So I got to thinking about games communities, Intellectual Property....
Not realy, all they need to do is not to make it on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, and release it only for DS and PSP... Was the JA DS port a big seller? Because I'd imagine that would be the litmus test whether anyone thought a new DS game would be worth it. the fun about DS and PSP ports is, that it does not need to became big seller to make ****loads of profit... budget for DS/PSP games is usualy 10-100x lower, so you need to sell only a fraction of copies to be financialy successful... The biggest money maker this year was without doubts Dragon Quest IX, made only for DS... it sold 2.3 million copies in first two days, and over 4 million on 26.09.2009 and the most funny thing about it is that compared to GTAIV or Fallout 3 the budget used for development was laughable... Square Enix is now bathing in money...

It depends very heavily on what you want to achieve, your budget and audience you are aiming to appease, in gaming bussiness, or in any other bussiness, it is easily possible to make more money with small budget and right marketing strategy with 100K units sold, than to make money with AAA budget and 1 million units sold...

Xbox 360 - Turn Based jRPG's
- What are you playing now?
At this moment i play Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy Dissidia... I would not believe, that i could have so much fun with such kind of o game ... and what i do like best, it is hard as **** for me... so finaly i found some game where i dont feel totaly overpowered compared to AI, and dont breeze through it in less than 8 hours on max difficulty...- NWN2 and SOZ, five bucks each on Direct 2 Drive.
If that would be future of DD, i would not say a single bad word on this kind of distribution. TBH i would be missing the nice boxes and manuals (not every company puts no effort into this kind of things, especialy when you buy Collectors Edition), but with this kind of freedom available to me, as a paying customer, i can say i would be pretty much very happy customer... Actually yes. Especially when it's something that was particularly memorable, (positively or negatively). Yes you are kinda right, but sometimes you come accorss things you would like to forget about, and sometimes you are lucky and the memory is gone aswell- NWN2 and SOZ, five bucks each on Direct 2 Drive.
Where did you get them from? it was some english learning software for my younger sister, from now defunct software developer from my country, which name i don't even remeber now . Their activation servers are gone, so is my software, because no one even bothered to crack their software... lesson learned... mandatory online activation for any software, music, movie or toilet-paper is not acceptable for me anymore... What's the name of this software exactly? I bought it about 4 years ago, i have absolutely no clue... Do you remeber every present you ever gave to your family? All what i remember atm is that i even had to uninstall NOD32 so it would start...- NWN2 and SOZ, five bucks each on Direct 2 Drive.
there fixed for you... Because doftware from digital downloads is not DRMed, right? you will not understand unless you experience it by yourself... But i would never wish that on you...- NWN2 and SOZ, five bucks each on Direct 2 Drive.
If i recall correctly, they had very good name (long time ago so my memory is fading on it), that's why i was not affraid to purchase at that time from them... and besides i don't see difference between German, UK, Slovak, USA, Burkina Faso or Cambodja DRM servers... they could be turned off anytime... http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2008/07/here-...s-away-drm-keys or you would call Yahoo as shady stuff aswell?- NWN2 and SOZ, five bucks each on Direct 2 Drive.

Can't agree with you on this one, it surely saves money for producer, but for me all 6 digital downloads i purchased unfortunately are not working anymore (due to servers taken down)... so they did not save a dime for me quite opposite...- Microsoft wants to buy.....EA?
And the i would go out get drunk as a Dane and celebrate- Need For Speed: Shift demo
The ground that birthed me, wears marks of ol' Atari, more specificaly 800XL- Need For Speed: Shift demo
unfortunately the cheap plastic provides more entertainment last few years...- Need For Speed: Shift demo
I still don't understand why people use this as an argument. There's nothing stopping you from using the TV as your monitor and using the 360 wireless controller if you can't use KB/M on the couch/whatever you sit on. The TV isn't an arguement, I just really have no interest in anything that has been released on PC at all. It's been over a year nearly since anything has been released that has been a PC exclusive that I am interested in. It was more that I haven't even entertained the IDEA of playing Shift on a PC. I don't specifically know why, but for some reason I prefer playing games on consoles, and I was certainly a PC fanatic for oh, atleast 15 years. I can't think of a game that is coming out in the future that is PC only, and interests me. My PC pretty much acts as a file server unless I'm playing something like Fallout or BG or NWN's etc... welcome to the sad panda club- For Dreamcast Fanatics
oh pliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiz, let that be true!!!!- Need For Speed: Shift demo
Yes, you summed it pretty good...- Planescape: Torment Topic
You still saying the same, but you never gave enough reasoning, why any game with good gameplay and good writing can't become considered as an art masterpiece. Sorry but your reasoning "Cos' it's game ffs" does not cut it... Some books are, some movies are, there is absolutely no reason, why at some point in time an excellent game could be considered by renown art critics as a masterpiece of art...- Activision CEO wants to take all the fun out of making games
Most of us here know how NOT fun it is to be unemployed. Making profit makes jobs. Every company needs to make profit, and every public company, or private company with investors, are obligated to make as much profit as possible. In a situation where a great deal of money is invested up front, with no ROI until the product is shipped, things have to be kept lean and focused. That's the reality of the situation. We've laid of about 35% of our employees this year. Those of us remaining are picking up the responsibilities of those who left. I haven't had a day off this month. Nothing at work is fun right now, and I have to account for every dollar that is spent in my department. I have people I've never heard of before calling me every day asking if I can cut yet another 5% of my costs. I look at my people and wonder how I'm going to be able to meet my commitments if I have to let another one go. Money is everything...profit is everything. Without either, there is no product. The idea is to make the best product possible within the budget. When times are good, sometimes the budget can be expanded a bit. When times are bad. you have to justify every expense, and yes, the end result may be adversely affected. It's business, not art class. The people who put up money expect maximum return. Those investors interested in art and innovation, at the expense of return, are few and far between. I do not know how in the US, but in EU (to be more particular central europe) is IT the only industry where you have no problem to get employed even now (especialy the jobs where you can offer your IP - programmers, graphics, web-designers)... i got few friends who got sacked, and they found new job in IT within a week, max month... few of them with even better pay, and now they are happy that they got kicked out of the last job...- Planescape: Torment Topic
the only one distracting here is you, comparing videogames with normal games... they are both games sure but of totaly different kind... it's the same like you would said that movies can't be art because porn was never considered as an art... - What are you playing now?
