[v278] Action cancel no longer works
C2B replied to Sensuki's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
It seems to be a bug as cancel in general doesn't seem to be working. There is a keybinding option for it though. Speaking of keybinding its not...... really great at the moment. For example due to how its set up you can't assign the mouse for an action. -

? I don't see it. You can refresh the steam homepage by pressing F5 (or right click --> refresh), or like Ganrich says, close and reopen Steam. Yeah, I figured it out^^

Their long-term direction is a bit different from WOT's. Also that's pre-alpha footage. Still lots of things that are going to change. I doubt thats the final UI for example.

I was also not aware that you could cancel your KS pledge once the project is funded, that doesn't seem right at all. By the time the backer site was up OE must have went through more then half the money. You could have. Anytime. (Until August 22nd) Obsidian would have just paid it out of their own pockets.

I don't know. I think he has a valid concern. At the very least, what they seem to be delivering as indicated by the beta, and what many were led to expect via the kickstarter campaign are quite different. I'm personally okay with what I've seen of the game and am pretty confident that it's going to be a good, fun experience when it's released because - as you noted - much can be tweaked. But I'm also pretty confident it won't be nearly what I had pictured while the KS was running. This game is so far looking very different from what I would have expected from a spiritual blend of IWD, BG, and PS:T. They said from the very beginning though that they are not going to use D&D. What more could they have explained at that point in time? Its not like they had any real design done. The only way this information could have been provided is if they already had begun working on the game. Yet, at that time Obsidian was struggeling as is (having needed to lay off a third of their company just months before and desperatly looking for a new contract), everyone was crying that they wanted a Obsidian Kickstarter NOW and, in the same vein, everyone was talking about how Kickstarter was a fad and you had to do it RIGHT NOW. Its easy to note these things in retrospect. But it was quite a different situation back then. As for Sawyer. It's not like he ever hid his feelings for BGII and critisisms either. All that stuff he mentioned way before the Kickstarter.

From the comments section of the boardgamesgeek article So, is pass and play the only way to be able to play this game or is online functionality planned as well?

You may know Stephanie from here btw.

Pretty disappointed, this launches in December?
C2B replied to khermann's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I just want to reply to this "it's a beta" or "it's something different" line of excuse-making. The level of things missing from the game and the amount of things not working, and the stuff that is basically sure to be in the game but the general view is that it's not good etc... Is WAY to much for a game that's suppose to come out in 3 months time. I backed this project, I want my BG successor great game, but unless they push it back a few months, I think I'm (me, personally) in for a massive disappointment. Whats missing? Or do you only mean placeholder stuff? -
No, I'm not saying that. Where did I say that? As I said on RPGCodex. Bitch all you like about the quality. Because it is terrible atm and until we have confirmation that it is a placeholder its what we know.

What? Yes, .... yes you do.

They said early that these would be either Companions or important NPC's. As such they were never confirmed as companions. So, no surprise really. And theres a good chance we'll meet Forton and Cadegund anyway.

So uhm, is the beta part of the final game or not?
C2B replied to Mayama's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yes it is? Read the related updates again It's sidecontent (with one quest I think cut out in regards to spoilers) -
Yes. Though I think them seriously discussing it now is just fear towards release.

SR3 just felt like Just Cause 2 with an actual story and bigger variety of the samey missions, and I hated JC2. Not saying it's horrible, but definitely something I'm not into anymore. That's not the point. It is easy but it's more like, why is that even in a game? It's not fun. Doing it once was more than enough.I had lots of fun with insurance fraud. All about timing.

Pre-Alpha footage Gameplay itself seems very much like a better WOT as excpected (at this stage). Otherwise its *just* one-two pve maps that are shown. Biggest concern IMO is that the AI seems to be too weak. Hopefully still in development/tuned down for demonstration purposes. Thats a large part of whats going to make PVE interesting after all. Otherwise looks surprisingly good considering that this is Obsidians first time making anything like it and considering its pre-alpha.
