  1. Film noir, Dead Money for New Vegas showcased what they could do in that medium, i'd definitely love to see more. Something very weird and original. Perhaps like Torn, a disjointed theatre of conflict, spread across many worlds and environments. With no sure rules or limits, maybe something dreamlike and subliminal, that can shift and shape itself to the viewers imaginings for better or worse.
  2. Quango, sounds like a particularly brutal general for the great Khan. Compost, not sure why.
  3. Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Temple of Elemental Evil do just this. Also you might wish to investigate the Ultima series, their use of reagents was quite well implemented, though a lot of work.
  4. There are quite a few going up in Scotland, had to lease some new land because of there construction scaring away the Fallow and Reds, and talking with the local farmers they seem to pay quite handsomely. Also noticed quite a few up near Holmfirth, where the in laws live, they never seem to be on though strangely enough. Both areas are quite scenic. Edit: I assume the long term future lies in cold fusion ultimately, though i'm by no means an expert on such things.
  5. Who were the gentlemen who advocated this philosophy, the Cathar's?
  6. That chap who led the Ten Thousand back from the battle of Cunaxa has always piqued my interest, was it Xenophon? Can't quite remember, but the feat supposedly inspired Alexander.
  7. Much appreciated Moderators, I assume you fine ladies and gentleman have been rather snowed under of late so I thought i'd drop a line or two of gratitude, thank you.
  8. I'm afraid to say that i'm bereft of the Kickstarter badge, in fact you could say that i'm none-k, hahahahaha. I'll get my coat.
  9. Well thought it was time that I joined this august body, picked "Not of the Obsidian Order" as my title, as I do like a good paradox. One assumes that the title and kickstarter badge will take a little time to update, until then good evening ladies and gentlemen.
  10. My opinion has probably been aired earlier in the threads by my good peers, however I will add my voice to the discussion: I prefer deeper and more involved companions than a larger number of said individuals, wilderness areas I would be more than happy to see blossom and thrive however.
  11. Always liked this division since it was first announced, brings with it a healthy dose of danger and strategic management. Personally I hope there's no mechanic such as DA:O's injury kits though, carrying around a few dozen of these made injuries in that game a triviality barely noticed. One had the impression of slight discomfort while the description read broken leg or somesuch, a little jarring to say the least.
  12. Waste of Simon Templeman, ***SPOILER maybe*** I did like the co-op madness aspect when I played as Carver with my lad playing Isaac however. ***END SPOILER maybe***
  13. Yes I agree Novigrad and Eredin in his Hunt armour are both looking especially nice.
  14. Gametrailer's trailer/teaser/very short whatever the nomenclature: http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/g82gj1/the-witcher-3--wild-hunt-vgx-2013--world-premiere-trailer Really not sure what to think of this, seems like a very simple plot when compared to the first two games, but I suppose one could refine those two down to: Find the Witcher Mutagens and Find the Kingslayer, so there is hope that the game will be far more than a simple face off between the Dearg Rhudri and Geralt, while utilising a simple theme.
  15. Happy anniversary Obsidian, i've very much enjoyed your output over the last decade. Looking at the above picture I feel the appropriate parting line is: Rock On.
  16. Well the old knees are telling me in no uncertain terms that i'm about done with Rugger, time to hang up the oddly shaped balls, think i'll have to start a new workout regimen and cut back on the good wifes cooking.
  17. If you like Dark Souls you might wish to give Severance: Blade of Darkness a try Mr Bell, it has a similar atmospheric lonely magnificence to it, and dare I say an even better combat system. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d177lE70MVU
  18. There seems to be a subtle sub theme in the game where the great powerbrokers of the North all have a similar flaw, in that they underestimate those around them, and ironically it is the greatest gameplayer herself who seems to be the most blind, Philippa herself. Thus I saw the blinding as a rather nice thematic device, even though we know from the books that this injury can be healed. Personally I would not consider her an idiot, her seizing on Saskia's true nature and taking advantage of it at Vergen is too competent, and her manipulation of both Geralt and Iorveth after this is inspired. That and I believe she was probably the chief financier and PR person for Saskia's rebellion, as well as implementing long term plans to take Aedirn and thus rid herself of one of the most devious kings in the North, Demavend. However I would agree that she was doing exactly what she accuses Triss of, thinking with her privates. That and she forgot the child whose father she killed, showing how she fatally underestimates her opposition again, anyone could have told her that Radovid was the one to watch. His inspired use of Salamandra, the Order and parley with Foltest in the first game speak of his devious nature. Still a cut above most antagonists I would argue, and certainly most female characters, only the lesbomancy scenes slighted her character and I wonder if she was doing that to flaunt her sexuality in the birthplace of her new state, keep Geralt's mind distracted or perhaps a mixture of both.
  19. Reminds me of Extra Credits, that is not a compliment. Personally I thought the game was so-so, though I did like the Hitchhikers voiceover.
  20. Watched Charlie Brooker's "How videogames changed the world." Quite entertaining and informative, though I think Mr Brooker could very easily drop the wry, sarcastic persona and play it straight, as that personality is becoming a little stale in my eyes.
  21. His privates are set above a rather large conflagration, thus the grimace.
  22. I'll let Obsidian surprise me, however I certainly don't want a situation like in DA:O where Sten asks my Dwarf for advice about humans, like the Orzammar native would know. Certainly he neither knew nor cared about spellcasters. Edit: I guess i'm really asking for dialogue options that fit my character, or which will clearly mark out his personality like in Torment and clearly have an effect in the world. After all just because the writers give us only a limited number of options is no reason to have illogical, unreactive ones, then again I trust Obsidian in this respect, they've proved themselves above the developers who make all their responses lead to the same outcome.
  23. This really makes a difference in order to achieve a teeming world where people go about their lives and businesses, as it were, and in Divinity: Original Sin we'll see a return of this Ultima depth of a CRPG. However, it's quite time-consuming for the Devs, and does it really enchance gameplay that much? A harsh question, perhaps, but I'd say MotB and it's attention to story and varied environments with unique events meant much more to me RPG-wise. It was too railroaded at times, but still, wow! It was fantastic, literally, it was like being in an exciting series of dreams, at times. P.S. And yes, Witcher 2's combat, just like Kingdom of Amalur's, made me stop playing the game, and that's not a good thing. I'd much rather have much less encounters that are very varied and unpredictable. Hopefully, Torment Numenera will get that right. Though I would agree that MOTB was a tour de force without doubt, I do feel that this is the very aspect that has resulted in nearly twenty years of decline for rpg's. Too much discarding of what is not conducive to the core experience has led to several examples of rather dead lifeless worlds, Dragon Age 2 immediately springs to mind, which was in essence a succession of corridors, wherein alternate combat and conversation were partaken in. That is what I fear lies ahead for mainstream rpg's, and that Kickstarter with its different priorities might be a solution to. Having a believable and living world is a thing to aspire to in and of itself for me, and aids environments verisimilitude and depth, even if it is just in terms of plentiful text descriptions littered throughout the gamescape, as we find in the beginning areas of say Icewind Dale. Indeed I would say that a rich and reactive environment can tell its own little story, equally as effectively as those spoken by npc's or acted out in the main narrative. Whether this be as simple as equipping swamp boots to progress through a marsh, furs to venture into the frozen north or simply taking a seat at the Blue Boar and ordering dinner, while listening to the band who perform in one corner, before stumbling to the Inn, renting a room and curling up under the covers of your bed. There is a certain charm and completeness in seeing or reading of this, for me at any rate, and it has been sorely missed in modern games. Good examples would be Ultima 7 obviously, the wonderful text descriptions of Betrayal at Krondor thanks to Mr Halford, and for a more modern iteration the bustling medieval city of Vizima in the first Witcher as well as certain parts of New Vegas.
  24. As far as i'm aware Eredin wants nothing from the Witcher's world, other than the secret of the Elder Blood that Ciri holds, they know that the Ice Age is coming to consume that world. I hope for this very reason that there is no mass otherworldly invasion, as that seems a rather tired plot hardly worthy of what the Witcher has created so far. Personally i'd prefer a hidden subtext of the Dearg Rhudri's hunt for Cirilla, framed by the background of the war consuming the Northern Kingdoms, wolves in the shadows if you will. I wonder whether the Elder Blood is being researched by the Aen Seidhe on the Witcher's world simply because of the time dilation effect? Centuries of breeding and testing pass, but only a few days have flitted by in the riders bone strewn gardens. Edit: I agree that to solve the Ciri situation there seems to be no alternative other than bearding the Wild Hunt, however there are apparently three endings, though I suspect all of them shall be tragic in some way.
  25. From Sexton Blake? I'm sure i've read an interview somewhere where he admitted to basing Elric directly on Kullervo, certainly we see the resemblance in The Dreaming City. I'll look around, though I may be misremembering as it was probably a few decades ago. Edit: Must re-read some Poul Anderson and Fritz Leiber. 2nd Edit: Apparently it was neither, the gentleman was simply making an anti Conan. http://www.multiverse.org/fora/showthread.php?t=4235 3rd and last Edit: Found a rather hilarious comparison list: Elric of Melnibone: Rightful emperor of Melnibone, and thus most powerful individual in all the Young Kingdoms. Elven. Albino. Weakling who needs to sustain himself with either drugs or stolen souls. Mightiest mage in all of the young kingdoms. Worshipper of the chaos gods. Frequently stupid. Bound symbiotically to a soul eating sentient sword. One aspect of the champion eternal, a multiversal hero. His people have ruled the world for ten millenia. Rides Dragons and sometimes even weirder craft. Has few friends or acquaintances, mainly Dyvim and Moonglum. Geralt of Rivia: Orphaned child without family or fortune. Human. White haired and cat eyed due to witcher mutations. Superhuman, immune to disease and the ravages of time. Knows a few witcher tricks, the signs. Agnostic, with a certain distaste for fate. Clever, know his craft like the back of his hand. Bear two mundane sword, one silver and one steel. Is not sure whether fate exists, certainly does not like to think of himself as a pawn of it. Witchers are few and rapidly dying out, at their height they were reviled freaks. Rides a horse that he calls Roach. Has many friends.
