The Chanter....huh?
wanderon replied to qwert_44643's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You can rearrange his chants to suit what you think will best help your group - I start with party buff chants usually two seperate ones once each then put several of the enemy debuff chant in a row then back to party buffs etc. so he buffs then debuffs for a while then buffs again hopefully the debuffing will take hold when the battle needs it - you also have to keep in mind what the radius of his chants are and place him where they will effect those you wish to effect. If you have him hanging way back and using his gun his chants aren't going to do much for you. (Altho I have never really looked into exactly how big his AoE is myself ) -
...what? You're going to have to be a bit clearer on that one. Minor spoilers re: Maerwald ahead... Many times (not always?) when I use a door the party formation is backwards when I exit the other side - everyone is facing the proper direction (away from the door) but the characters who should be to the rear of the formation are in front and the ones that should be in front are to the rear - so its as if the whole formation were properly spaced if they were facing the door they just came through - but they are facing away from the door so the formation is backwards 3...1 > 1...3 4...2 > 2...4 One place I seem to recall it always happening is entering the room to meet Maerwald This is of course a scripted event not just using a door and perhaps that's the only time it happens (during a scripted event) but I seem to recall it happening at non-scripted events as well - but my memory is somewhat .... twisted... It is a particular PITA in that specific situation as the party is stuck in a narrow area between the table on the left and whatever is on the right side of the party so if the casters are in front and tanks to the rear with no room to pass one another you spend the first critical seconds of the battle trying to get them rearranged - it's also a bit annoying that apparently the table has an invisible shield that prevents you from casting a spell over it (you have to get past it entirely before you can target Maerwald & Co.)

How do I drop stuff?
wanderon replied to Night Driver's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
For those concerned with the stash being infinite - well it's probably not - I mean there are only a finite number of items in the game right? so placing an infinite number in your stash is not possible....there don't you feel better now? If that still doesn't work for you then I suppose you could add unwanted items to any container you find (like BG) - of course you would have to move them from your stash to your inventory first (I think) which would be a hassle... -
Potions cause inactivity(bug?)
wanderon replied to Syrieal's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
IIRC someone posted about a bug in 1.06 that causes auto-attack to stop (more or less randomly??) - I have experienced this but rarely use potions so cannot link my experience to potion use. -
Difficulty level
wanderon replied to Macrae's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There's a long-standing bug relating to difficulty and the number of placed opponents. You probably ran into that one, because Normal should not have been nerfed in 1.06, afaik. The bug has been hard to pin down and was still around as late as 1.05, and I'm not sure if they've managed to resolve it yet. Had not heard that - interesting - oddly enough the same general thing with difficulty happened when I played the beta - normal was quite difficult early on but eventually I ended up playing on hard and while many fights took longer to play out I did find myself being successful more often than not - maybe I'm just getting more familiar with the battles and mechanics - if this keeps up I may have try POTD- 77 replies

Brainstorming fun handicaps
wanderon replied to HoopleDoople's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No more than 1 stat under ten and no lower than 8 no more than one over 16 no higher than 18 play on hard or POTD Ironman. -
It is very nice just to be able to load the game and play on higher resolutions without a laundry list of mods that must be installed in proper order that may or may not still be supported etc... I found it and the IWD EE series well worth the small price myself while waiting for PoE to launch. Will likely grab the expansion when available just to see how they did. altho now that I think on it the IWD series may have been from GOG

Difficulty level
wanderon replied to Macrae's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Read two pages of this wondering why it sounded like these people had never played the game before I determined I was reading posts from July 2014 I started on normal found it fairly challenging but after 1.06 have moved up to hard as it appeared normal had been nerfed (fewer enemies for specific battles was what I noticed first) Now I am finding hard to be just a bit more challenging than normal was originally altho part of that is no doubt my familiarity with the first two chapters after restarting a dozen or more characters (and have only broken into chap 3 with one which I immediately set aside for now and made 3 more new ones )- 77 replies

I never saw random encounters as immersion breaking - I felt that they mostly added to the immersion by reminding you that it's a dangerous (attacks) or interesting (other encounters) world - to me the lack of any interactions or encounters traveling between maps is actually more immersion breaking especially with the long loading times.

How are you guys using food?
wanderon replied to Kirkibost's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
At this point I am still mostly ignoring food - could change but maybe not I rarely ever used anything other than health potions in IE games - I hoarded all the others though - had a couple barrels full in front of the Elf Song at games end. -
Reloading after combat
wanderon replied to Killabkilled's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
And the good news is you can leave the game running and go grab a snack while you wait for the reload animation to finish -

PLEASE make this game online
wanderon replied to XPerNX's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Depends on who is interpreting what's "enough" - that said of the three they have already officially crossed off console and online - that only leaves tablet but I suspect the game would have to be seriously reworked to accomplish that and even then is it really likely to make any sort of inroads into tablet gaming? Or is it just something that PC users might fool with when they were away from their PC. Frankly PC only seems to be working just fine so why change it at all. -
Why is this game so hard?
wanderon replied to Devious13's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Pretty sure the concept of making places that would kick your patootie if you went in too early available anyway was a conscious design decision. The only fights that scale with level are those related to the main questline - it's been said that 2/3 of the combat content is not in that category. If you go in expecting that and are willing to back off and return later if/when they are too tough it works fine (IMO). -

Call me crazy but I fail to see how anything on this list relates to PoE or apparently Obsidian either???? -

Is this is an argument against MP, or is it a statement simply saying "Playing several hours, once a week, makes the experience take longer"? Compare with any Multiplayer game out there, or even Singleplayer game. How far would you have gotten in Dragon Age using this method, in 6 months? Or in Witcher? Mass Effect? Diablo? Darklands? Wizardry? Etc. etc. Me and my friend got to Chapter 6 in Baldur's Gate in about 1~2 weeks time. Of course, we were only 2, you were 4. It was a comment relating to the two comments before it on the experience I had with the tacked on MP mode of the IE games and my overall reaction to it -

wanderon replied to XPerNX's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I was part of a group of four that played IWD MP every Sunday morning for several hours - it was a high RP game - any discussion had to be "in character" and at that time the only option we had for discussion was in game text so conversation was pretty slow - if more than one of us was missing we played an alternate adventure but that was pretty rare - when we finally gave the group up six months later we had only progressed to Dragons Eye - at that rate it would probably take several years to finish IWD and perhaps a decade to get through the expansions as well - -

wanderon replied to XPerNX's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Even if it cost 5 million I'd rather see them stick to their guns and spend that on SP - it's not like there aren't places where the SP game could be improved. -
So it's OK if the party is allowed to carry way more than they could legitimately carry without a horse and wagon but not to potentially carry an infinite amount without penalty which allows everyone to make their own choices about how much they want their party to use the stash instead of adding a penalty which would then result in them using some bottomless container or containers someplace to keep their extra stuff? I vote no...

How about letting the devs focus on making the very best single player CRPG the world has ever seen and not diluting the SP experience by wasting time and resources on adding a multiplayer option. Every dime spent on MP is a dime taken away from the SP side - this is a title with limited funding to begin with let the developers follow their vision of an awesome single player game and get your MP kicks someplace else. -
I think an all priest party including priests and druids might be fun PC + 2 - 3 adventurers and Durance and Hiravias - so the PC has someone to talk to that talks back occasionally. Maybe Druid PC - one each Eothas, Berath & Wael adventurers Durance (Magran) & Hiravias.

I think random encounters could be a great addition and I also think resting in the wilderness or other "unsafe" areas should come with the chance of a random attack possibly tied to stealth/survival for an opportunity to "discover" the encounter early and have the option of staying or sneaking away - perhaps also tied to providing specific camp areas where the random attack s would be avoided altogether.
