  1. Another fellow living in China. I was looking in to buying it, but right now don't have the time to play it.
  2. Talking about that, is there not a mod to get rid of them and replace them with normal humans? I think having so many godlikes really makes them less interesting. OTOH, my main desire for the next game is less complicated item selection. Specially allowing effect stacking. Just make less powerful items overall to prevent great imbalance. I'm tired of having to check all items for overlapping enchantments every time I find something cool.
  3. That's quite informative. Perhaps I've simply been using hiravias incorrectly. A pity since I love the little bastard.
  4. I always thought the animal form was really weirdly balanced, I started of feeling overpowered, but by the end of the game, it really felt unnecessary next to the spells. Druids felt more like an alternative wizard by that point.
  5. They should have the animal form become stronger as it levels up and gain new abilities even if that means heavily restricting its inability to cast spells.
  6. Wow, that was quite aflame fest that I missed. Regarding the previous discussion, despite being a liberal and Considering that women by no means should limit themselves to only being mothers, I do consider that we should accept opposing opinions calmly. At most we can simply require that the off topic comments be moved to its own independent thread. Getting angry or personal seems unnecessary and counterproductive, as it makes us look like we simply can't handle independent thoughts. On the other hand I do like the concept of might being independent from physical size and gender. It makes it slightly more believable when I make my puny looking human to be stronger than an orc and it goes in line with the fantasy settings.
  7. I absolutely agree with your point that the main problem with items is lack of clarity. I made a thread about that before, but many posters pointed out that they enjoyed that level of obscurity. One of the things of the game that bothered me the most was how enchantment stacking worked. I could never simply pick an item that I liked and give it to the character that I wanted. I always had to look at all of the character items. See which other items would overlap with that one and then start switching characters items until I reached a situation in which all of my characters had the least amount of overlapping enchantments. I did that two or three times and theq got so bored by it that I decided simply not to use new items unless they were clearly much better than the ones I had already and even then I would not equip them immediately.
  8. walkthrough / translate / whatever - the point was that it wouldn't really do much beyond sending some players out of the game (though maybe I'm weird in having a desktop to game on and a laptop to browse the internet on). I also think that using real world languages would break us out of the fantasy world we're in. Your native language (or whatever you're playing in) doing for the 'common tongue' and other languages being con-langs works better for me. I also think that knowledge should come from within the game for gaming stuff. I'm roleplaying a character, not myself. There'll always be some stuff you might do better at with outside knowledge (e.g. "I've played this kind of game before so tactics will be easier for me".) but I don't think it should be something you can't learn by playing the game. You could gain the ability in game to understand the language. If you spoke the language you just wouldn't need to. There is no need to browse the web, unless you are too impatient to wait till you gain that ability.
  9. If it was historical medieval RPG Josh is dreaming about than sure. I prefer my fantasy to be fantasy. What would you do if you would play in Italian and spoke to Vailian? Have it in chinese? ) Another Latin language? French, Spanish or portuguese. Would not look out of place. Perhaps even latin.
  10. I dont think you can copy the text to a browser from the game. And if you are willing to take a picture of the text and then write it in a browser, what's the difference between that and using a walkthrough? Also, google translate doesn't do a good job with most languages, so its not like it would be any less of guess work, ALSO I think its cool when a game forces or gives the option to familiarize yourself with knowledge that is useful in the real world.
  11. It would be cool if they used real life languages and knowing the language would save you from having to learn the skill in game
  12. Gameplay complexity has nothing to do with the players' age. Complexity has something to do with willingness to invest time and effort into understanding something. A lot of people here got into IE games when they were younger and had much more free time. Now they are older, have a job, kids maybe ; but they play PoE for the nostalgia factor, and since they beat Baldu'rs Gate a million times, playing something like PoE doesn't require the same amount of intellectual investment and "risk taking" (as in, putting money in a game you might not like) as the average player. But the very same BG Veterans demographic probably wouldn't play other complex games they're less familiar with (say, Guilty Gear). Because they don't have anymore the amount of free time they had when they knew every single spell from the DnD rulebooks. That's the niche game curse. You just don't suddenly become invested in a demanding genre at 40. It takes decades of investment and passion to build such a demographic. I agree. Its very time related. I used to have be able to have an amazing time with large complex games when I was a teenager. Now I always have the feeling that i am negletiing some sort of responsibility when i play them, The only games I play right now are short and action oriented, specially if i can play with friends. Games that require minimal time investment and provide some simple escapism or the opportunity to share time with people i like. I still played this game and will play the sequel simply because baldurs gate 2 (and an obscure pretty bad game called "azure dreams") were basically my childhood. But even the way I play the game has changed. No more long playing sessions. Am I the only one who plays PoE because it's a good game and I enjoy it, and not because it's similar to a game I played 20 years ago? I also think its good and I enjoyed it. But i would have never bought such a long game if i didnt know it was very similar to the one i enjoyed when i was a kid. I have lots of things to spend my time on. And lately for me gaming is a low priority. Long games for me already seem quite daunting. So the fact that i knew exactly what i was getting in to really made the choice simpler.

  14. For a crit I wouldn't make the screen red. Maybe some blood from the character, an easy to identify animation, something that transmit the impression of more damage or a hit that has not been properly blocked or defended.
  15. Was anybody else sort of disappointed with POE combat animations. Specially melee combat. I heard developers mentioning there will be more animators working in POE2, but I I haven't heard that they will focus on combat. I would like it to feel more weighty and physical and with more leg movement (fighters seem quite static). It would have been good if blows landed with strength pushing fighter backs, if weapons would crash against shields, dodging was more dynamic and realiric, fighter would sometimes looses balance and fall or recover at last time. Also critical hits could be improved. Nothing to exagerated, just piercing and slashing weapons entering the enemy flesh, impact weapons landing in the head or another vulnerable part directly and with weight. I don't know what other people think about it.
  16. For me the biggest issue with Pillars is not related to gameplay. Its the terrible loading times. I have a laptop with a relatively slow hard drive and its really an issue that took a lot of the enjoyment from me. I will buy an ssd soon and they say they will adress the loading times. I hope they do it very well.
  17. I prefer a more realistic and less exxagerated style of armor, I guess its a matter of personal preference.
  18. yes combat animations was quite monotonous in then first game. maybe things will improve now
  19. I get there are balance and implementation issues. thats why I think it won't be implemented. but it does seem tempting to think about. imaging blinding someone to steal from him, kill enemies by surprisingly melting the ice where they stand, charm a judge to change.a veredict, escaping jail by magically switching places with the guard.
  20. well as I said, I like to be forced in to variety and change, I don't think about how other people play. the word hate refers to how being eased in to being able to keep my weapon makes me feel.
  21. to clear things up a little bit. I'm currently writing from a south east asia small town. internet is terrible and phone touch screen is broken. in am perfectly aware of the many spelling and grammar mistakes I am making, but I rather not the spend the massive amount of time I need to correct them.
  22. regarding the part of furious resistance, let's not exaggerate. we are discussing a computer game. if we cannor make a calm discussion of this, then what's left for important issues?
