  1. Gorath in Betrayal at Krondor is what i'm expecting of Eternity's Elves, rather barbaric and honour bound fellows rather than the usual stuck up popinjays, also the tallest character in the roster which is a nice change. Didn't much care for the Melnibonean's and Vadhagh, though the Corum novels were nicely evocative. Agreed that Dunsany's and Anderson's barely human, cruel fey were far more palatable.
  2. Sounds like a perfect class for the "Gish" or spellsword that a lot of people have been asking for.
  3. So Ciphers have to actively be involved in combat to increase their focus, does this mean they cannot use ranged weapons or some kind of purely mental attack? Oh and on an unrelated note, thank you for the early release of the last few updates, very considerate for those of us across the pond.
  4. One has to agree, that gentlemans skull is enormous.
  5. After an exhaustive check I realised I have everything on that list, except for the self respect in the title, if that's not irony then I don't know what is.
  6. As a counterpoint to the rather engrossing and earnest Krondor, I have been playing a little Shadow Warrior, massive fun, perfect gameplay feel and superb old school level design. Really having a blast, and the katana combat is sublime, up there with Severance: Blade of Darkness but far faster. The story's quite something as well, and the humour quite broad but effective.
  7. What about an illustration of some ancient scholar, perhaps from Engwithan legend, experimenting on corpses and first finding the existence of the soul. The games title could be taken from his initial exclamation: Ahhhh Souls.
  8. Important note: When the pitter patter of little feet echo in your home half or more of these possessions will be broken or ruined by sticky finger smears, vomit or nappy napalm, enjoy.
  9. I have multiple frying and saute pans, will they pass muster for whatever a skillet is or is that thing somewhat wok like? I would add a nice little bit of land to that list, and a well trained hound, a home is empty without one. Edit: Oh and a good cutthroat, i'd never employ anybody with even a hint of stubble.
  10. I shall now most cruelly traumatise you: Firewine bridge ruins! Yes the pathfinding is the most glaring issue, rather irritating what. Edit: Still expect the chaps have learned a trick or two since then.
  11. Heartily agree, still enthralling after repeated playthroughs. Edit: Mr Soule's soundtrack really enhances this cinematic.
  12. The King of Dragon Pass/Darklands text and illustration method is far more gripping for me, without the massive random success factor of course.
  13. Yes they're cowardly, bloodthirsty, indoctrinated idiots but whiter shade of pale was quite a good tune. Edit: Sorry, couldn't help it.
  14. The appropriate skills should be modified: Frollicking +20 Snooty +25 Flouncing +15 Poetry (drivel) +50 Surrendering +25 Running away +75 Smugness +100 Hope this helps.
  15. One always wonders, when this topic arises, whether a world that totally immersed the player and subjugated his consciousness in an illusory world would be a good thing. What are the chances of addiction for such an enthralling experience? In a virtual world that simulated a reality like the matrix, but flavoured to the players choice, would that escapist power fantasy bankrupt the enjoyment of real life pleasures? Would people willingly give up reality to pursue such dreams, perhaps even face illness or infirmity with a little escapism to bouy them up? Would we welcome the illusion?
  16. My personal bete noire is a lack of internal consistency, implement this and i'm usually quite easily immersed. No man is an island, except when he's in the bath.
  17. Ones manners are impeccable, ones misery fiercely retained.
  18. Ten minutes of joy, twenty years of misery.
  19. Is a BW game, if you stare at a wall long enough you'll get sex scene. Gotta capture that Twitcher crowd. Ooh are they having bird watching in Dragon Age 3?
  20. Did not know that Keyrock, much obliged.
  21. Shadow Warrior released on GOG for $35.99, that's 10% off until next Thursday. The old point and clicker Flight of the Amazon Queen is also free to acquire today only, apparently it's GOG's fifth birthday. Tempus fugit eh?
  22. No the central message of Journey is that however long your scarf gets, you'll never wear it with as much panache as Tom Baker.
  23. I'd have bought any game that continued the excellent saga of Kain's battle against the tyrannous stars, why drop one of the few interesting narrative vehicles in favour of yet another free to play mmo combat game, it's hardly as if the market does not have enough. And why would they think that the fan base for the Legacy of Kain games would want or support this, have they done any market research with the audience whatsoever. As for the Razelim, one suspects that the introduction of the various obstacles in the time streams that Raziel made in Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance can justify many changes to Kain's decaying empire.
  24. I personally wouldn't say that I exhibited hate for Bioware but every depiction of characters they make are sickeningly dependant on the protagonist, or possessed of little to no motivation. Take Aveline for example, incompetent at her job which we see from the bandit fights every ten feet in Kirkwall, knowingly abandons her duty and fellow guardsmen to adventure with an old acquaintance, is too stupid to ask for pay putting her life on the line for this person, as a grown widow woman needs help in courting a man, etcetera. This doesn't strike me as a good representation of a character whether male or female, if the interviewer had brought up Kreia, Cass or Jeyne Kassynder as a good representation of a female character then that would have been far more appropriate I believe. Obsidian characters in my view are without a doubt far more nuanced and independent than the set dressing caricatures of Bioware.
  25. Legacy of Kain...why? Edit: If I wasn't an Englishman and thus emotionally autistic i'd go somewhere and have a little cry.
