  1. Or you can bump up your Mechanics and roll with whatever you find, if you don't want to bother searching for secrets. It doesn't defeat the purpose of the change, the purpose is exactly to allow people who cba searching but have some Mechanics to find some stuff, while reserving other secrets for those who actually want to search for them. I do want to find secrets, everybody does. The issue is that this is accomplished, as everyone knows, by simply running around everywhere in scouting mode. Does this add anything challenging or interesting to the game whatsoever? No. It does nothing but waste YOUR time by slowing the party down. Does wasting player time for absolutely no reason sound like an awesome mechanic to you? Yes it's one of the damn role playing things - you know that you have to be moving slowly and paying close attention to see things that are HIDDEN specificly so that others don't see them normally. Why they would want to incorporate any role playing crap in a role playing game is of course anyones guess.
  2. Is there any way to edit notes in the journal other than the backspace? I make a note about leftover camp gear I couldn't carry (listing different places in the same note) but when I go back to pick it up there's no way to remove just the one (without backspacing everything noted after that and rewriting it). I suppose I could make a different note for each place but that seems a bit excessive.
  3. It would make sense that if both use mechanics skill that you would be able to discover either (provided your skill was 4 levels higher than the trap or secrets setting)
  4. Get their snail mail address and send them an anonymous money order with no return address (so they can't return it to you)
  5. My rogue has been using Disappointer from the beginning without adding any enchantments (yet) and I've been quite amazed at the general lack of disappointment it has brought thus far.
  6. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=WYSIWYG Yes why on earth would you want to actually converse with other humans about things that are posted on a forum when you can just avoid conversation all together and type into google - because you know interaction with others of your species is just so outdated today when we have the internet at our disposal - smh Yeah, because looking up an acronym you don't know is an absolutely terrible lifechoice... Yeah but the point is it IS a choice and not one you should be demeaned for if you choose to ask the real people who may have used it instead.
  7. AFAIK perception has no effect on discovering traps and hidden items - both are under mechanics - perception is only useful in that regards in conversations & scripted events I believe.
  8. Never paid much attention to how exp was divided - is it actually a benefit to smaller parties (same amount distributed between fewer members) ?

  10. Yeah I got up to get a snack the other day and the game finished itself before I got back - then it uninstalled itself - then it went online and found a new game and finished that one too - by the gods I love playing these games...
  11. Huh? Thats how my game works - no fog after exploring - yours comes back??
  12. The answer is no in fact the exploration including the fog of war mechanic that keeps me from scrolling over the map like a drone to pinpoint all the trouble spots ahead of time in order to get an unfair advantage over the enemy is my favorite part of the game - I love that I can choose between scouting and just marching into whatever is out there and I was disappointed BG2 had much less of it than BG1 even if many BG1 maps had only a few minor encounters.
  13. I think I've decided on an Island Aumaua rogue - balanced stats (16/8/14/14/14/12) - He is currently wielding - Disappointer Pistol (opening volley) - hunters bow (if he stays in ranged mode) - Dagger or Spear & hatchet (melee option) - level 3 now so far took Blinding Strike, Crippling Strike, & Marksman - probably going to take Ruffian and adjust weapon slots accordingly. Wanted a character who could mix ranged and melee based on situation. Got some more dialogue choices I had not seen before in the prologue looks like I am going to have MANY speech options for this boy! - I am also very glad I turned off notifications of different dialogue options etc - surprises are nice! I would turn on expert mode but my memory sucks and I would wander all over the map just trying to return to someplace I had already been - I just try to use the markers sparingly instead and generally not until I've cleared the whole map. Quite surprised how effective this terrible pistol has been early on too! (Perhaps because we are playing on normal) We have gathered Aloth and Eder and will pick up Durance next - enemies beware!
  14. I did have some fun fooling with a couple monk builds in the beta but I'm still a long way from wanting one as my main PC
  15. Just played a dwarf rogue through the prologue where we encountered some new twists I had not seen before (Normal / ToI)- Picked up Aloth and Eder and cleared Valenwood - all level 3 currently I went with fairly balanced stats (15/8/15/14/14/12) weapon focus peasant - hunters bow and spear/hatchet atm He got plenty of dialoge options - going to build another Barbarian tomorrow and take him through the same areas and decide which I like best I think. What does everyone like for weapon style and choices for Barb?
  16. Just walked a Fire-godlike Barbarian through the prologue (normal/ ToI) - I was liking it until I got to the last big spider - finally dropped endurance below 50% to get the Battle-forged damage and from that point his endurance dropped like a stone (stats = 18/10/10/13/14/13). I've heard this gets better after level 5-ish and I suppose I could put a sword & board in one slot for him to switch to at that point and let the carnage/burn work - He is still in scale armor atm also and I suspect I'll be putting him in plate or breastplate ASAP so there's some hope for him yet altho I hate giving up the helm slot
  17. Decided to set prior games aside for now - I have a few starts none of which has gone past Chapter 2 none has gone beyond level 3-ish of Endless Paths - so please post NO SPOILERS!!!! or if you absolutely must post one use spoiler tags for it. Here's the deal - I've decided this run will be one of the three classes not covered by Obsidian companions so either Barbarian, Rogue, or Monk and my preference is probably in that order (I have NEVER played a monk for any significant length of time in any RPG altho I did fool with one in the BB a little) First preference is full party of Obsidian companions altho I might consider adding a custom rogue if my PC can't handle locks/traps. PC should be built for very good RP options (dialoge choices) No blatant exploits Probably play on Normal maybe with ToI &/or expert.
  18. I hate people that hate their computers.. You can avoid the save by hitting the computer repeatedly with a 10 lb barbell as well - a 5lb works also but may take longer based on your accuracy modifier. Another way around this is to avoid checking the ToI choice when starting a new game...
  19. So mechanics effects the accuracy of set traps? Do we have any numbers for that? I always assumed mechanics would only effect whether or not the trap could be set - not how likely it was to hit/go off.??
  20. No email from Paradox - no (non-collectors) CDs - last I heard the discs were to be made once Patch 104 was done. - maybe they are making them one at a time.
  21. Wait! You wanted 100% of achievements? .... Should have been a backer...
