  1. If I wanted to RP a pirate, I'd boot up Black Flag.
  2. But I'm here too, to balance the scales! Yay me. @Op You've barely seen anything this game has to offer. If you feel like quitting at this point, then crpg are probably not your cup of tea.
  3. Marketing is something that is generally taken care of by the publisher. It's often frowned upon if the developers try to do it themselves after signing a publisher contract. So if a game has weak marketing, it's almost always publisher's fault. And let's say it, this game was published by nobodies.
  4. Uhh other than the multi-hit behaviour, does this character actually shoot Death Rings and Fireballs with each shot? That sounds kinda bonkers.
  5. When it comes to narrative of side-quests, sure, maybe it does. But the reactivity is a whole different world. Strategically using weather effects with your spells, and objects located on the battlefield, is something Deadfire will never have. In Deadfire every fight is chug pots, eat food, buff up, tank & spank. Also killing enemies by throwing a chest at them is hilarious.
  6. Bull. Have you met Jubilost? :D Please, if this guy was in Deadfire, Eder would at least have some competition.
  7. Eh, it's hard to discuss here because it's a non-spoiler part of the forum, but basically halfway through the game you lose any reason to continue chasing a giant statue. Tbh Eothas seems like a chill guy. Not to mention I'm pretty sure a God who can kill you with a snap of her fingers could find a more efficient way of handling this situation than sending you after him. Also the ending gives heavy Mass Effect 3 vibes. A proper antagonist would solve that.
  8. There is literally no antagonist in this game. That's horrible from an RPG perspective. The presence of Thaos was one of the reasons why Pillars 1 had a much better story. I can't image BG2 without Irenicus. And the list goes on. Every protagonist needs an antagonist.
  9. And the concept of those scripts are great. It adds another layer of control that is delightful to plan and execute. Did you know that the best RPG in the world, Dragon Age Origins, also has scripts? It does! It also has no Pallegina or other vailians. It has an Oghren. And a dog! Best game ever, I tell you. You should try Final Fantasy 12.
  10. Oh, about Valerie, this guy nailed it quite well. https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder_Kingmaker/comments/a16nzj/valerie_the_angel_of_death/
  11. Thing is, reducing number of party members to cut down on micromanagement doesn't make much sense in Deadfire, because many characters can be auto-piloted on scripts alone.
  12. No matter what you choose, make sure to name them Tank and Spank.
  13. Valerie is like.. "I'm so pretty, everyone want me, get lost peeps, I'm so sad!" Then she's like.. "I'm no longer pretty, nobody adores me, what the hell, I'm so sad!" Not to mention they could've used a bit better portrait for her, because her incredible in-game beauty feels severly overstated. She behaves like she's 12. As for the build, all you need to do is add Thug levels and grab Dazzling Display + Persuasion skill focus. This is the best way to use her Charisma. You can then improve her by dipping a little into other classes, like Monk (for crane style) or Stalwart Defender (nice level 1 bonuses). She's actually a pretty strong character if build properly.
  14. Butthurt I wasted $60 :/ Then get a refund. Unless you actually played a lot and you can't do that, in which case how is that money wasted?
  15. Xoti is annoying. Her personality is plain dumb. Her zealotry is dangerous. I feel she should be put down, not dragged around. I cringe each time she starts talking. Shut up and eat your souls, Xoti. Yea seems you have same problems with Xoti and Valerie as me - lol. If someone is just plain dumb, i cant stand them. Btw Jaethal is perfect, she heals herself great, she resist so many things, and even if she gets downed, its no biggie, she just stands up nothing wrong. You can give your main healer some harm or injury spells, just in case to help her, but its not that needed. She actually survives way more than Harrim. Some say put heavy armor on her, but there is no point, she has lot of DEX. I specced her all those teamwork feats, she gets bonuses even if noone else has them. Very valuable party member. That is assuming you keep her as an Inquisitor, which I don't. I multiclass her with pet Barbarian focus.
  16. The dating options are good, after I started a relationship with Octavia, I could ask her for sex each time I talked to her and she never said no. I approve of the design. It's hard to say that one game has better companions than the other. It depends. Like for example, imo Eder was a superstar of Deadfire and I'd even risk stating that no companions in Kingmaker are as good as him. For KM, I've found Jubilost and Jaethal to be most memorable, even though I could hardly justify using the latter in my party because she's uh, hard to heal. On the other side of spectrum you have terribad companions like Xoti or Valerie. So yeah, imo this should be discussed on a per-character basis.
  17. He's not Sonic anymore tho. He's a SquirrelMage now!
  18. Last thing I've heard it that it's scheduled for release a month after Half-Life 3.
  19. Force players to spend more time with the game, pretty much. Some games (like FFT0) even make content locked behind a NG+, so you HAVE to play at least twice to see everything. From a logistical / design point of view, I actually wonder what this means. I'm not saying they're wrong, of course, but on the surface it doesn't look like the claim is valid, which is precisely why I'd like to know the reasoning behind it. It means a designer will have to sit down and figure out how to incorporate the sixth character without messing up the current UI. And if the game was programmed with 5 characters in mind, adding another would mean having to rewrite a ton of code. Then again, Obs likes to rewrite their own games so who knows :>
  20. EDIT: ok don't mind me I get it now.
  21. It's bigger then Deadfire No real good way to estimate the time based on my playthroughs because the load times were terrible and I had a million bugs that I had to load older saves or wait for patches to get around Then Deadfire what? Is this a joke I'm missing? But I agree that it's very hard to estimate, I have clocked ~150h in both games, so I'd say that if you want to do everything possible, they are very similar. Kingmaker will probably come out on top simply because you "waste" time with kingdom management, that adds additional hours of playtime.
  22. Well, I think alot of people on a forum such as this tend to think: "If a game is overly popular that it can't be as good as my personal favorite game that didn't recieve so much attention from the critically acclaimed masses. Every AAA is COD!" While Pillars is one of my personal favorites, I'd have to agree with Obsidian that Witcher 3 is the better game. There's alot more love, sweat and tears put into Witcher 3 and that easily shows. For years into the future, people will know the name of Geralt while nobody will know any of Pillars characters, hell, nobody really even knows who Minsc and Boo is. CDPR basically created a legacy, that's hard for any Crpg developer to compete with in itself. But The Watcher is such a memorable name! Fun fact, CDP (before they were "red") did a full VO localization for both Baldur's Gate titles. They hired best actors in the industry at the time. To this day, this is the best polish localization ever. This made BG explosively popular in Poland. So yeah, Geralt's home country will not forget its mentally challenged Ranger and his furry sidekick.
  23. Level 17, maybe 18 if you're Dora the Explorer, is max you will get with a full party. There isn't enough XP to hit the level cap. Don't put kingdom on Auto guys. AI will never build craftsman buildings, which means you will never be able to complete their quests. I think the latest patch added "effortless" kingdom management? Check it out. I've no exp with it yet cause I'm waiting for the incoming story DLC... TO RESTART >>AGAIN<< FML...
  24. It's been like that since the game launcher. I always assumed it was a feature. A terrible feature, but still ;p
  25. This is probably the first time ever I see someone butthurt over the use of the word "butthurt". The internet is a strange place.
