  1. This should be Aloth. He is ALREADY half-woman Which is exactly why he shouldn't. Basically all of the male companions from PoE except Aloth are masculine. Edér boast about his sexual experiences with women. Hiravias flirts aggressively with women. Durance likes to call women whores. Kana tries to flirt with Maneha as well. Their personalities suffice to avoid any questions about their masculinity or sexuality. They are unquestionably men. Aloth is the only male companion who is shown to be weak, a coward even. As can be seen right here this creates questions about his sexuality. Aloth being bisexual or gay really would confirm some problematic stereotypes. Nevermind the whole issue of Iselmyr. Being sometimes female has a whole other set of complications. Isemyr would contribute to an association of homosexuality or bisexuality with being transgender. Presumably Deadfire will mostly played by people who identify as straight who tend not to differentiate between sexual identity, behavior and attraction. Nontheless Carrie Patel wrote Aloth and Maneha. Of all writers she appears most eager to write characters who don't confirm to gender roles. Therefore I'd say the likelihood of Aloth being interested in men is unfortunately still quite high if Patel wrote him in Deadfire. If I'm not mistaken, Iselmyr herself flirts once or twice with women as well. I'm not sure if that is her just being sassy, or an indication to her sexual orientation; but all the same it *also* raises the point that, even if Aloth were "part-woman", his female half would *still* not necessarily be interested in men, or be uninterested in women. Personally I'm expecting all three original companions to remain either heterosexual or non-romanceable, just because it will keep the whole can of worms about an unexpected sexuality reveal closed - but in the event that one of them *does* turn out to be homosexual... I'm actually half-suspecting it'll be Pallegina. Which would mean bad news for my protagonist, if so. I am betting my coins on the same sex relationships to be had with the new companions instead though - at least so long as a heterosexual relationship with them is made impossible. Otherwise, I also think that we are perhaps not reading enough between the lines about what Josh is saying in his tumblr response. What Josh says is that they want to make companions attracted to a character who only relates to a certain range of qualities - this could be sex, yes, but it could also be race/subrace, or even background, stats and class too. Maybe all these variables will play a stronger role than sex itself when determining whether a character will or won't have a romance with you. In that sense, maybe Edér may be romanceable as a male or female alike... So long as you aren't an orlan. Or, for that matter, Pallegina may be up for having a relationship with your character, provided you are not a priest. Yeah, personally I think the major factor will be reputations. If you have a high rep for being cruel, it doesn't matter how nice you are to her face Xoti knows you are scum from your actions and won't drop her lantern for you, but it will open doors for getting Serafen swinging in your hammock.
  2. I... didn't buy anything in the sale. Is there something wrong with me??!
  3. Happy New Year you magnificent illegitmate offspring you! May the new year bring you what you want, unless it goes against what I want, in which case screw you hippies!
  4. This should be Aloth. He is ALREADY half-woman Well, he's already popular and funny, so the chances are pretty high. You know what would be really cool about Aloth? If you made him keep Iselmyr in POE1 then he'd like males because she'll be dominant, but if you made him suppress her then he'd like females. Though I doubt devs thought of this and are just gonna put a cliche 'gay' label on him cuz he's an elf . Too bad. This was discussed in a previous thread before, I think some people felt that Iselmyr wasn't trying to take over Aloth but was just trying to make him more assertive. And was trying to get him to hit on people she knew he wouldn't have the guts to do on his own as part of this, such as her comments towards Pallegina.
  5. That's the thing I hate about Abrams, he makes up these 'mysteries' on the fly and just keeps spamming them thinking they make the audience go "ooh" only to then either give a poor answer (because he made it up without thinking of what the answer was in the first place and now has to make one up) or never actually answers it like his Lost did. The guy's a hack and I genuinely don't know how he manages to get the jobs he does.
  6. I enjoyed the Last Jedi, thought it was good and one of the better Star Wars films, but it is NOT subversive at all let alone af. Those who say it is must not have been paying attention when (if) they watched Empire Strikes Back (of which it is pretty much in theme with, though less of a copy thankfully than TFA was of ANH) or Revenge of the Sith.
  7. The dialogue Obsidian writes on a bad day while sat on the crapper literally ****ting it out onto the toilet paper is still alot better than a lot of the dialogue written by Bioware, but then that is not that hard tbh. People mistake Bioware's quantity of dialogue for quality and for a long time there wasn't much competition for them in the writing department for games. Then again, I'm an elitist **** so of course I'd say that.
  8. Being British naturally my accent is downright a ladies' magnet. And for those embarassed by not understanding certain accents, don't be, we can't understand most of our own accents either. Native speakers in Britain cannot understand the Liverpudlian accent known as Scouse, we are convinced they aren't actually speaking English at all and its just been some big con. There was a kids' show called Byker Grove that was infamous for being indecipherable, so if you want to experience it for yourself look for that.
  9. It rises!!! It always comes back to life like romance threads (which is where they got the name for necromancy from, true story).
  10. I was wondering what the hell you were doing with those vids as I had no idea why you were doing it. Now I... still don't know why you were doing it, I don't understand what this thread is about, and I am scared and confused about everything. So in summary, no change from normal.
  11. Quick question for those playing the beta: does a Cipher/Ranger gain any focus from their animal companion or have talents that enable them to do so?
  12. I misread that as lightning. I was like, "Where's the sparky boom?" So did I. I do like Lightning and electricity attacks, always go for them over Fire and Frost when given a choice.
  13. I misread that as lightning. I was like, "Where's the sparky boom?"
  14. I'm on Lephys on this one. When things happen randomly "for plot" then it loses drama. When a guy holds a gun against another guy's head there is a sense of danger because you know the rules is that guns can blow people's brains out and you wonder "How is he going to get out of this?" If the gun then shoots flowers because magic, then this and all future situations lose their edge because you just don't know what could happen or whether the danger is real, the methods heroes use to get out of then cease to be clever because its just whatever the author wants to happen as opposed to genuine clever maneuvers, etc. Knowing that a hole in a spacesuit could lead to someone dying creates drama, this is lost when you have characters running around in space wearing just gas masks with no ill effects. Just my two pennies.
  15. I hope they make barbarians need intelligence even more, just to annoy those who are obsessed with the 'dumb barbarian' archetype.
  16. I'm just a RIchard, I try to keep it under wraps but sometimes it just bursts forth. Particularly when I get wound up. Working to improve it though, used to be REALLY easy to wind up on forums before.
  17. Right, my path is clear: I must burn you all. It's the only option...
  18. I almost wish he'd make a "fake" account and actually post on here as just some random theorycrafter, heh. *Eyes Lephys suspiciously* That's the kind of thing a fake account would say to make it look like they were not a fake account... *Straps Lephys into a chair and shines four lights in his face* There are FIVE lights!
  19. Finally we have an official portrait of a bearded Pale Elf! Naturally all Pale Elves should have been bearded from the start, including the women, who should have had full flowing Santa beards. In fact, considering Christmas is coming up, I am astounded that all the portraits were not modified to have Santa Beards! Astounded I say!
  20. This got me thinking actually. We know that if you go through with her quest she , and its an ocean that Deadfire is set in which has random encounters at sea, so there is a possibility that we could end up dredging her up! She isn't a companion (unless she is like a secret companion) but we do know that former companions from the first game may appear or at least cameo in the game, so we may find a piece of her at least.
  21. I hope you don't expect to pass that bronze handshake off as the gift to me. And I do expect a gift you know. Something nice.
  22. Sorry, you're right and it's derailing the topic, I'll bow out now.
  23. So, currently, it looks like we won't have full control over how we multiclass companions. A little disappointing, as I had been looking forward to making Edér a Fighter/Priest of Eothas, but perhaps it'll change. It's what I said, only no one would believe me. It's actually a pretty obvious consequence of the changes to the multiclass system. Huh For me companion multiclassing possibilities locked to specific classes (e.g. Eder only as a Fighter/Rogue) was clear from the start. Sure, me too, but I got a lot of flack for saying so. There seemed to be an expectation that they would be able to choose to make Eder a fighter or rogue then choose any other multiclass. You got zero flack for it. You made a claim that the companion classes would be locked down and that we would have zero choice about whether to multiclass them or not, a few others pointed out information that conflicted with that, including the video that stated quite clearly that you 'chose to multiclass or not' when the character joins the party, and you immediately attacked everyone, accusing them of attacking you (when they were just raising points and were not arguing with your claims at all), made claims that we were expected to accept with no links or sources cited despite it conflicting with what had been officially released at the time and generally acted like a prat, and so people treated you as a prat in response. Funnily enough, my statement is proven right: you still get to choose whether they can be multi-classed or not when the character joins your party, as you can choose whether to keep Eder single class or multi-class. Feel free to debate this but don't be surprised that if you act like a prat you will be treated like one. 1) You have a funny idea of "no flack". 2) I said you would no longer be able to choose to multiclass as a consequence of the announced changes, and hence would not be able to make Eder a Rogue/Druid. I also stated, giving Swashbuckler Eder as a specific example, that you would be to choose a preset multiclass option for a character when you first met them. 3) The "information that conflicted" clearly showed the old multiclassing system which we had been told had changed. So was meaningless. 4) The only evidence that was required was the announced changes to the multiclass system. This was an obvious consequence. 5) I believe calling someone a "prat" is against the terms of conditions of these message boards. It would be nice if just for once someone admitted they where wrong and apologised, rather than resorting to Trump-like name calling. No you didn't. Here's the thread where you got the 'flack' for making the claims. Note my response, first that I was just pointing out what was said in the video (and was not even directed at you), your response where you acted like it was some sort of personal attack upon you and citing some source as evidence, and then my response where I pointed out I wasn't even disagreeing with you and asking you to chill it with the attitude. No one there gave you flack except for me, and that was in response to your behaviour, no one was even really disagreeing with you they just didn't see where you got this information from and yet you went off on one about being attacked and given flack. Do you really expect people to just accept your word and never disagree with you (which was the real issue, that people were disagreeing with you). It would be nice for you to cut the obnoxious behaviour and to back down please. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/94066-a-rundown-of-the-companions-and-sidekicks-available/page-3 Thankyou for finding the thread for me. You might have found it less embarrassing had you read it first. "But you don't "multiclass" (verb) now. A character is either multiclassed or they aren't. For example, Eder. When you first meet him you can choose for him to be a fighter, a rogue, or a fighter/rogue. No other options are available, and if you choose fighter he can't at some future point become a fighter/rogue (unless there is a full respec option)." -me And where are the people attacking you for making that claim? Debate does not count as attacks.
