Living world?
norolim replied to jerf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Both the Witcher games aren't Elder Scrolls either. Nor are they sandboxes. And both have one of the best living, breathing worlds I've seen in RPGs. -
Well, of course pointing out that you are older as an argument in a discussion is just...well...childish. But I don't think chisled2bone meant it in that way. I think he just noticed that the way many forum members express their thoughts in the posts is different than what would normally be typical for very young people. And I don't mean typical in a bad way (as in "this is so typical")
-
You know, I agree and disagree with you on some points. But, that post is hypocritical, sorry. You imply that the way you think makes you somewhat *older*. Said in another way *superior*. That's the kind of attidude that's part of the problem. I think he meant it as "older emotionally and in terms of experience". And that is true. When people with a baggage of emotions and experience speak, it simply shows. They form their thoughts in a different way, than someone with less experience. Does it make them superior. No, not in a sense of their value as a human being. But knowledge, experience and emotional maturity are valuable assets. And they come with age.

But I'm afraid you demonstrated nothing. How does Obsidian asking for opinions make an opinion invalid? "let Obsidian make the game they want" is a perfect response to Obsidian asking about opinions. It means "I trust you and believe that the game will be better if you develop it the way you indended." Furthermore, why would saying "let Obsidian make the game they want" automatically mean that you don't want someone to "talk about a given feature?". If I say it, I don't mind that the discussion continues after that. I stated my opinion. That's all I wanted to do.

The problem is that "let Obsidian make the game they want!" is also an opinion. Someone may honestly believe, that the game will be the best it can be if backers let Obsidian do the game they intend to do. Otheres may disagree, but it doesn't make that opinion any less valid. It's the point a discussion. To present and support various ideas related to a subject. The OP didn't say anything about aggressive replies.

I love BG and I love PST. I don't care about labels like "Biodrone". What do I think about Bioware? I think it was a great company that developed some of the best RPGs of all time. Yes, was. Because for me, that studio seized to exist in 2007. Games published after that date, including the final version of DA: O (so different from what the old Bioware was working on initially), were developed by EAware.

Translations
norolim replied to jerf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Correct. That's why the Polish ans Rusians stopped voting a long time ago, and why Italians are now no. one. Before this was announced the results of the poll were 1. Poland, 2. Russia 3. Italy. Whis of course doesn't mean that PE shouldn't be translated to Italian. But I'm pretty confident that it will eventually. So, keep up your support for that, but please do it in well mannered way. Ha! I'm afraid $1000 is a bit too little to fund a professional translation of the amount of text this game is going to have. For that money you could possibly convince an amateur to attempt a translation (mind you attempt not do) and the result would almost certainly be disastrous. So, no. You don't want a $1000 translation of Eternity. I'd say a $10 000 budget would be a minimum. Oh, and it's CD Projekt RED -
The stream was a social occasion, a party, not an official a coronation ceremony. A goofy tone of comments was perfectly acceptable. I didn't follow the chat that much, but if indeed there were those who went too far with their comments, they should be ashamed. However, I don't see a reason to be a stiff and condemn the silly, yet harmless behaviour of most participants. It's called having fun. I didn't see anyone offended by the comments and the ladies were just having fun as everyone around them and actually seemed to have enjoyed the sudden outburst of popularity. So again, i think, apart from those occasions were the comments were really out of place, I see no need for moralizing.

You are right. Sorry. Of course, you have the right to satisfy your curiosity. -
The Scaling Poll!
norolim replied to Gyrotica's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
What;s the point of this? They already stated multiple times, that there will be next to no level scaling. Honestly. Let this campaign finish already. This is beginning to look like a mass hysteria. -

You are beginning to get hysterical people. What's next? Will you start worrying that Obsidian will sell our souls to EA? Calm down, please. -
XP is not tied to killing stuff but fighting it. You learn new things, you get more experienced when you overcome significant challenges. That's why, I think there should be next to no or no XP for enemies that don't constitute a challenge. But the fact that the party learned new tactics and gained valuable combat expereince while fighting the dragon should be represented in some way by the game's mechanics. Also, I said I don't mind the idea of objective oriented XP, not that I don't care about it. I just added I think there is a better solution. This could work, but then isn't the result the same as if the game just awarded reasonable amont of XP for epic enemies? The only substantial difference would be that what you suggest would require much more work from the devs. As I said: reasonable XP only for epic enemies, very little for standard, e.g 5 XP, when you need 5000 to level up, for an Orc of the same or higher level than the party average and no XP for insignificant foes. No, you are wrong. The situation here is that I don't want to do all those quests. I just want to kill the dragon to practice my skills and gain valuable combat experience...or because I'm just an evil motherf***er.
