Welcome to the Deadfire. Backer Beta!
IndiraLightfoot replied to Sking's topic in Backer Beta Announcements
You should've been more optimistic this time, since the release was just announced: April 3 2018. -
I went cellar diving today, in the hunt of some really old RAW format images. First, I found my old Toshiba laptop (20 years old, almost to this day). And it woke up after all this time, without a cord and a transformer, but it shut down within a minute. I dove into my cellar again, and after half an hour of rummaging, I did find the cord+transformer. And lo and behold, screen and everything works. Windows 98 and Word 97, the screen, the touchpad, everything worked like a charm. I wonder how long these little buggers can survive! EDIT: And yeah, I found the photos too, plus some old ones I had forgotten. EDIT 2: Weird cellar facts: Pretty damp, semi dirt-floor in places. The laptop itself was in a cardboard box with some old books and cords and stuff. This box stood 1 m from the boiler, and just 2 from a frequently used wood burner (up until like 3 yrs ago). It smelled a bit of soot, iron, and dust. The temperature there over the years must have varied between 50 degrees Celsius to 5 degrees in a few odd days (when we were away during the winter). Ideal for a laptop, huh? EDIT3: I love how internet-free it is. No required online bullsh*t, and everything's just plug and play. EDIT4: This laptop is older than quite a number of those that visit these forums and play the Obsidian games.

w6Pd2u was more or less crystal clear. But the other code may perhaps be read as 2tP6nW. "n" upside down, and mirrored becomes "u". That leaves "d" in the first code and "t" in the second as unique. Otherwise: BtP6nW. Beta test Patch 6 next Week (or rather Wednesday, given capital W)? That means next beta patch Wed Jan 31 2018. And if you reshuffle w6Pd2u, you'd get update on week 6, day 2, that is Tuesday Feb 6 2018.

@LadyCrimson: You nailed it! If I was to give a serious reply, I'd loved to have composed yours.

Welcome to the Deadfire. Backer Beta!

You know that feeling kids have when waiting for X-Mas? Each day feels like a year, time feels like a divine punishment. Well, that's nothing compared to what I feel these days waiting for Deadfire beta updates, and of course, the mother of all Christmas presents, the finished game itself. -
Aha! SOON in caps. It must be a secret abbreviation, telling us that they're just working on the resting system, then the game's finished: Sleep Often Or Not.

Overland MAP - Can we have a day\night cycle there?
IndiraLightfoot replied to Mazisky's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
You're right, guys. In the beta, I've myself come across bugs that show that the overland map is literally just an overlay. Underneath it, an area is already loaded, and your characters are there in the background, the same goes for scripted interactions. Most of the tech is already implemented, so I say go for it! -
Overland MAP - Can we have a day\night cycle there?

It would certainly enhance the exploration mood, but I suspect it's a bit too much work so close to release. Perhaps in a later major patch or expansion? Civ 6 did this really nice, for instance. -
It sure sounds perfectly reasonable. Versus Evil is a US-based publisher, and THQ Nordic is located in Vienna, Austria (a perfect central location in Europe, close to other major cities like Budapest, Munich, Milan, Prag, Zagreb, Warzaw, Belgrade, Bern, Berlin, Lyon - heck, even Bucharest, Sofia, Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, and Kiev).

Refunded my Deadfire pledge, here's why...

I love this idea, and I really hope they make it a reality with the next PoE1, whenever it's coming. -
Should multi-classing be more limited?
IndiraLightfoot replied to KDubya's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Instinctively, I must agree with this post, since multi-classing should be fun and creative and all that jazz. If we were to impose special passive ability penalties for multi-classed characters, it would just be a contrived downer, methinks. But Reanvan is still right about some toning down too, for key passives, but very slight toning, please. This is a single player game. It should be fun, remember? -

Yes, that goes without saying. Your company has to get the priorities straight. Hence, my 2.5 yrs remark, I should have added "sometime along the road". -

In one way I'm luckily resilient as far as corrupt saves go. In CRPGs, I almost always let go of playthroughs of 10, 30 or even more hours into the game, just because I got tired of it, I forgot about it for a while, or I just stumbled on some bad bug, and then I feel like making another kind of character/party. I start out as a completionist, but soon become the master of near misses and good efforts, but not quites. And still, that's an aspect of gaming I enjoy so much that it has kept me going for decades. I was actually doing more or less the same thing with PnP gaming, regardless if I was a GM or not. -

Skyrim Special Edition was released 5 yrs after the game was originally released Nov 11 2011. PoE1 came out March 26 2015, and the Definitive Ed was unleashed upon the world Nov 2017, Obsidian's team being a fraction of Bethesda's. I reckon it's only fair to give Obsidian at least 2.5 yrs more, and then we can begin to compare the bugginess. With the release of Deadfire, I'm sure PoE1, and especially the expansions content, will get a few more patches. I've played Skyrim for like 170h over several years, and pretty bad bugs have been squashed, but new ones cropped up when I bought the expansions. Still, I just roll with the punches, and then usually start over...
