Congratulations on a successful launch Obsidian! The game is having a great reception, so far. I will reserve my final opinion for after I finish it, but so far it feels very solid. We'll see, it might even exceed my expectations. Anyway, the incline is real!

Official Keys Thread v 1.01
norolim replied to VladWorks's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
OK. I pledged for the $65 boxed edition. Which digital edition am I supposed to get with that? I got Champion, but my Order Summary says I should be getting digital items from the Royal Edition. How does it work? -
Update #52: Monk!
norolim replied to Darren Monahan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Ohhh...I don't really like this update. The monk is just...I just get the impression that someone (Sawyer?) was trying to be too clever. For me the way the monk works is completely unintuitive. Why would you get stronger when you're getting your ass kicked? Is this some kind of magic? It's not clear. Unless, of course the monk should actually be called the masochist...you know, thriving and at his/her best when in a lot of pain... Now, I admit the concept is interesting and will add (superfluous in this regard?) sophistication to the combat system, but at the same time it feels very unnatural. For me, at least. The Culture Concept is OK. I also noticed it reflects the currently popular view that women have no breasts (beacuse if they did, it would be sexist). Good job.- 242 replies

Update #46: How (Proto-)Typical
norolim replied to The Guildmaster's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Oh come on! What's with the tease at the beginning? I was expecting to see the scene animated before the end of this update. Grrr, i feel tricked And then you announce that future updates will be less regular and give us a dungoun concept art that is only slightly bigger than a thumbnail...not the greatest of updates. I appreciate the insight into the production stages, though. You new to the Internet? Jobs- 98 replies

This is an excellent update! I always play melee characters in RPGs, so this particular mechanic I welcome with open arms. Perhaps it will even make sense to make an all melee party now...exciting :] I wonder (as do some other backers) how this will work with long range pole weapons, e.g. a glaive. Any thoughts on that Josh?

Update #31: Enter the Story Zone
norolim replied to Adam Brennecke's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Nice update, again. And i don't mind it being a bit vague. What I get from those frequent updatres is that Obsidian just want to stay in touch with us, give us something to think about and comment on. Good stuff.- 83 replies

And they say it's difficult to learn languages. Three languages - three almost identical phrases: Projekt Wieczność -
So, it's begin as Skyrim's forums... The kind of phobia you have is insignificant. It's just one of many phobias and one of milions of individual requests the players may have. It's not possible for the devs to tailor the game to everyones needs and wishes. If they did this for you, they would suddenly face players requesting thousands of things for religious, cultural, moral and other valid reasons. As a result they'd never make a game. I'm sorry for you phobia mate, but please don't expect the game to be made specifically for you (and perhaps 20 other people, cause I don't think there would be more than 20 people suffering from such a severe case of arachnophobia interested in this game).

Giving this IP away to a publisher would be a disaster. Publishers won't let Obsidian retain control. Thet don't work like that. Those of you, who are hoping that maybe the sequel could be done with a publisher that doesn't mingle too much are forgeting why publishers exist. They exist for the sole purpose of making money. They don't care about funding a sophisticated game with deep story and tactical combat. It doesn't even have to be a good game. What's important is that it sells. And so they are ready and will do everything to make it sell, even if it means turning PE 2 into a f2p MMO first person tower defense shooter with RPG and RTS elements, that has cover mechanics, zombies, an auction house and Sonic as the central character...If that's what the charts say will sell, they will force Obsidian to make a game like this. And no, publishers will not agree to fund PE 2 and leave full control over the development and release date in the hands of Obsidian, just because PE did well. Why would they risk their money in something they have no control over. There are tones of other franchises they can exploit with much less risk. So, guys, let's stay real. If publishers are involved PE 2 won't be the game we'd like it to be. Not even close. No. That would be to much of a jump. I used the above hyperbole to strengthen the effect, but realistically speaking, I think EA would turn PE 2 into another Diablo III.

Living world?
norolim replied to jerf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This thread reads like a broken record. People just read the title, the last post and write what they think. The result: same things are repeated every 3 posts. Read the topic, people. It's not that long. I mentioned on the previous page that both the Witcher games have a living world and they are not sandboxes, and 3 post below moridin84 said that "living worlds" are generally sandbox games
