Well, they had to do something to justify the $40 cover price. If you want to play BG with four badly written new NPCs and an uglier UI, there are mods for that already. I don't recall paying $40 altho I would not have an issue doing so - I bought it specifically to be able to play right out of the box more or less, without a laundry list of mods that have to be installed in a particular order many of which that are no longer supported etc etc. I still have multiple copies of both BG & BG2 on disk (somewhere) so I certainly didn't "have to" buy it nor was I disappointed that I did. Yes it is certainly evident that it was not done by the original team but I enjoyed playing it none the less and may even go back to it at some point if I tire of PoE or just want a BG fix.

So far the only issue I had was that one CTD and I have logged quite a few hours since switching now. Still having Non-PoE issues tho especially viewing FB videos - they did work one day out of 5 so I guess it's something on their end and in some respects it's a blessing in disguise not being able to stop and view them

white march news

I'd just like there to be some reason to take a pet along other than to have it scampering around underfoot. -
I never had problems with it. They only thing that always confused me, was the Arena-Button. What the hell was that for? It seemed to do nothing. The Enhanced Edition actually did something with the button I think, but I never tried those so I don't really know. The original button MIGHT have referred to GameSpy, a lobby/matchmaking system that many games used back in the day instead of creating their own - players needed to install the optional GameSpy client and create a login for it to work. It went kaputt a few years back and took some older games' multiplayer mode with them. GameSpy only shipped with the North American release of Baldur's Gate so I have no idea if that is it. Enhanced edition did a LOT for MP making it available across multiple platforms (at the same time I believe)

I upgraded my desktop from Win 7 to win 10 but not my laptop (win 8.1) until I see how buggy it turns out. When I first switched PoE was unplayable (barely able to move characters) and I could barely get the mouse to click on quit from the opening screen of BGEE never mind play anything but I got the Geek squad on retainer and they got things going for my tech challenged self and both games were working more or less normally. Today however PoE crashed - I got the weird new blue screen with the message Your PC has encountered a problem and we just need to gather some information before you restart - with a percentage timer which eventually reaches 100% and then the screen just sits there until you manually turn the computer off and then restart it. (no Ctrl/alt/del available) Thats the only issue I've had with PoE so far. Any other brave souls that have switched yet? OT: Otherwise I have some issues with Netflix on the new Edge browser (picture stops but sound continues or getting kicked out) but it still works fine on Chrome and videos on my FB newsfeed no longer play at all regardless of browser.

MP was pretty atrocious in the IE games to begin with - as I recall it was more or less cobbled on as an afterthought near the end and I seriously doubt anyone would be satisfied with that sort of implementation for PoE MP. Still my biggest objection is there is never going to come a time when there is nothing left in the single player games that resources could be spent on to make the game better and that's exactly where I want those resources to go. Not every game on the planet needs an MP play option.

If you are finding normal difficulty a little too easy (not worth it to have cleric healing because fights over too quick) try ramping it up to hard - you will then only be able to carry 2 sets of camp gear and battles will have a few more enemies to make things a bit more challenging. I wouldn't worry about figuring out the whole endurance/healing thing myself - just consider the whole thing to be health and let the engine do the endurance/healing math behind the scenes - when health (endurance) hits 0 you are knocked out of the fight (unless you have some gear with 2nd chance on like Eder) but you will wake up when it's over and as you lose health over time (bar turns yellow or red) you better rest and get your health back. You can easily clear excess stuff out of each party members inventory to the "stash" (chest at the bottom of the screen) by using shift/click and then go back into the stash and pull items out as you need them - you can sell from either inventory or stash also. Welcome aboard!

Bad rogue, bad party, bad player?

One comment on gear - the reflex bonus for the cloak and the guantlets do not stack - this is shown on your character page (it will show as suppressed) when two items boost the same thing only the highest is applied. -
Eder losing weapon talent?

Just started a new game and he has Ruffian so I'd say unless it's a glitch that he's got it - then it must have been a glitch when he lost it -
Eder losing weapon talent?
wanderon replied to wanderon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I always pick him up asap and IIRC that is level 3 but unless they somehow changed it in the past week or two I have other games going where he has it (and I'm on a gog version so no auto updates) - I also have never yet used the option to direct companions from level 1 - I enjoy having companions that I didn't make myself - I wish there was an auto-level for companions so the devs that created them could continue making the choices throughout the game. -
Have a few questions

Re: number of quests in Defiance Bay - It's a BG2 thing - reminds me very much of Chap 2 in that game as well - suddenly ever Tom **** and Korgan has something for you to do and the way they talk it must be done immediately and many of them you only had to venture fairly close to them to be subject to a forced conversation describing their woes - perhaps my biggest gripe with that excellent game - of course much like this game almost none of them actually have any particular time frame associated with them so you could do them as you pleased (or not do them at all if you were ready to give up phat loot and experience) -
Ok I have started too many games to count and currently have 5 going (all in chap 1-2) and I've never noticed this happen before - we are in level 1 of Od Nua and Eder no longer has Ruffian weapon focus??? Went back to check some older saves but since I have mutiple games going I have been cutting down my save folders to just auto save, quick save, and last save on each which in this case were only a couple days apart and he didn't have Ruffian in any of them.

One of PoE stated goals was to remove the weapon restrictions per class that were so prevalent in D&D and to open all weapon choices to be viable regardless of class - thus opening the possibility of playing whatever sort of character you wish including a barbarian using stilettos or a mage wielding a pike if that's what you wish - why would they want to subvert that goal now? Choice is good - if you think stiletto for Barbarian is silly - then don't play one - don't ask the devs to enforce your preferences on everyone else.

Minor Adventure question
wanderon replied to qwert_44643's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
To everything, turn, turn, turn. There is a season, turn, turn, turn. And a time to every purpose under heaven. A time to be born, a time to die. A time to plant, a time to reap. A time to kill, a time to heal. A time to laugh, a time to weep... -
I like having a formation with my mechanic in front - he/she is also likely to be my highest stealth character as well altho so far (chap 1 & 2 only) I have not gone beyond 3 stealth and generally everyone has that. So hopefully when the mechanic finds a trap they can disarm it without being seen by nearby enemies. 4 3 1 >>> 5 2

Humm... now that was not really what I was saying though... they brought up above that money was no issue later in the game so I was talking about PURPOSEFULLY hamstring my looting so money would become an issue so I can't rest after each fight so I have to manage my resources. I currently never have to manage my resources at all and can practically rest after each fight if I wanted too which make encounter versus per rest abilities practically the same and total health more or less a none issue. There seem to be a total lack of balancing in the game in regard to this and there is a lack of mechanic to balance it. The ONLY thing that keep you from resting after each fight is Role-Play or the tediousness of running back and forth to an Inn. That is not (in my opinion) a sound mechanic. Perhaps you should explain to the devs exactly how you would accomplish fixing this so that all levels of players would be satisfied with the result.
