  1. Did people seriously start playing this game on release day expecting it'd be free of any significant bugs? That there would be major bugs, that I might get hit with them, and that Obsidian would get to work on fixing them quickly were all things I took as given, what with the size and complexity of the game; it was inevitable, even if they'd spent years doing QA. All have turned out to be the case, and consequently I'm pretty relaxed about having to put my game aside until my PC's stats are back to normal. (Amusingly enough, the last game I played that was bug-free for me at release was New Vegas.)
  2. I absolutely despise checkpoint-based saving systems; people do not always have the time to play to the next checkpoint, and games shouldn't be enforcing that you have to spend x amount of time playing before you're allowed to quit without losing your progress.
  3. Apart from anything else, buddy, I encourage you to save more frequently!
  4. Yep, the devs are aware of this bug and working on it http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72643-quest-bugged-at-all-cost
  5. Yeah, we've got a lot of people here asking why people would want to take out the swearing so their kids could play - nobody's actually said that's what they want to do, I just put in a warning that it wouldn't really help for any parents who come by trying to figure out if this game is/can be appropriate for their kids and stumble across the thread.
  6. You know that people have used this very rationale as justification for murdering trans people, yes?
  7. No, it's an implication. Something like... you know what, I'll look it up. Here's the link; the backer message is in the first post: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/73243-memorials-problem/ Yeah, that's.... that's bad. No idea how that got through. My only thought is that it's not explicitly trans-phobic. It's sad that someone paid $1k to write that. Josh Sawyer responded on Twitter that he'd talk to people about it, and commented that it's hard to check everything, so at the very least it seems it could have been originally unintentional to let it in the game. Where it will go from here, of course, is something else.
  8. Yeah, I'm not sure these two threads really belong together.

  10. Honestly, after following much of the thread in question, I have no clue which way you mean that.
  11. So something did happen. Okay. And just not talking about this kind of stuff is never the answer. But can someone fill me in? One of the backer messages is a joke about some dude who sleeps with someone he thinks is a woman who turns out to be a man, and then goes and kills himself from shame. Some trans people found this upsetting and asked that it be removed. Other people found them expressing the fact that they were upset by this (and the removal request) upsetting.
  12. Yeah, I don't see this actually happening, but I do want to give feedback that I think it'd be better next time around if they said that any names would be modified to fit the setting.
  13. True, but that legal entity is just a human, intangible construct. It doesn't make bad games. People do. And unless they're a hivemind, it's about 5% people making decisions, and 95% people just doing their jobs according to those decisions. I can't really think of anyone who actually hates the entire chunk of people that is EA, despite what people might say. "Nuh uh, I really do!". Nope. The only way the statement doesn't work is if you insist on conflating EA with its employees. EA - any company - is more than simply the people working for it. It's the philosophy, the business practices, the history, etc.
  14. Check C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity
  15. I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure it's all static.
  16. I'll note that we had some trouble initially with getting the game (most of my games, in fact) to show up at all, for the install, and again just now when checking it was working; maybe something's up with Steam at present?
  17. It's not as simple as "don't click on them" though; some of the names simply do not fit the setting, and that's not something you can avoid seeing.
  18. Give me a second and I'll check. eta: yup, works fine over here
  19. Nobody hates EA. People hate many of the decisions that key members of EA have made, and maybe the fact that they're often more worried about shareholders than they are about creativity and game design potential. I don't hate the guy who sat at a desk for 11 hours a day texturing character models to make a living for his family. No, pretty sure I hate EA.
  20. Can't we all just agree we hate EA instead? That's a good compromise, right?
  21. The only bug I've had beyond one rather amusing episode where my companion started apparently trying to pistol-whip people to death in the middle of the fight was the Drinking Horn of Moderation sending my PC's intellect to 34 before I noticed. I think rather more people are affected by the companion stat increase bug than have actually noticed they are.
  22. How long is "eternally" updating? Do you have a progress bar or eta on the download page?
