Update by Eric Fenstermaker, Lead Narrative Designer Undead abound in Heritage Hill. Hey everybody. I'm Eric Fenstermaker and I'm the lead narrative designer on Pillars of Eternity. Before this I held the same position on South Park: The Stick of Truth, so if the dialogue in Eternity ends up being a long string of obscenities and fart jokes, you know who to blame. You can direct all hate mail to my work email account, firstname.lastname@example.org. I know we suggested last week that I was going to give you a lore update, but I thought, this is a crowdfunded project. Why not complete
After gaming a bit this morning, I've got just a little rant about undead in more modern RPGs: What happened to undead being the stuff of nightmares? I'm not saying that it's all wrong, everywhere. What do you think about an oportunity for gaining some superpowers in game ? Im thinking in general something of plot related or complatly optional. For exampe a mad scientist kidnap you and is making some horrible experiments and you become undead, half-demon etc ... Or mayby in visiting a old mantion a Vampire bites you and you become vampire yourself ... Or maybe even you make some secret ritual and became a Lich ? ... What do you think ?
Some members have mentioned that standard skeletons and zombies are yesterday's news and would like them either removed or overhauled. Here's my suggestion: Once the adventuring party reaches a certain level, consider making 1 in 10 (or 1 in 5) skeletons come with a built-in "Skull Trap" spell. You strike it once, and it detonates like the "Blast Skeletons" in IWD. But they look like regular skellies so you can't tell them apart. And make zombies SPRINT, DayZ style. Problem solved.
