  1. It has been said that Part two will deal with the choices you made in part 1 - perhaps a good reason to play part 1 (and the main game) in at least a few different ways.
  2. Nothing new there # You want PoE2, but hate PoE1 Yeah, what's so odd about that? BG2 is also vastly superior to BG1... and the expansion for BG1 sucked so badly it was universally panned as "not-existing" by fans. There is a high chance PoE2 would become an actually good RPG if it had slightly higher budget and better tuned combat systems. I'd never replay BG1 either, and I do not hate PoE1, I just don't want to EVER replay it BG1 was a ground breaking RPG when it came out and there are in fact people who prefer the sensible lower level play of BG1 to BG2s over the top mageling free for all. I don't recall those of us who were there before ToTSC was released (as opposed to playing years later) panning anything of the sort - Durlags Tower was an epic adventure and so were other major portions of the expansion and I seem to recall that most people were pleased at the time that they could choose to play the expansion areas as they wished over the course of the campaign. Of course that was also a time when most RPG fans tended to do multiple playthroughs both to try out the numerous teams that could be put together with 25 companions available as well as different main classes and alignments and when they tired of that they could build their own teams in MP and then switch to SP - in fact some of us are STILL replaying the game on occasion just because we can. I have high hopes that this franchise may continue to grow in that manner as well.
  3. They are supposed to be working on that - same for patches altho they already have a download page for DVD patches but it only has 1.06 atm.
  4. I had to install both of the patches on GoG (don't think it matters what order you do it in though). When I only had the WM patch installed, I had a weird graphical glitch that prevented environments in the game from rendering properly. Everything looked pink, purple, and all psychedlic-like I've heard if you are on GOG and have WM it's important to install the 2.01 version FOR WM (located beneath it on the list) as opposed to the regular 2.01 located above it. I assume that is if you already have installed WM (before 2.01.)
  5. Thanks one of those suggests reapplying 2.01 (GoG direct) think I may give that a shot
  6. I was thinking that might be my problem with these games - I ran some of these games without adding the "in between" hot fixes (after 1.6) and then had to add 3 patches (2 hot fixes and 2.0) in order to install WM - I wonder if installing them one after another without opening and starting the game in between has caused some issues with the older saves. I couldn't seem to find a list of known issues on 2.1 yet but it's pretty new. There seemed to be some chanter oddities when I was doing soem dungeon levels yesterday (phantom not disappearing after a combat, chants not always resetting.
  7. For the first several patches I just deleted old games and started new ones since I am a chronic restarter anyway For the 2.0 and 2.01 patches I tried keeping some but when I try to run them I have issues - some large (blocks of pinkish purple "smoking" up about half a given area - and continuing when going to a new area), some smaller - unable to exit the game from the main menu screen (Start new game - continue - load - save etc) hitting exit opens the other menu screen (Game - graphics - sounds - etc) - hitting esc brings back the main menu screen. My question is should I just forget about trying to use older saves and just feed my inner restarter addictions by beginning new games?
  8. Dialogs ONLY use your PCs stats - always Scripted encounters MAY offer the opportunity to have other characters interact - I would hesitate to say ALWAYS though.
  9. Bye! It's been great seeing your well thought out, insightful, totally rational, bits of flotsam you scattered on the waters here - I'm sure you will be missed.
  10. I don't manage "food" at all, don't give it a second thought, actually...resting/camping restores 100% of health. I choose bonuses from the Inns I frequent overnight. It's possible that I might use a bit of food--if I happen to have some--in the heat of a battle for a near-dead character who has run out of potions--but I pretty much use health support from my Priest for 99% of my in-battle rejuvenation. I've always seen food in the game as entirely optional...and I opt out... Ditto for my playstyle - if you took all the food I've used since PoE released it would probably not feed a family of four for a weekend I do understand that others may do so though hence dropping my two coppers about using an IV as a replacement whenever I sleep in the wild.
  11. Generally speaking I am against most "auto" suggestions and this is no exception It doesn't seem to me as if the consumables were designed to become semi permanent auto-increases and IMO that is why they come with short durations and often with downsides once they wear off - I suspect the annoyance factor of using them constantly may have been a "feature" designed to limit their abuse and if so I support that. That's my two coppers anyway.
  12. And the radius it shows is the actual radius of the trigger? As I recall it always showed a circle when setting but the actual trigger area was much smaller than that.
  13. Same question - does it mean that healing done to you gains +15 or healing you do to others gains +15 (or both)
  14. This amulet provides +5 Reflex and +15 Healing done - not sure what "healing done" means. Does it mean the wearer adds +15 to healing he does to others or that any healing done to him adds +15? I'm guessing the latter.
  15. Yes one trap per character is a feature - no doubt in recognition of how easy it was to abuse traps in BG2
  16. I also use a mix of companions and mercenaries early on until I can fill the party out with companions - this also means I have extra people (the dismissed mercs) to handle jobs associated with the Keep. I started on Normal but moved up to Hard after a few restarts.
  17. Somehow I can't seem to wrap my head around the idea that having the opportunity to start a brand new game with new characters new choices new areas new companions new adventures is a bad thing...
  18. And they said from the very start that the expansion would be like Tales of The Sword Coast, so it was always assumed by most of us that it would be a mid-campaign expansion. The first year or so was both a huge ****storm and fan frenzy, from old school DnD'ers who hated the realtime to the many many many bugs and unbalanced feats and classes - and people just loving it despite the flaws.. But seeing as internet access wasn't quite as prevalent and going to forums weren't quite as common, the bad press basically came from the press. Who generally loved Bioware for the attempt and revival of the RPG genre. And back then you had to wait for a patch to come with your favorite magazine on a disc too. I have no doubt that in a year or so, with bugs ironed out and the expansions - people are gonna forget most of the flaws of PoE (like every other game you replay years after release). And praise it as a universally great game that was always flawless and well crafted, with love for the genre, unlike greedy modern games full of bugs and unbalanced mechanics! I vote we avoid the delay and just start this process now!
  19. I'm not much for looking under the hood myself - don't stress out on crunching the numbers I just fire the game up and play. As such I have been blissfully unaware of any bugs that don't interrupt my reverie and the game appears to play fine for me - I'm enjoying it and thus I think I'll just stay away from the bug forums and continue to do so...
  20. So does this mean that they abandoned the concept that was presented early on that only the main quest line would be scaled? So you could get your patootie kicked on some of the side content if you got there too early but the main quest would scale so both the completionist and the main quest only players would face appropriate difficulty for their level? Or was it that this was only done in relation to the main game and not the game + expansion?
  21. Simply go to your journal and write notes to yourself about where you left a stash of camp gear - then it will be happy to wait for your return to pick it up later when you need it.
  22. Neither will work at the moment with DVD version - they are working on a plan to release it to DVD users - supposed to be coming soon.
  23. Or even on Normal or Hard working with characters that have middle of the road stats vs min/max stats just feels better/more fun to me - nothing below 8 and rarely anything above 16 or so - just decent balanced stats.
