Pretty much a bombshell dropped on GOG. Four Final Fantasy games have been released few minutes ago. III, IV, VIII and IX https://www.gog.com/en/promo/final_fantasy -
I have started after 7 years or so the 2nd part of the incomplete trilogy of Celestian Tales. Simple and easy going RPG, which unfortunately not sold enough to satisfy the new owner of the studio, so with high probability, the third part will never be released, which is a shame, as it is one of the rare Indonesian games. Anyway for now, the game is fine, with lot of dialogues, which are sometimes funny Only had one more challenging fight for now, but I started it on Normal Difficulty. For now the only thing which bothers me, is that the devs removed the Story Log, which was part of the first game, so I have to be sure to play it without bigger breaks, to not forget the plot 💽

Oh Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Season 2 released yesterday, with QoL and balance changes implemented as well. From first impressions it seems, that from top4 cast (Hokutomaru, Hotaru, Kain, Marco) was Kain nerfsmacked the most, but it still seems that Hokutomaru will still be in Top Tier. Some people are saying, the he will be the strongest character in S2, but most of the S1 lower tier character did not get fully tested yet. My main Terry was slightly buffed, but I am mostly curious, how SNK treated Tizoc, who was the undisputed worst S1 character.

Oh yeah, the trailer is terribly. Thankfully I learned not to judge the content of the games, by content of trailers 😄 Still one of the most awful trailers in FGC, if not in gaming in general 😄 Anyway one of the mysterious characters is most likely Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star, which should print money for SNK. The other one? Looking at SNK's current track record, it will be Magnus Carlsen 😄

I have finished today late in the night the hardest MKvsDCU Kombo Challenge, Shang Tsung. As before, I have used the feature of my controller to program actions. The paradox of this challenge is, that 8 out of 10 challenges, are not that hard, but challenge nr.7 and 9 are crazy hard as ****, even when not counting the occasional game latency. It took me 3 hours to program the 8 easier challenges, and another 3 hours to program these two crazy one. For now 4 out of 22 challenges are completed. 😮💨

I think I went full indie with occasional Japanese AA somewhere after my disappointment with Final Fantasy 15, and I am pretty glad I did that. I bought also few AAA games as well after that period, but only after they got on GOG, which meant pretty much 85%+ discount. Saved me a lot of money to control my impulse buying that way, and I still have backlog worth at least 5 years, if I stopped purchasing stuff altogether.

And third Kombo Challenge finished in MKvsDCU. This time Sonya. And it was pain in the ass trying to figure out the patterns to program the controller, as almost every combo had a pro-move, which made the search for exact frames more time-consuming. It took me almost 5 hours to program my controller and it was far from perfect. Next in line is Shang Tsung, which has from the roster the lowest number of players who were able to perform all of his combos. So I expect to spend as much time on him as on Sonya 🫣.
Goal 9/2025 achieved December 31, 17:45 – Finally, I was able to have few hours long session for finishing XCOM: Enemy Unknown from GOG. I wanted to finish few more achievements before finishing the game (Including one rare for mind-controlling an Ethereal), so I have postponed the last mission for a while. Before the last mission. After I have filled out all of my check-boxes and some crafting, I've entered the Gollop Chamber with one of my Psionic trained soldiers. The contact with the Hive Mind was successful and I've entered the Temple Ship. With that I have also unlocked last Slingshot DLC achievement, as one member of my party was Shaojie Zhang, whom I've befriended long time ago in "Low Places". The last mission felt a little bit easier than some of the basic missions. Maybe due to me trying to be as cautious as possible. The game as a whole was real gem for me and worth the time spent on it, although I had my "reservations" about the alien spawn mechanic. As it was my first playthrough, I've made many mistakes, which cost me few soldiers, but on Normal difficulty it was manageable to redeem them. 45 hours in total. Not much time this year to play a lot of games, so hopefully a little bit more time will be available next year
It is said, that GOG in 2025 had a very positive year considering the revenue, although 2024 was pretty bad. That being said, going private might be a good step for them, as a lot of original older GOG customers, have heavily criticized some of the newer service changes based on the corporate decisions of their Mother company. Some of the even completely left the service (ergo the 2024 financial results of GOG).
I Think It will have to wait a little bit in my backlog. I am a little bit busy IRL last few months, and my current primary gaming goal is to finish my last two owned Soulborne games, before I turn 50 and still have some reflexes 😅 I have nit started them yet though, so my plans might be still subject to change 😂

Goal nr. 8/2025 December 12, 22:45 – After spending to much time at work and alternating between X-COM reboot and new Fatal Fury, I have decided to give a try to another easygoing game. I had picked some time ago Hero of the Kingdom II during GOG giveaway, so this was the next logical choice for me to play. It expanded a little bit more on the first game, made some quests a little bit longer and harder to notice some details. It also made a little bit harder to earn money and with that all achievements. At some point I have though, that I have messed up, but luckily, then I have noticed three NPCs, which with a little bit of effort offered a decent earning method. In the end, it took just a little bit over 9 hours to 100% the game.
Just to be sure, is this for Grounded 1 or 2, so I can move the thread into appropriate part of the forums if needed?
If anyone still does not own Total War games, the first 4 have been released on GOG.
