  1. So, currently, it looks like we won't have full control over how we multiclass companions. A little disappointing, as I had been looking forward to making Edér a Fighter/Priest of Eothas, but perhaps it'll change. It's what I said, only no one would believe me. It's actually a pretty obvious consequence of the changes to the multiclass system. Huh For me companion multiclassing possibilities locked to specific classes (e.g. Eder only as a Fighter/Rogue) was clear from the start. Sure, me too, but I got a lot of flack for saying so. There seemed to be an expectation that they would be able to choose to make Eder a fighter or rogue then choose any other multiclass. You got zero flack for it. You made a claim that the companion classes would be locked down and that we would have zero choice about whether to multiclass them or not, a few others pointed out information that conflicted with that, including the video that stated quite clearly that you 'chose to multiclass or not' when the character joins the party, and you immediately attacked everyone, accusing them of attacking you (when they were just raising points and were not arguing with your claims at all), made claims that we were expected to accept with no links or sources cited despite it conflicting with what had been officially released at the time and generally acted like a prat, and so people treated you as a prat in response. Funnily enough, my statement is proven right: you still get to choose whether they can be multi-classed or not when the character joins your party, as you can choose whether to keep Eder single class or multi-class. Feel free to debate this but don't be surprised that if you act like a prat you will be treated like one. 1) You have a funny idea of "no flack". 2) I said you would no longer be able to choose to multiclass as a consequence of the announced changes, and hence would not be able to make Eder a Rogue/Druid. I also stated, giving Swashbuckler Eder as a specific example, that you would be to choose a preset multiclass option for a character when you first met them. 3) The "information that conflicted" clearly showed the old multiclassing system which we had been told had changed. So was meaningless. 4) The only evidence that was required was the announced changes to the multiclass system. This was an obvious consequence. 5) I believe calling someone a "prat" is against the terms of conditions of these message boards. It would be nice if just for once someone admitted they where wrong and apologised, rather than resorting to Trump-like name calling. No you didn't. Here's the thread where you got the 'flack' for making the claims. Note my response, first that I was just pointing out what was said in the video (and was not even directed at you), your response where you acted like it was some sort of personal attack upon you and citing some source as evidence, and then my response where I pointed out I wasn't even disagreeing with you and asking you to chill it with the attitude. No one there gave you flack except for me, and that was in response to your behaviour, no one was even really disagreeing with you they just didn't see where you got this information from and yet you went off on one about being attacked and given flack. Do you really expect people to just accept your word and never disagree with you (which was the real issue, that people were disagreeing with you).   3. Nope you are not alone in this. I do think we may be outnumbered unfortunately. But then taste is rarely appreciated by the masses. This I would like. Surcoats with maybe even emblems and heraldry to go on top. Always liked surcoats though so it may be my own biases showing.

Yeah I considered it, but since I only wanted digital rewards this time (adding on shipping to here for physical goods put me off it, especially since I didn't really do much with the physical stuff last time) the only reason for me to go higher really was for the beta access, and I have come to the realisation that I don't enjoy playing in beta. I prefer to wait for the full game release, avoiding spoilers and getting tired of the gameplay. Plus, I'm a grump old git these days.

  9. Uh, how about no? YOU want boobplate, nothing to do with 'needs of the game' as it is not needed by the game. Admitting that you just want to have boobplate is fine, there are plenty of games out there that already cater to your desires that I do not understand why you must make yet another game fit to the same mold but it is at least honest, trying to make out that its 'needed' on the other hand is complete bollocks if I do say so myself. I had no issue wiith determining who was male and who was female without boobplate, I had no issue determining between individual characters in fact, so in this case I'm calling it: this has nothing to do with easily distinguishable silhouettes but with you wanting faff material. Faff materials matters, yo?
  10. And self-defence. Apparently, the staff was the number one weapon used in England for homicide at one point. Or so I heard. A thick and hard-hitting stick of wood, easy to acquire. It's quite threatening by itself and if you knew how to use it, you could make your way around any sword. Yep, all this talk is making me want to go play a staff-wielding fighter in some system now...

  12. Interesting read. Most of it was obvious. I thought there would be a higher turn out from UK/Europeans, maybe we didn't get the memo. Yeah I was surprised at the low turnout especially for the UK (since we share English as our primary language). I'm wondering if information about this kind of thing going on is not passed on as well here or if Europeans are less likely to bother with surveys? I know quite a few people who have played Obsidian games, not one of them seemed to be aware of the survey and didn't mention it if they did know about it. Might bring it up sometime with them to see, or maybe I might just not bother.

I'm not keen on big-ass magic staffs being made the 'mage' weapon primarily for what another poster said: they look they should be usable in melee as well, in which case it then becomes "why not use them in melee too?" and then you just got normal mages instead of rapier mages which is what I wanted. However, I also think the 'rods' in Pillars 1 were lacking something, and weren't quite sure what they were meant to be. Rods I always thought were more cane-length implements, the largest of the implements, half-way to being a staff but made of metal and thin, and could actually be used as canes, but in Pillars they seemed to be even smaller than wands and looked like handles someone had broken off something, they were incredibly bland looking. Sceptres were closer to being rods than rods, and they looked like unwieldy bludgeoning pompous things. I actually like the 'baguette' magic wands in Pillars, they looked awesome and I liked wands being a thing. I would prefer the looks of the wands over the other two, and was annoyed that stat-wise the sceptres were just better.
  14. It's a VR game, most likely an hour long in play length. I have no reason to believe this but with VR being pushed so much these days I figured I might as well have a punt at it, either way I win.
  15. I think from the way I have heard Obsidian talk about quests and plots and stories that they have the right approach and mindset. They seem to realise that they are more like GMs in a tabletop RPG than a film director or book writer, that they are creating an interactive experience. They get that they need to create lore and story but also that they need to include player choice and reactivity. That they may have a really awesome story to tell, but realise that forcing the player down certain tracks is like the GM who railroads his players because he wants them to do this or that. I think Josh has even said that he wouldn't want someone working for him who just wanted to tell a story, that it is their job to let the player tell their own story while they provide characters and lore and opportunities. Even if that opportunity results in you being killed or creating a failed game state (killing Lady Webb), hey just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should be able to get away with it! There is a certain scene in Dragon Age that sums up the wrong attitude to have (and also shows one of the reasons why I think it is not a good game, sorry to the fans here). When you first meet Zevran, you have a woman come running up to you screaming for help and that you must follow her! Naturally, my first thought was trap, so I let her run on ahead and scrutinised the situation. I could see that there wasn't any fighting going on and what is that? Why its a literal trap! And another! What a surprise. So I bimbled over to the first one with the intention of disarming them all before doing my own trap on them, only to have a cutscene fire up of me running into the trap, and being all surprised! The enemy even gloated over me falling for the trap while I was like "Uh, no!! **** that ****!" And that's before we even get to the Forced Dilemnas that were present in that game, mainly because the game withheld information that would have been known to you in order to pull gotchas on you that you could still see coming a mile off. And characters who not only had plot armour, but threw their plot armour in your face so deserving to be stabbed in the face but unable to because she was the developers' pet character (can you guess who I'm talking about?!) . Alpha Protocol, on the other hand, let you have the opportunity to murder most of the cast at one point or another just because they knew some players would be like "Yeah don't like this guy, gonna kill 'em". Steven Heck is like the one guy you can't ever kill I think. I like Heck.

One question I have here: it says that the Hero edition will go down in price, so presumably it will still be sold separately, but is there a cut off date for the free upgrade for pre-existing owners to the new edition? I ask because it occurs to me that now would be the best time to buy the basic version and then get the free upgrade to Definitive edition with all the expansions coming free. Unless of course the price of the Definitive version will be the same as the normal version now, I deal in £ not $ so not sure what it will be in real money.

Then again, we've got that brothel in Defiance Bay. Missed opportunity that brothel: so should have had a kraken in there as one of the options....
  19. You know tentacle hentai movies? Those people. Let's call them cthulhuphiles. I have repressed all knowledge of that, so that probably explains it. Are you saying that we must banish them? Or that Dwarves must be given tentacle-beards to get them on our side?
  20. Having worn mail, I can tell you its not strength you require but endurance. Fatigue is the real killer, especially if its warm and you don't keep yourself hydrated. If you are not used to it, a penalty to doing things like walking on a tightrope too as your movements tend to be more exaggerated and you feel like you are walking under water, but that is something you can get over with experience. So not keen on gating things with attribute requirements, you force everyone to play the same character in order to use certain types of weapons, and it just feels artificial. As someone who actually knows a little about armour these requirements actually ruin it for me as they are usually done by people with no clue as to what you would actually need to use them, and unrealistic. Just leave it as it is, I like choosing how my characters go armoured thank you and gated items are just pants. No, the more I think about this the more I hate it, don't bring crap in from other systems! They are crap there and they are crap here!
  21. Looking at the original question-asker there, they speak about their desire to romance Tekehu. Tekehu. Who the hell are these people who want to romance Tekehu and where are they hiding? And why do they hate Dwarves so much?
  22. If the KW penalty is supposed to represent fair play, then why not simply have them unable to BENEFIT from certain statuses like Flanked or Hobbled? As in, they don't get the accuracy bonus for attacking someone who is flanked but doesn't take a penalty either? Not sure on the balance of such a thing though or how it would play out in game. EDIT: Then again, I'm not sure why KWs would be interested in fair play. Nothing about their lore indicates they only fight fairly. If anything, they are portrayed as the more passionate, ragey kind of paladins who dive in to save people at the risk of their own lives. Many of their ranks are low-born, and they travel around alot. St Ydwen's Redeemer portrays Ydwen the original paladin wielder of said sword and a Kind Wayfarer as someone who was willing to (and actually did) throw her life away to save others, nothing about fairplay there.
