Fallout 3 First Impressions
Lare Kikkeli replied to Killian Kalthorne's topic in Computer and Console
Alright so pro's and cons: Pro: VATS is hilarious and completely awesome. This is how you make a turnbased FPS. They've almost nailed the Fallout feel, but it's close enough to be a pro. It's maybe a bit too, i dunno, dramatic as where the original Fallouts were cynical and laconic. Even the intro with Ron Perlman was kind of cheesy. Art direction is top notch. Con: Animations are horrible. Dialog has been very uninspiring so far. Not ES bad, but nothing to brag about either. Dodgy design decisions like unkillable NPC's (I beat my dad & the assistant up, crippled their heads (?) so they fell unconscious, and they weren't even mad at me). This is based on the tutorial alone. Despite the cons I'm still enjoying myself more than any RPG since, well, Fallout 2. -
Fallout 3 First Impressions

Whats up with looking like a square bok -
When will you fundies understand that evolution is not a theory about the origins of life. It doesn't matter how life began from an evolutionary standpoint.

This game rules. The dismemberment is hilarious and it's overall very polished. Scary though? No way. GOTY so far.

Dead Space, waiting for Fallout 3.

From what I've read it's got pretty much universal praise and everyone seems to think that it's like Oblivion yes, but with all its major flaws fixed (apart from the less than stellar animation & models). So unless you just absolutely hate everything about Oblivion instead of just it's glaring flaws, you'll prob. like this game.
-
That's surprisingly ugly. No AA on?
-
I've had a Samsung SyncMaster 940NW for ~6 months and it's been great. No complaints.
-
What people think is the problem is that all of Oblivions "major" flaws seem to have crossed over to Fallout 3; the wooden animations, worst of radiant AI, artificial walls in the game world, level scaling etc.

Nasty Diablo! Is a fairy tale they say...

It looks friggin awesome. I will be buying this the day it hits the stores. Witch Doctor all the way beyatch -
Diablo 3. The wizard trailer is very impressive. Haven't been this excited since BG2 to be honest. I guess Fallout 3 too, if only to see how bad they screwed it up. That PoP trailer looks very nice, I love the art direction. That is what games are supposed to look like, 3d animation. I wish Blizzard would have done the same with D3.

Yeah it's a shame that the guy was spotted, but the polive did nothing. Now everyone is refusing to take responsibility, the minister of interior included. She promised to tighten gun laws after the Jokela incident, but did nothing but downplay the threat of these things happening again. She ****ed up, plain and simple, and is now refusing to take responsibility of her own **** ups. Finland sucks

With the use any item HLA they can.

The killer in this case was NOT a hardened criminal.

These are all copyrighted works that you can buy from the store, and even if the mixes have never been released the songs have. I think this is against the board rules, not to mention illegal.

Wasn't there a mass stabbing in Japan by a school kid recently? Japan has one of the tightest gun laws in the world btw. I'm all for making gun permits harder to get (and maybe banning hand guns altogether, they're not needed in Finland in any way), but that just isn't the solution here. Young people are getting more and more disillusioned with the world and hard values like taks's that emphasize the idea that I am better than anyone else and always right will only make these kind of things happen more. I'm no wiser than Xard or Morgoth or anyone, I can't single out a reason for these two tragic incidents.

Whats up with all these wussy threads Walsh?

Please enlighten me: what kind of bitrate does your delicate ears need to be satisfied? Well with good enough gear you can hear the difference between any compressed format and lossless, but you have to train not too much unlike a jedi to get there And that comes from the same person who advices to burn MP3s and compress them again... It may not be totally perfect, but you can't expect the pioneers to be as progressive as Reznor (who offers downloads above CD quality). Youtube sounds f*** bad compared to my old 128kbit MP3s, even WMAs. Well that advice was for people who pay for DRM'd mp3's in the first place. People who actually care about the quality drop wouldn't buy from the iTunes store in the first place. Also Trent wasn't too much behind Radiohead in releasing stuff for free (iirc 6 months give or take a few). The difference is he'd done his research and was really fed up with the music industry treating their client base (and the artists!) like poo, where Radiohead just released a bunch of low bitrate mp3's to generate sales for their next album.
-
Protip: Easy way to get rid of DRM on mp3's is to burn them on a CD and re-rip them. The quality will drop a little but I guess people who would pay for mp3's won't care about stuff like sound quality. Still waiting for the online music store with lossless only and a pdf of the cover so I can make my own case for the cd... edit: Also Radiohead are a bunch of greedy ****s who used the whole FREE ONLINE DISTRIBUTION as a gimmick to generate more sales. The version of In Rainbows that was free to download was 160 kbps, slightly above youtube quality. And that's fine, you don't need to give away anything but if the product you are releasing "for free" is butchered and mangled you probably should mention it. Trent Reznor on the other hand is a cool guy and I've got nothing but respect for him.

I don't care how many laws I break, or if developers are losing money when I pirate a game using SecuRom. Stuff like SecuRom is killing the whole PC business. I'll gladly pirate games that use it as a protest, and stop when everyone just does what Valve or Stardock is doing. I'm breaking the rules to make a statement, and I dont give a damn if you call me a criminal or a bad person for it. The old model of developer - publisher is archaic and apparently just like the music and movie industry will crash and burn because they can't adapt to a world with internet.

Fallout 3 Kicks Its Drug Habit

Beth are a bunch of pussies allowing themselves to get pushed around. The real solution would have been not to sell this in australia. Most people interested would just have imported a copy. -
Not even close to.. BREAKING NEWS: FALLOUT3
Lare Kikkeli replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
WAT? Sorrry, meant to write "won't necessarily be a complete failure". Beth has made some dodgy design decisions, like level scaling, and the game is bound to be a buggy mess at release. I'll probably get it, but I have my doubts. -
My awful computer needs an update. Bad.
Lare Kikkeli replied to WILL THE ALMIGHTY's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
Right now 2 gigs is enough for gaming. You only need more if you do video editing, Photoshop or just like to have a lot of programs open at the same time. 4 gigs is more than enough for a home computer.
