  1. About the Paradox thing... Will POE be regionally priced due to retail pricing for different markets? I ask mainly because there has been controversy about this recently on gog and you guys should avoid bad headlines and unfair pricing if possible.
  2. I like the Dimensional Shift spell and can see many uses for it, as well as the missile family of spells. I would like to know more about the crowd control spell effects.
  3. I notice some sweet new features. Most probably the version of unity you are using for POE is locked at this stage, but maybe you will use it for a sequel or next kickstarter?
  4. How many times have I come back to an rpg and forgotten where I was at? What I would like is that when you load a game there could be a text summary of the events you have most recently completed in the form of a story blurb as well as a brief outline of the quest I am currently engaged in. A sort of 'previously on "insert tv show here" ' except all text rather than video because budget etc.
  5. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/03/04/wot-i-think-south-park-the-stick-of-truth/ They liked the game but poor tutorial and pc options are noted. It is a shame that the pc crowd gets snubbed again. Key-bindings and controller/keyboard choice are just basics, but I guess that quality control is money Ubisoft are not willing to spend. Mind you this could just be poor design choices on Obsidian's part.
  6. To me characters should have things going on and a certain amount of history that lends them a certain amount of depth. You shouldn't know everything there is about them straight away. Also they should have likeable qualities even if they are largely douchey characters. It is unbelievable to me that anyone would want to be around a character who was purely self-centered obnoxious and unpleasant unless they are downtrodden in some way. You should be able to empathise with characters you travel with but not just in a serious way; That includes silly and zany expressions that are in keeping with that character because we all have lighter moments even among the darkness. Progressing through a characters conversation tree shouldn't be possible on the first try but should be progressively opened up as you journey together or even journey apart. Not all conversations you have with a character should be player character initiated and should be triggered by character priorities and geography as well as other members of your party and their points of conflict or mutual interest. As for the undead... I like the lore on the undead. I have a lore question for the developers . Q: Would it be possible for animancers to create an undead army that way or are all undead independent agents by definition?
  7. @OP Social appearance *PoE text choices manage to broaden the potential role-playing your character/party can do for little animation cost. (because just a picture and not shown but described) In the case of dressing up for the kings ball the player would be presented choices on what he/she wishes to do there based on player skills ie - social appearance, a silly example The text sets the scene that you have infiltrated the kings ball... dexterity ~ swipe the kings liquor and poison it strength ~ intimidate a servant into giving you more wine persuasiveness ~ convince the king that one of his nobles is there to assassinate him. In terms of dramatic choice and true crossroads Well there are bound to be forks in the road and this text style of rpg certainly allows for more fleshed out content. Not sure how consequential your choices will be to the end result but I do hear that Obsidian are planning on having fallout style multiple endings so there's hope I'd say. Investments and trade I hear a certain player stronghold holds many possibilities for collecting taxes, political disputes and probably trade routes from merchants who are drawn there. *What matters in terms of features is that they are implemented well. Any idea has potential but you have to prioritize features in terms of time and budget.
  8. I don't think politics will be central to POE like it is to GOT but it will certainly be a theme and rightfully so. "It's basically a medieval game of today politics" You do know that back-stabbing politics is far from new to this century right? Check this guy out... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niccol%C3%B2_Machiavelli You could even say he was present during a golden age of discovery called the Renaissance. What Machiavelli did was refine what had been going on politically for centuries into an art-form. But don't worry I'm sure POE will mainly be focusing on an adventuring party and its adventures.
  9. Cyberpunk does seem like the next big thing doesn't it. Judge Dredd maybe could be a thing, I really liked the recent movie. I would love to see an HG wells Time-Machine rpg and I imagine Obsidian as the only ones able to pull it off with the correct amount of story development. Just imagine meeting an npc in one time setting and then see the ripple events on their descendents in the future then changing the past again until paradox and the universe explodes (although the damage might be limited to only our galaxy!)
  10. My impressions ============ -Nice to see some new tree models. -I wonder if we will see birds flying overhead like in the IE games. -Cool stones on those ruins and I even like the cliff face. -Rogues attack like cowards basically and are no good in a straight fight ~ makes sense -Rangers with an animal companion sounds cool. I wonder what animals we will get. (Please let there be dire wolves and hawks.) -Will survivor skills translate into ability to find interesting herbs and salves from nature? P.S I would like to see wizards next.
  11. @teknoman2 I was hoping for more in-game than scripted but still cool.
  12. These stealth mechanics sound awesome! So much potential for an all rogue party to cause mayhem. Much better than what they had in bg2 (it was still fun though) All this talk of commando's, being one of my favourite games, makes me wonder what else they could add from that venerable series. Some things off the top of my head that would be cool. -Please let us use our pet as a distraction. -I do hope for the ability to utilise disguises. -Seduction as distraction -Stuffing bodies in barrels/hiding in barrels -Climbing up walls -swimming in rivers to access better entry points etc Probably not for this game but maybe something to consider for the sequel (rogue high-level abilities). Think I'm going to go play commando's now.
  13. I'm not concerned for this project for a number of reasons. Strengths -The experience of the people involved in making precisely these type of games. -The harsh lessons of game development that have been learnt (I hope) over the last 10 years of Obsidian's existence. i.e. get the game play experience down pat before designing other systems ~ looking at you Alpha Protocol. -They know how to budget and keep a studio together during tough times. -Relating to the point above they know how to make fun isometric RTWP combat if Icewind Dale is anything to go by. -Writing and story development are always good to great. -Obsidian produces excellent isometric art. Just look at Icewind Dale. -The frequent communication from the project lead who seems to have a clear vision for the project. -This is their baby. They want to make it excellent as there reputation is on the line. Not to mention the prospects of making additional games of this type. Weaknesses -Reputation for buggy games; this has not been a problem for me since nwn2 although I'm sure others have experienced a range of issues given rep. -Story tends to take precedence over gameplay far too often. -The characters they make are sometimes too serious and thought-provoking to the point of melancholy. Sometimes it's good to have a few characters you can relate too that aren't narrative exposition vehicles and can lighten the mood. I guess they try to do that but largely fail in my opinion. Prove me wrong Obsidian.
  14. @SirAcid Welcome to the forums. Where parades of happy elves regularly sing songs and roast marshmallows.
  15. @Plutone00 Yeah I agree, except I wanted to learn about the lore so being required to wasn't a concern for me. I'm only advocating the world map for Eternity not the other mechanics of Banner Saga, and certainly not as a replacement for other lore features that could be in Eternity. I think of the Banner Saga type map more as an interesting addition not as a replacement for other types of lore.
  16. Yeah adding annotations would be cool and would be useful if they linked to quest notes in your journal. Why not have some lore on the map as well? It's got to be at least a little more convenient to see the location on the map, that the lore is talking about, rather than just reading it in a book with little idea of where in the world it is. I like having lore books in game and wouldn't remove them at all but I always felt frustrated that I had to imagine where in the world the lore took place rather than just seeing where exactly. Maybe lore books could add lore to world map locations as you discover them.
  17. You can click on locations and a box will pop up with lore about those locations. Basically everything on the map is clickable. http://www.anjelsyndicate.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/BANNER-SAGA-MAP.jpg http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/3423034747905158762/305641CAE8F9C03D3A7E14D968AA1E67D61AF601/
  18. Contains plenty of lore and history about locations and has that old world look to it with the way that mountains and trees are drawn on it. http://cdn1.sbnation.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/26603035/the-banner-saga-map_789.0_cinema_960.0.png Disclaimer: I backed the banner saga and I am enjoying the heck out of it.
  19. Welcome to the forums! I know what you mean by modern gaming failing to hold one's interest. There is certainly a lack of simple but deep mechanics in AAA but more importantly soul. However, there are interesting times ahead with kickstarter.
  20. Cool update. Will there be varieties of banshee creatures? Maybe based on the varieties of ill fortune that plagued them. Good excuse to add more diverse models for them also. Like the banshee model as is but I am wondering about the creature's abilities and how they attack? Would like if there was a way of avoiding combat with them (maybe performing a ritual to woedica would placate them) Loving the lore about the gods )
  21. If you watch any horror movie their are some that rely on gore and there are others which try to psych you out and the later are usually the most effective. This is done by changing the audience's perspective on what is going on so the big reveal is more effective. I prefer horrors like 'the shining' and 'the evil dead' series which did gore right. What made the undead so effective in these movies was the cunning of the dead on display who knew your weaknesses and weren't shy on exploiting them. In the shining the dead knew Jack's weakness for alcohol and his unhappiness and exploited it. In the evil dead 1 the dead attempt to trick ash into believing his friends aren't possessed anymore. On that note I liked the resulka in quest for glory 4 who would send you to the bottom of the lake with a kiss exploiting player tendencies. It wasn't possible to kill her in combat. Interesting undead don't always revolve around the combat mechanics, you had to investigate and resolve her problems to get rid of her. Not too many rpgs that I can think of employed a cunning undead, would be nice to see it used more.
  22. Sentient fauna; you guys/gals must of seen evil dead 1 and 2 am I right? I liked the tree in sleeping hollow which had human heads inside, yuck.
