Gimme your best and gimme your worst!
IndiraLightfoot replied to Cdiaz's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
In Deadfire, I have yet to switch to a grimoire. As wizards are right now, more grimoires almost feels like mockery. They should come with titles like The book of Irony Vol. III, The Tome of Indifference, The Folio of Listlessness. "Oh, yet more slow spells at my disposal, incantations that rarely hit home anyways. Gosh, thanks a bunch..." *The very same evening, behind the camp, grimoire pages were diligently used when Mother Nature called." -

These bad points, I agree with heaps and heaps! -
Gimme your best and gimme your worst!
IndiraLightfoot replied to Cdiaz's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Another bad: Alright, I haven't seen this mentioned by anyone, so this may come out a bit leftfield: I have a bit of a hard time finding and using the talents of each character in my party that I select. What I'd love to see is some quickbar รก la NWN2, where I can place any talents or skills or whatever I use often. Then I always have the most frequently used stuff at my finger tips as I select a specific character. -

I agree with everything above, and I've added some of my own pet peeves and praises. -

Josh said that he's playing the game at home. He has played the game for 60h, and he says that corresponds to like half the content! And this is the maker of the game talking! YAY!!! -
I'm so torn on this. I mean, I can get really salty if some random roll doesn't go my way in a CRPG or in any game, and in these moments I feel that I just hate such systems, really, but at the same time, such games are usually the ones I love the most. I fear that my PnP background has a firm grip on me still, and as such I actually prefer it the way JFutral describes it. I disregard the argument about save scumming, since that is still an issue in both CRPG systems. For instance, in Wasteland 2, I recall several moments when I was like walking on broken glass, watching two or three improbable rolls go the way of my party, and I just love those moments. I find other systems a bit too stiff and inflexible - since in my weird head, these probabilities and percentage rolls, heighten my sense of each playthrough, and of each encounter, being a bit more unique and intense. Old-fashioned and slightly nutty, but it gets my juices flowing. Sorry...

The Level Cap Question

In PoE2, you'll start over at lvl 1, while still keeping your character, coz a god messed with your very being. -
[Spoilers] A Look At : Enchantments & High Level Spells
IndiraLightfoot replied to DexGames's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Two alternatives here: 1) Either make scroll casting considerably slower, and of course slower than casting this kind of spells. 2) Or make the spell casting at least a bit faster than these scrolls. I hope and pray that Obsidian will pick alternative 2. *Fingers crossed* Yes, pretty please, let my prayers to the Obsidian gods be heard.- 18 replies

Heh, nor do I. Consumables overall tend to lie in my invos unconsumed. The reason why these long casting times don't work is that even with these slower beta patch 3 melee attacks, you are lucky if you get to throw two or three slow spells from one character during an encounter, and then you have to make sure that the spells penetrate too. In most CRPGs I can think of, I never had any big concern about spells not having enough time and impact during combat. I just played my mage, priest or druid and had a jolly good time, and here, it feels like my casters have one armed tied behind their backs all the time. And these are somatic-dependent magic users, mind you! (This sentence is just me kidding, but the rest holds pretty much true for Deadfire right now.)

[Bug] Cannot turn off weapon modal
IndiraLightfoot replied to dunehunter's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
IIRC, this bug with modals (at least for some of the modals, perhaps all?) has been present in beta patch 1 and 2 as well. It's a pretty bad bug too. -
I do this tongue in cheek, but I simply must put this down as being severely bugged: Two alternatives here: 1) Either make scroll casting considerably slower, and of course slower than casting this kind of spells. 2) Or make the spell casting at least a bit faster than these scrolls. I hope and pray that Obsidian will pick alternative 2.

Small wounding DoT overwrite big ones

Nah, that isn't right. Very nice find! -
I hate it when there's some timer stressing me when playing a RPG. Like the devour function in NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer. So please keep these ship functions slowly paced. My dream RPG doesn't really consist of me scrounging for rice for some deckhand. Once, usually when you comfortable with a system, you're ready to handicap yourself, as it were. Perhaps some of this more "hardcore" stuff would be great for a toggle == Salty Dog Mode, with an achievement and all, for really avoiding scurvy and what not.
