I too agree that a Buddist model makes more sense for this world given the importance. In Buddism (not an expert) its possible to be reincarnated as Gods, but not desirable as its so much harder to achieve Nirvana from a state of bliss and long life. Also in Buddism Gods are mortal, they do grow old and die, but over far, far more vast lengths of time. One of the Gods in Eternity should represent escaping the cycle of reincarnation. Also there should be a God of animals, that manifests in the form of countless unique animal spirits. I also like how Gods in Eternity can have different names and attributes depending on the worshipping culture. Maybe in some Amaua cultures Magran has a different name and is worshipped as both Goddess of fire and Volcanoes. Also how about a God/ess of BDSM that isn't evil. A Goddess of Sensation, pleasure, pain, etc, Cold, Hot,... But different from a Love Goddesses. Maybe a God of natural disasters. Even though there's no evil alignment thier needs to be a darker God for more tiefling like Godlike. Maybe a God of Sin/indulgance or Purgatory, a place that cleans out ones sins before being reincarnated.

Update #31: Enter the Story Zone
Gyor replied to Adam Brennecke's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I'm fine with this update, except they said it was going to be a lore update and it wasn't. I was actually looking a lore update, say on races, classes, places, whatever. They should have said this was game design philosphy update, because now I'm disappointed, I was lead to believe it would be lore. This is 100% lore free.- 83 replies

Inspiration for Godlike-races
Gyor replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think Nerdboner is right. Thier called Godlike, not planetouched. So I imagine that each subrace will lean towards resembling the God/dess or group of divinities that made them. So its hard to speculate on appearences until we know more about the Gods of PE. Still we know three of the Gods so far, all of which appear to be major ones. So a fire subrace like mentioned above, with war theme influencing the look. God of Life and Death is more challenging them splitting the two ideas. Perhaps they resemble the two beings in the screen shot. The God of light and Redemption, I'm thinking light and angellic subrace, most Aasmir like. Nerdboners Water God is likely too. I suspect a more animalistic God as well and a God of Knoweldge, one of love, and one of vice, amoung others. -
Forton is a Joke!
Gyor replied to Hellfell's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I agree, its starting to get creepy. Also this isn't an exact recreation of Midevil Europe, thiers alot of factors that could and would influence the type of society that is evovling. The fact is the Religion resembles Eastern Religions far more then Jedeo-Christian faith, which would natural cause more Asian like influence. As for Forton, I like him, he's like a multiclass Monk/Hippy :D Seriously aside from the Kung-Fu Forton is more like the type of guy that gets invovled in,ecstacy cults. I actually love his hair as it reinforces that he's a stoner. -
Really I was tought as a kind your safer from lightening if your touching or on top of rubber, like in a car with rubber tires. Rubber does not conduct electricity vary well.

Also non armour clothes should have advantages too for some situations, like social bonuses and disguises like in New Vegas. I also liked the 4e Avenger's armour of faith which was a class feature that acted like armour, basically like a spiritual force field protecting the character instead of armour. Priests and Monks should have some kind of Armour of Faith as an option they can invest in. I also find it interesting that he refered to the armoured wizard as a build and I'm curious as to how class builds function.

Magic, not just mundane weapons like axes, guns, bows, and swords need to be taken into account. If you get hit by a lightening bolt in plate armour the gods help your sorry arse, you'd be better off in rubber armour. Speaking of which using history as a base line is fine, but you need to take into account of factors that would change how such a society functions. Example would be what if the Dyerwood has rubber trees? extracting rubber and shaping it into say clothes and armour is well within the Midevil capablities had they rubber trees to access. Less technology advanced cultures, various tribes used rubber, the Aztec used rubber, abit not as armour to my knowledge, but still. To get rubber one taps rubber trees for a milky fluid and then do stuff like using smoke to cure it. So rubber armour might not be historic, but had rubber trees evovled in Europe it may well have been. Magical creatures has to be taken into account as well, scale armour from dragon scales, troll hide, solid energy armour made from some kind of beast made from solid fire, hide made from the skin of a giant electric eel. Plate Armour made from the metal like bones of a demon.

Update 29: Mechanics
Gyor replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Deliberate I like a good joke, but this isn't funny. -
Rereading on Lore on Necromancy and its less assumption of black and white morality. It accures to me that using Necromancy to become sentient undead is like the fantasy verison of transhumanist, transending the human condition and becoming suppior to it. I kind of like Necromancy as more then a type of magic, but almost a religion/philosphy. I think Necromancy/Transhumanism would make a really cool cause for Paladins.

I'm sure an aristocratic variation of the rats could be implemented. And I'm sure you could make a Skaven inspired race good as well. The NWOD has a autocractic rat race from India in Changing Breeds, well wererats, but still. They relate them to an Indian Goddess who favours rats. I've seen her temple on TV in RL, rats everywhere. Really cool. Still my bet is on a sharklike race.

Why? My dad was a mechanic and I've known all kinds of people who use tools for varous jobs, including myself. Do you think a professional thief/locksmith would buy cheap dollarstore grade tools that will break when used when his life could depends on success or do think he'd buy mastercraft tools, something he can consistantly rely up when ever he needs it even if it means paying more? The only time I see workmen using disposalable tools is when thier too broke to afford something proper. An amauter thief may use a bobby pin like in FONV, but a professional will have proper tools for his trade. It'd be like giving the fighter a sword that breaks each time it hit someone. An alternative would be enchanted tools just like you have enchanted weapons and grimoires. So an enchanted +5 lockpicket set that boosts the mechanics skills when lockpicking by 5 to 10 points. It cost more then cheap lock picking tools, but its reliable and reusable.

Grimoire Speculation and Ideas
Gyor replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
The swapping refers to the fact that you can only use one at a time, if you want to use another you have to swap that one out to activate another, but you probably have as many as you want, just only one activate at a time. -
Picture it like say I have 15 stamina and 30 health left and this an enemy fighter hits me with his sword for 15 stamina and 3 health. He just stabbed me in the hip, no major viens get cut, but the pain and blood loss is enough to send me into shock, I drop unconcious. Now if some heals me Stamina enough for me to get back up and I take some more blows and my health hits zero, even if I still have stamina left then my head just got cut off or in the case of the maimed condition my arm is nearly severed.

I disagree, I think talking grimoires could be cool, whisphering dark tempations, but for a price. -
Grimoire Speculation and Ideas
Gyor replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Agree, Grimoire's would be like a fighters weapons to a wizard. I wonder what magic item Ciphers will focus thier powers on, crystals? Holy Symbols appear to be that thing for Clerics and maybe some Paladins. Monks and Prayer beads? Tattoos? -
Druid Class
Gyor replied to AndreyPlatonov's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I kind of like Urban Druids like they got in PF. -
Unless Obsidian has the manpower to fend off a Jihad from the extremist I would recommend they stay way from Muslim imagery. RPGs having using the word Dervish and Jinn and other stuff inspired by Islamic culture for ages now. Just stay away from making thier Prophet and they'll be fine. I do like that thier looking away from kung fu mivie for inspiration and remembering that the kung fu stuff is just for self defence, its not the classes focus or main goal. Feel free to take from the wider realm of monastic tradition. It'll still have kung fu though, you need the kung fu.

Druid Class
Gyor replied to AndreyPlatonov's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I think the interesting question becomes how do Druidic magic interact with souls. I can see at least three ways of doing this. One they draw power not only from thier own soul, but also the Soul of the world. Two maybe the draw power from the baser more primal instinctive animalistic part thier soul. Three they summon the souls of animals into themselves to shapeshift. Or any mix of the above. -
its not ironman, it set on EASY. This feature should NOT be in easy mode. You can start the game on easy and select ironman mode. ironman=save&exit ONLY Let me guess, you couldn't decipher how to start a new game and someone else configured it for you. I don't even.... Emotionally drained you said? Excuse me, but I am glad PE its not forced to cater your needs as a gamer. Wow are you rude, PE isn't just for hard core gamers so cut the arrogent attidude. Its for people of varying abilities, people who also donated. Thankfully for those of us looking for fun instead of frustration there different modes, base line is maimed instead of permadeath, plus you can save when you wish. The hard stuff like ironman and the other two modes is optional.

Please no more "go here" quest markers!
Gyor replied to Cultist's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
That'd be me :D honestly I don't mind some exploration, as long as I'm not lost or frustrate trying to find something or running around like a chicken with its head cut off. -
D&D Bestiary?
Gyor replied to jivex5k's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I wouldn't mind journal enteries for each monster like in Planescape Torment. -

There's a mode to shut stuff like that off, personally I want things like Quest Markers I hate running around in circles looking for stuff, not fun like they have in Fallout New Vegas and stuff.
