  1. The same can be said for those who want something that wasn't promised or part of the stretch goals and want the game delayed further when others don't want it. How very selfish that line of thinking to delay a game for something that wasn't promised nor part of the stretch goals and to inconvenience other backers who don't want it, just because some people want mod tools. And paladins were part of a stretch goal. They promised they would be in the game. Obsidian can't cut paladins. It seems odd that you would compare something Obsidian promised us, something that was part of a stretch goal to something that wasn't. Obsidian didn't promise mod tools. And did you miss the part where if Obsidian did release mod tools further down the track, I would be okay with that? Seems you did. They promised us a game, not a game with mod tools. So you use mod tools? Plenty of us wouldn't. And we shouldn't be inconvenienced with a game delayed any further because of it. crafting was a stretch goal too, didn't that get neutered?
  2. Considering I'm a backer, I wouldn't want Obsidian to spend time on making mod tools, spending time on QA, spending time on adding instructions of the mod tools to the manual and anything else that involves in time and money, if it's going to take time away from the games release. Mainly because I don't use mod tools, I don't create mods and very rarely use mods. So it really doesn't affect this backer. So it's not a question of rights for me. And as Gizmo said, It wasn't part of a stretch goal. If Obsidian decides to release mod tools down the track, I'm also fine with that. How very selfish that line of thinking is. I don't care for romances, but I certainly empathise with those who were looking forward to it. I despise paladins, I would never play them, but if they were cut I wouldn't stay silent because it didn't affect me. So you don't use mod tools? Plenty of us who would.
  3. The study didn't follow the self-professed trolls behaviour outside their behaviour on the internet, making it a very flawed study. While this behaviour maybe considered "dark tetrad" it could be anything like an outlet for real life frustration, or selective bad behaviour. To remark on behaviour and attribute it to character on so little evidence is downright bad. I'd would be good if the study had followed the trolls (and everyone else who participated) for a while longer before coming with such bold claims. Calling trolls psychopaths is just too easy, as tempting as that can be.
  4. Racism in real life is not illogical. There are plenty of reasons why people become racist. It may be wrong, but the mechanisms are fairly well understood.
  5. From here on out Kaineparker is to be known as Titus Andronicus Yeah, figured there must be some sentiment of this sort around. And god only knows approaching a subject like this could be done really badly really easily: either hamfisted writing or cowardice on the part of the developers would be more than enough to do the trick and make it all cringeworthy. When I think of PoE dealing with issues of class and institutional racism, I don't think of it being shoved down your throat ("Racism is baaaddd! Rich people are evvvillll!") so much as just being a major factor in how the world looks and how it plays. Its details of that sort which make everything feel more authentic, issues that less detailed fantasy worlds don't bother with because it forces their readers to think too much. If done well, its a step I strongly approve because, while I like killing things and taking their stuff, there are a s***ton of RPGs out there with that as their central focus and very, very few which ask players to use their brains or make value judgements that go beyond "do I kill the Evil Overlord or do I join him?" The world in BG and BG2 (or, really, let's just say the entire Forgotten Realms setting) was one which unravelled before your eyes if you thought too hard about it. You weren't supposed to think too hard about it, nor was it supposed to make any sense; you were supposed to switch off your brain and go out and kill stuff and get lots of cool new magical items. I would be happy of PoE aims a little higher than that. I've been reading a book about... well some cultural conflict, let's no go into it too deeply. But what I found most interesting is how there always has been this drive to paint the victims as pure and blameless, when it is clear that all sides are dirty. Institutional racism can of course, affect ALL species/godlike, depending on where you are in the world. I think it's unrealistic to see some group of equal rights campaigners. Slave rebellions in the ancient world didn;t end slavery, it just made the slaves take on the role of masters. The question on my mind is, is PoE's society ready for a change? or will we just have to endure it?
  6. make it interesting to end at middle management in an organisation.
  7. You don't know that. Someone might want to make a comprehensive content mod. or a full campaign. And sure, maybe they could without the tools, but those tools will cut down the time required enormously. If they created any tool specifically for use on Pillars of Eternity, I feel they should release it along with the game.
  8. That's asking for far too much. Their internal tools give them a substantial advantage over other companies (there's a reason Obsidian kicks the crap out of other companies when it comes to reactivity, and it's not just the talent of their writing staff), and would be marketable products in their own right. Public funding shouldn't mean you have to give away your kitchen sink. And they've already said they are trying to make the file types as open as possible, so that's the best they can do. They never promised to make a spiritual successor to NWN. that's old fashioned thinking. Advantage over the competition comes from writing quality dialogue, and making right decisions for balanced gameplay. It's like saying the competition can;t have pencils because that means they can;t write. it's ridiculous, the pencil doesn;t determine the quality of the writing, after all. It just makes it a lot easier to pen. Obsidian won;t give away it;s position in the market by sharing these tools, only strengthen it.
  9. As far as I'm concerned, anything that Obsidian made specifically to help building things in Pillars of Eternity should be released to the public. That includes their dialogue tool. Further more they should release a list of filetypes used, and at least make public what proprietary tools are used to build the game, so that anyone dedicated enough at least knows where to get them, or how to find something similar. Edit: anything should be editable. There should be no deliberate hiding of information behind arcane filetypes or encryption.
  10. I'd enjoy it if I could leave a legacy with my hard earned cash. Investing in projects like building a library or university, building and supplying a zoo/park, things like that I heard prestige is going to be a thing with your stronghold, I hope these things may apply there.
  11. I don't like racial modifiers, they end up being the go to for min-maxers. does a species get a +x attribute to might? all builds utilizing might will be forced to take that species. It's how you destroy choice and get your character stereotypes again something everyone wants to avoid. it's like in certain RPG's where you would be crazy to play, let's say, an Orc Wizard. taking that intelligence penalty and strength bonus effectively locks out orcs as a viable wizard race in DnD. I don't want these same things happening in Pillars of Eternity. If species are different, I want it to be through abilities, not attributes.
  12. maybe the slices are in better contact with your tongue than the outer layer of the banana would be when you chomp on it from the outside?
  13. A toxaxl, looks similar both to a lemur and to a weasel, has a prehensile tail, and is an expert at climbing trees and grasping objects. Right quick too. can be trained to sit on your shoulder and follow some commands.fairly long and thin enough to go into cramped spaces, Incontinent and unappreciated indoors because of this and its smell.
  14. what is the point of a character limit in the surveys? I mean, those who need to post these things paid what I consider to be very much for the privilege, shouldn;t they be allowed to expound at length on their ideas? you can always say it's too much in feedback. But I'm sure those who backed these tiers don't mind a little feedback back and forth. I mean, sure, you don't want people to deliver you Tolstoy, but is that what you expect?
  15. People who were happy with...say, the original NWN2 campaign romances must be setting their expectations really, really low. Do it right or don't it at all, I say. Handmaiden wasn't terrible. Visas Marr, on the other hand, made me wonder about the mental health infrastructure in a galaxy far, far away. I loved visas marr, she's my favourite romance in a game, and I'm usually not someone who cares to play out romances in games.
  16. That's not true, historically. The concept of people having basic rights, responsibilities and so on is almost eternal. Codes of laws which granted certain people, certain castes, certain individuals and so on specific rights and the like have been around for many thousands of years, as have legal codes which bound everyone in society. Often they weren't enforced, or were enforced corruptly, or the rights didn't cover the actual situation, or laws were changed to make exceptions to some people could be stolen from or the like (usually ethnic or religious minorities), but the idea that there were no legal systems with broad ideas of "human rights" in the renaissance and before is simply wrong. Here's an example from 2600 years ago: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrus_Cylinder So no, this isn't a new thing. A universal international declaration is pretty new (though still quite old), but that's not something that's really being discussed here. Further, depicting oppression and hate in a game that is meant to be fun needs to be done with care. If you make it so that, say, everyone hates elves, and thus every time an player who chose to play an elf does anything, he's faced with angry words or violence from the NPCs, he's not going to have a particularly pleasant or interesting experience, most likely. If, on the other hand, you limit that to certain individuals, or certain areas of the game, or have it more happen to NPCs of that race in front of the PC than to the PC, that's more interesting, more broadly accessible, and less likely to make the game experience unpleasant. I read that article, maybe you should read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrus_Cylinder#Scholarly_views which is part of that article. I also think it's curious that the shah of Iran talks about human rights as he was one of the most heinous violators of human rights and human dignity.
  17. I didn't like the models for the death godlike. It didn't look very innovative to me. "Oh yeah it's got a giant piece of bone coming out of it's head where there eyes should be" But I'm holding out hope that I like the visual representation of other godlike types.
  18. "Oh you want to have a special order? Well, I'll see what I can do." <player selects special order> "Why don't you come back in a week, I think your order will be done then!" How about that for higher tier sales? Likewise if you have something to sell that is expensive, you can announce your intent to sell, and the shop owner will either say it's too expensive or tell you it will be back later with your money. (And maybe some bodyguards)
  19. Maybe here. But really it's impact is still fairly niche. No I have to disagree with you. I don't want to slam the IE games, but to say they've had the same impact as the fallout series is delusional.
  20. I think what many people missed is that the IE games with their poor mood support have very few mods, and the number that it has is mostly due to the long time period that has passed. compared to the elder scrolls games, or even the last two fallout games, it's peanuts.
  21. I'd love to get some dev feedback on this. Is it true? Are licenses the limiting factor here?
