate" already (a character concept I am tired of seeing in story based RPG's) so forcing romance in there may not even work well cause face it... our character will have no real personality. There is not even an indicator that we will get to make background choices that will have minor effects on the game such as a Hill Dwarf getting treated differently from a Forest Elf etc etc. So yeah it doesn't bother me. However. If you asked me to vote in a simple poll no BS no nonsense, "Should romance options be included for the main character in Pillars of Eternity?" Yes or No, I would vote yes. While I don't particularly care and may or may not try such a thing in game many many players DO care. Alfiriel is also dead on correct. BG2 is the king of the IE games and the benchmark most backers will be looking at. BG2 had romances didn't it? In fact BG2 was the game that started the whole RPG's should probably include a romance option thing on PC. Obsidian baked it's own cake on this one I personally think they should perhaps have a slice. Meanwhile the idea that removing romance relationships from even being an option for the main character does not compute to "better and more in depth character relationships". Again, I am sorry many romance haters seem to confuse one sided NPC's and bad writing with "romance is the problem" but no.... the problem is bad writing and bad NPC's. Taking one possible relationship type totally out of the game for the main character actually eliminates an entire "character interaction" option from the game. That is the opposite of "more in depth relationships with characters." Basically this. I think romances could be done well, even if they haven't always been done well. I don't want to force romances in, and I can live without them just fine. But I imagine if you spend a lot of time with someone, you're bound to develop feelings for that person. That psychology means that romances would make sense in a group that spends an awful lot of time in very close proximity without much privacy I hope the icewind dale games aren't a bigger influence than the baldur's gate games. And you are usually so well balanced. I thought you were better than to mock those of different opinions. This is all true. And they are making the game *they* want to make neither are a lot of things that are going to make it into the game. Even if 100% of fans wanted them, I don't believe we have the time and other resources to implement them well. I am not inherently opposed to romances, but I don't want to spend time implementing something I'm not confident we will be able to execute at a high level of quality. I respect that you're making your own game, pursuing your own artistic vision. But if 100% of your fans wanted something like romances in and you wouldn't even consider it I'd consider you to be very foolish. One that note, please don't fall into the trap of making players play your story the way you want them to play rather than the one they'd like to craft for themselves. Player agency is important. That said I'm not too worried. like others have said, I'm sure that something with such a great demand will find itself modded in, one way or another.
  9. More than four actually, that's because they are all idiots who haven't been paying attention, so when it was reiterated it was news to them. The backer site had winter 2014 listed for quite a while now.
  10. But isn't that truth about racism/sexism etc in general? When it's subtle, then it (in most cases) ends up being barely recognizable and even less often called out. Don't we tend to apply those terms to those who are either fiercely defensive and proud about it, or to those who's effort to hide it are indeed "hamfisted"? I think there is a very interesting documentary for you to watch called "blue eyed" it's about a teacher teaching kids about racism through a rather intensive experiment, something which she's since also done on adults. Many adults going through it come out with a whole new realisation about racism that goes beyond what may have been obvious to them. Noticing that you are constantly subtly excluded from events, invitations, promotions, has a much more sour (and to my mind realistic) experience than "just" experiencing pejorative name calling, or violence. (especially as there will be expectation that you know how to deal with violence in project eternity) Having your Race (or your godlike heritage) be the explanation for malicious rumours, suppositions or judgement of your character goes far beyond how I've seen it displayed in games. Having constant negativity showered over you and then when you fail because of it, because of your low self esteem, your poor chances, and then having your failure explained by your race. That kind of pain, I have not seen in games. Maybe it's because it's too touchy of a subject to deal with, but since P:E is going to be a game with mature themes, I believe it could be a good addition. http://explosm.net/comics/2768/
  11. Is that a production beard? also, it seems he released a bunch of videos. let's go through them.
  12. NAME: Vasir Gelänte ROLE: Hires your party for escort/expedition. Is joinable NPC for duration of the questline KEY ITEM: A large chest instead of a backpack. APPEARANCE: Overdressed, clearly wealthy, large beard, slightly crazy eyes. Strong back and arms. FEEL: This foppish rich man clearly thinks that he can do anything he wants, maybe that's how it's been for him. He's determined to get into the wild lands of Dyrwood and collect some fine specimens to take home. And he's willing to do anything. RECRUITMENT: Found at the headquarters of the Horticulturists Vasir is prepared to pay you a very fine sum, or do a good word for you amongst his peers, if you can take him to the furthers reaches of the dyrwood, and find a living specimen of a fabled animal. He's got several animals and plants on his list to take home, though the fabled one is on the top of his list. Each specimen will require overcoming different challenges, not every specimen could make it back alive, although that is very much the intent. Vasir pays you upon your return to the Horticulturists HQ, based on what you've managed to find. Specimens go in his chest, which he assures you has been "retrofitted for biological stability" by which he might mean the air-holes and the tresh. If you do well, he may have another expedition for you when he returns.
  13. skippable intro cinematics/logos. Nothing is more annoying that having to watch the creative assembly logo/copyright claim for 30 seconds before being able to progress to loading my game, which had crashed just a minute earlier.
  14. There will always be those kinds of players trying to explore every last nook and cranny.
  15. mounts could be done well, but I can see why they aren't a priority. Maybe for an expansion. Having a stables in the major cities, and places where you can and cannot go with mounts might make them interesting. They could cut travel time and give some advantages in combat (if they're trained and/or armoured) I imagine especially in survival gameplay. For instance going through a large barren wasteland with depleting rations. You might make it through with a mount when you couldn't without one.
  16. most games do racism in a hamfisted way. No subtlety at all. I sincerely hope that won't be the case for PoE
  17. Make books valuable. This is a world without printing, after all. Books should be tremendous pieces of rare loot. I never got the 1gp books from the Baldurs Gate Series.
  18. it's not delayed, it's well on schedule. Did you really think after the game was funded for 400% that the development time was going to be equal to what was pitched at the kickstarter video. That's just very unrealistic.
  19. I see it differently. I enjoy making a distinct character, and the role-playing part for me is in dialogue and reactivity. The idea that the world is responding to me, or what my character says and does, is something I greatly enjoy. That's the premise on which I backed, btw.
  20. I thought the plot was bad, but the pacing was excellent. It was a bad movie well made, I would say, and as such I enjoyed it. The action was pretty cool, and I liked the alley shots.
  21. Happy Bday Nep! Hurlshot, that's a side of you I haven't seen before! So I got another crush... my type, both in character and looks, but she's 18 and I'm 27... So maybe not. Cute as button though. And I know and like her family as well, so meeting the parents well, maybe the age difference would be an issue. anyway...
