  1. And I have seen revie praise ship battles as tasteful and best addition to the game. *shrug* to be honest reviews seem to say things completely contrary to each other.
  2. I won’t lie, save import have issues is a bad idea opening card, especially, that Eders background or missing Vela are one of the first things you will notice. About 3 or 4 hours in and these are the only problems I have run into so far. All things considered Eder having a wrong one line and wrong item isn’t a meaningful problem for me (if I had Vella I would be more upset) but it’s a bad first impression. 10 minutes into the game, I was alt-tabbing and reporting a major bug. Giving a warning review on steam feels like a fair move. At the same time I kinda accepted at this point that a major, big release will come with its share of problems. Rule of thumb - don’t play game at launch if you want the best experience. Good think that Obs is at work fixing the issues. Hopefully the hot fix will arrive sooner than later.
  3. From yesterday: Thread:https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/97726-scavanger-hunt/?hl=hunt
  4. There is no spell memorization in Deadfire. Spellcasters, including wizards, learn spells in similar way other classes gain abilities - you spend an ability point during lvl up, to pick spells your caster will be able to cast. You want be able to “learn” all spells - pick wisely. If you are not satisfied with your spell selection, you can go to nearest tavern and for a fee respec your wizard (lvl up again all the way from lvl 1). Those spells that you learn will form a backbone of your wizard - he will always be able to cast them. Grimoires are used to expand your spell repertoire. You can’t edit Grimoires - that means, that sometimes their content will be less than ideal. Each Grimoire contains 2 spells per spell level. If you have a Grimoire equipped and it contains spells you didn’t “learn” and they are from a school you are able to cast (in case of Aloth this is not a concern) they will be added to your repertoire of spells. Different Grimoires contain different spells and you can switch between them mid combat - put potential Grimoires into quick access slot in your inventory. It takes couple seconds after switching Grimoires, before you are able to cast again. [note: in the Digsite you should encounter skeletal mage, whose Grimoire you can use. Experiment with it and Aloth’s one]. If Grimoire contains a spell you already “learned” or it contains a spell from school you are not allowed to cast (in case you use a wizard with a subclass) those spells will do nothing for you. You can cast up to 2 spells per spell level, depending on your character lvl. You can greatly increase an effectiveness of one spell by using empower, or you can replenish half of your resources using empower on yourself. All spells come with certain cast time and recovery - time you spend before and after casting spells. During the cast time you can get interrupted, which will cancel the casting AND consume the spell resource. Recovery is a time that your character will require before taking another action, be it attack or casting another spell.
  5. Can confirm that gog overlay doesn’t work. I had no issues with using regular printscreen though (unlike beta4). I left setting s as they were, and if i remember well it’s set on borderless window.
  6. I don’t think it’s possible to simply import assets from PoE2 to PoE1. A question about potential “enhanced edition” of PoE1 in vain of Tutu mod for BG has been expressed multiple times, and the answer was purely speculative: “that would take significant resources but would be very very cool”.
  7. Interesting. Can’t confirm, I use keyboard for easier and more reliable selection.
  8. From my experience PoE1 takes about 80 hours to complete - I am a fairly thorough player, doing every quest and at least skimming through all the books I can find. I am sure you can rush through it in much less, that that kinda defeating the point of the excercise. I would say go for PoE1 first. It will certainly give more context to Deadfire (to be honest from the little I played of it, I think it would be far less impactful without already established connection). While Deadfire so far seems to be a better, more expensive title, PoE1 is packed and finish. Giving Deadfire time to mature will only enhance your first experience with it. Perhaps, by the time you are ready at least some of the DLC will be out as well.
  9. They WANT you to think that there are only 4 of them. Yeah, creating a connection between ship2ship and boarding would be my no. 1 priority in improving the system. Right now you want to do one or the other. Preferably, both could be combined (weaken a really tough crew and finish them off in melee combat).
  10. Why? DM can be anyone. Personally I really like that it’s not a standard narrator. I don’t mind the “male booming old voice” stereotype but this one is fresh, and the actress does a really great job with the material. I expected to be annoyed by it but I just lean back and enjoy the performance. No need to rush the playthrough. Maybe Josh has something for young female narration: https://youtu.be/KA_PFYVnZWY
  11. When uninstalling game via gog it asks you if you want to remove settings and saves.
  12. I've started with a potd wizard, and I'm really tempted to start over with a different class for that reason. I do not have any complaints about the effectiveness of the wizard. It's doing fine. Merely the fun of the wizard. It's maddeningly stifling not being able to pick your own spell combinations, rather than be limited to the few you learn + what the grimoire has picked for you, minus any overlap. It's destroyed one of the primary enjoyments of the class, a tradition going all the way back to pen and paper. Long term thinking is gone too, due to the instant replenishing of spells after each combat, "action" style. Instant gratification central. Don't get me wrong: the Deadfire world looks amazing, the art is unreasonably beautiful, the game is immersive, and the writing, humor, and voice acting are top tier. But oh man am I not happy with wizards. Probably going to restart with a different class and hope for an eventual fix or community mod. There has been plenty of discussion about it. Where I stand is following: The resource management and long term planning/thinking is great. However, you need the overall structure of the game to support that. Difficulty which would force you to use spells. Dungeons from which you can't return and demand from you to manage your resources well. I see the per-encounter system from PoE1 and IE games as an adopted system from tabletops, which never found it place in its computer counterparts. Resting is never limited to you, so mismanaging your resources wastes your time in the worst case. Whatever, strategic value the old system provided was imaginary or result of self imposed limitations by players. None of those are good designs. I would welcome an RPG which would focus on this aspect of gameplay (standalone adventure in White That Wends focuing on survival - go for it Obs!), in an RPG with structure like PoE this per-rest thing was nothing more than annoyance, which in some extreme cases had negative impact on players enjoyment: with rest spamming or barely using spells (me being in the 2nd group). The new system to me seems more consistant and faithful to the rest of the game and design. But as Dude would say: https://youtu.be/pWdd6_ZxX8c
  13. Another way could be the import of steam games into gog. For a while gog allowed to import certain titles from steam - why not do the same for gog?
  14. As mentioned before. As wizardy „memorize” repertoire of spells when lvling up, Grimoires are there to expand their repertoire and ar intended to be swapped around.
  15. Ah! Ok, thanks everyone. I didnt pick it, but as i already encountered import issues, i assumed it to be another one. I suppose Eder’s answer is the reactivity not question itself.
  16. I dont think so, and it was signed as "PoE1" reactivity. Some of those a vague, but my impression was that we never met. At least at this moment. Game seems to switch between recognizing reactivity and getting it wrong (as with the Helya example earlier). There was one reference to Durance, which might have been wrong/might have been right - it was vague enough to go both ways.
  17. Also installing all the small DLC via GOG has been a proper pain in the ass. Probably should have download installer and instal them manually. Using Galaxy client meant checking if all the game files are there before installing each thing. Took a while...
  18. Dunno. Here is a bug report thread on which I report every import bug I encounter. There was one reference to Durance, which to be honest, I am not sure if it was correct or not... could be both ways. If someone would tell me that importing a save doesn't work at all I would believe. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/97592-thats-not-what-happened/?do=findComment&comment=2009653
  19. except it also functions like an off hand saber with fire attack. I reported it in bug to see if its intentional.
  20. I like the endurance/health system, but to my surprise I am not missing it at all. I don't feel it added much to the game. It makes sense to remove it, as spells per rest were removed as well - in PoE1 health was melee character's source pool. In Deadfire all that matters is each encounter and how well you performed in it.
