I'm calling it quits

Quits? bye bye! -
Maybe they are what they are because the devs are operating under the concept that there are no bad builds and want to show that off for those who might be interested while allowing those who dance to a different drummer to go to the adventurers hall and make their party exactly as they wish - seems like a win win to me - well except that the adventurer builds will only have what personality their makers imagine - seems a fair trade off...

In Baldur's Gate games, you had to actively search for traps, but searching for hidden doors was automatic and continuous. And in BG games unless you used an auto-pause you would discover the trap just as you stepped on it because the mechanic scanned once every six seconds and you were never moving slow enough to keep from over-stepping that time frame - that's not much of an issue with stealth and scout combined (well perhaps it is with the silly run-stealth)

What race/class did you pick?

Wood elf cipher (diplomat - rogue replacement) - 12/8/10/16/18/15 - most damage done in party (so far) and been knocked out the most as well - obviously a well balanced build. (just got to Defiance Bay level 4) -
So is this game actually good?
wanderon replied to rkade8583's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I pledged about 3 times what I might have spent on a single copy for 2 copies - beta access and some fluff and would cheerfully do so again to get another game of this style & quality - the game exceeded my original expectations on almost every level! -

The No Bad Choices Thread
wanderon replied to PrimeJunta's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think the in-game backers have contacted Josh and demanded an upgrade in combat prowess and a back up disappearing act when health reaches low levels for the next patch - get your hats while you can! -
Ciphers failing to cast?

perhaps he was interrupted? in which case he fails to cast but doesn't lose his spell or focus -
Map Markers ?
wanderon replied to Cas1's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I have notes reminding me where there are camping supplies that did not fit in inventory. at least the markers only display text if you mouse over them (in case you want to remain in the dark and find out what it is by going to it) Of course that assumes you have the self control to not mouse over it... -
It was my understanding the regular box set (non-collector) were to ship with discs on a later date - it has only been a week since release - I suspect all is not lost quite yet. It is also my understanding we will recieve an email from Paradox when they ship - and because it comes from Paradox we may need to check junk/spam folder for it - I have not yet rec'd this so I assume it has not yet shipped.

Perhaps it's becuase this is their forum because once they post something here they have to follow up and continue to discuss as people reply to their posts - since this IS the official forum - next they are spending all day jacking jaws with the masses and no work is getting done. So when you paid 15K for that car and were unhappy with the way the ash tray was left out do the Ford or Chevy or even BMW forums have the lead designer of the project coming on to explain why this was done? Think about it...

This was my expectation. I did try to follow the developer commentary as much as possible, but I think I missed the part where they overturned this decision. I can't help but feel that it would have been better with the original design. Perhaps they were worried about slaughtering too many sacred cows? I would suspect it was about compromise and balance - personally I think the current system is fine The current system is fine, for sure, but we're talking about a company that promised they were going to produce a new robust RPG system that aspires to fix the problems that plague the genre (D&D being the most prominent). Really, I feel like the only major difference between PoE and D&D is the way primary attributes work. I think you are a bit confused about promises - what was promised was not the bright new day of RPGs totally reworked from games gone by it was to create a spiritual successor to some of the most popular RPGs of the past - the IE games -
