After this post from Obsidian on the Kickstarter page: it's almost certain that Cenega/1C are handling Polish and Russian translations. Oh man...now we're screwed. And we ourselves asked for it. I sincerely hope that at least the GOG version will be in English and untouched by Cenega/1C. -

Update 2 is thather interesting. It's a real shame they didn't have it ready at project start. Hopefully the update will do the job, because if pledges don't pick up drastically, even one game won't become a reality. Not my kind of old-school RPG, but of course I hope they make it. -

Actually, I didn't see anything in Kickstarter Terms of Use and Guidlines that would restrict EA from starting their own project. Not the point though, 'cause I used EA and Dragon Age there as a joke and an example meant to illustrate the problem. -

Hmm...you see they are all developers. They know one another and often know what other studios or groups are planning. It just occured to me that maybe they decided to start their Kickstarter now, because they know someone else, someone big is going to start their campaign in 2 weeks. Line, I don't know, EA will try to pitch Dragon Age 3 (an old-school platformer platformer RPG similar to Sonic). -

What do you mean by that? Do you mean that they used black leters on a white background and pictures, same as PE? -

You might have missed the news, but Obsidian already decided on Polish and Russian translations. They will be done by distributors in Poland and Russia. Although Obsidian didn't mention any companies, we have reasons to believe that we know who they are and fear that quality will be an issue. As far as length restrictions are concerned...nothing unusual, really. It's just a skill you need to have, if you want to do your job well. I wouldn't say it significantly effects translation efficiency. -

100K in a day is very little. The amount pledged will not increase at a constant rate. As a matter of fact the rate already almost halved. The initial trend for Old School RPG was just over 3.5M (mind you, trend not a projection). Do you know what was PE's initial trend? 23.5M. So, as I said, it is unfortunate, but if they don't do sth drastic, they may miss their goal. They must have added that later, 'cause I was looking for that info after the campaign start and I couldn't find it anywhere. Altrnaively, I went blind for half an hour and missed it -

I'm affraid they won't make it. The trend is very low and dropping fast -
Hardcore Mode Options
norolim replied to Volourn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Now, I think, you are mistaking realistic with real. Magic is perfectly realistic in a fantasy world, as long as the world is believable. We should not be using the real life definitions to talk about magic in a fantasy setting. You are right though. Magic that can resurrect should be able to heal completely. In that case stron healing spells should be high level and could for example require additional sacrifice from the caster, like XP. -
The Monk Class
norolim replied to Aedelric's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Well, if it was not indicated that then your suggestion was effectively to include the stereotype Asian kung-fu monk, with more weapons. That does not really change anything. There seems to be something wrong with your discussion skills. Why do you keep assuming people mean things you fear they may mean, when you have no basis for that? Try and be a bit more open-minded. A monk in PE doesn't have to be a buddhist. He doesn't even have to live in a monastery. The PE monk may e.g. be a follower of the god of war (if one exists in teh realm), live in a town and demonstrate his faith by by perfecting his body and soul. He could even have a profession: he could be an assassin or a simple bodyguard. -
Hardcore Mode Options
norolim replied to Volourn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
The difference between magic and traditional healing is that magic heals instantly while traditional over a longer period of time. The drawback of using magic is that it can only heal to an extent. Wouldn't make much sense, if we wanted to build a realistic system were you can just use a strong enough healing spell to heal completely in a second. -

Let me quote myself from an old topic: -
The Monk Class
norolim replied to Aedelric's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
An idea: what if Monks were MMA fighters. Well, not literally. They could be people that devote their life to achieving a harmony of body and soul through martial arts. But not just a single style. They would strive to be universal fighters and therefore would study grappling and striking techniques with equal devotion. This way they could realy be master fighters as there would be no way to penetrate their defense. And the devs would avoid stereotypes. -
A fantastic update. The flexible class builds, Polish and Russian translations and especially the Adventurer's Hall...good job. As some before me, however, I'd like to ask about the distributors of the Polish and Russian versions. Could you tell as who they are, or is it too early? The thing is that if you picked Cenega/1C there might be problems with quality.

The only two games the studio developed (according to their website) is a Facebook and a Google+ exclusive. Hmm...You think they are pitching a Facebook game? But seriously, I honestly have no idea what to expect from them. And looking at the Kickstarter comments, even the backers are puzzled. I fear they may have a problem with reaching the 1.0M goal, if they don't reveal more details. -

True. inXile must be counted in as the initiators, but it takes more than one to start a renaissance. As far as Double Fine? Although Tim deserves great credit, I was talking about the revival of the traditional RPG, not niche games as a whole. -

Yes. The problem is that I don't even know what kind of old school RPG it is going to be. Wizardry style? Anachronox? Baldur's Gate? Or maybe Rogue? I'm on the fence with this one, I must admit. -
[Merged] Cooldowns 2.0
norolim replied to Grimlorn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
No. It has camping mechanics. And since Eschalon has mana, resting let's you recover it faster (real-time faster). You can't rest spam though because the game has hunger and thirst and you usually need to eat and drink after you take a longer rest. You can't take unlimited amount of supplies, because they have their weight and you have your limits. It's a well balanced system. -

OK. For fear that the mods might misunderstand and close this valued topic, this is the last one from me (I'll let you have the last word): We will. Definitely before you learn to make movies that make sense.
