  1. At least POEs opening dungeon is relatively short and thus you can breeze through it fairly quickly - I have done it a LOT already but I still kill every enemy and pick up every scrap of loot along the way (disarm every trap possible)
  2. You seem like the kind of player that would allow a 5 INT, 5 MGHT Wizard into your party. At the very least, give us a chance to re-specialize the characters traits and talents! Actually I don't drop any stat below 8 myself - it's an RP thing for me - but for companions I was really hoping they would include an auto-update option for companions traits and talents that would reflect the manner in which the dev who designed the character would choose to level them up - doing so would add more life to the character to me - make them more of a companion that had their own personality and own way of doing things whether it was MY WAY or not maybe even take it a step further and have the dev prepare a default AI script for them that you could choose as an option. (I would not suggest making this sort of auto update mandatory but would love to have it as an option.)
  3. Personally I think that's the way it should be and bravo for them sticking to their guns in spite of some folks being displeased - people put a lot of time and effort into making those characters and there's no reason they should not come either as a complete package or not at all. How would you feel if the game auto changed the stats you chose for your adventurers to something else
  4. Ummm should game be 2.00.706 (not 760) - that's what mine is... ?? (also followed by PX1 or 1PX?) On GOG also will patch 2.0 be coming soon for DVD users??
  5. GOG often updates the installer package of a game once there are several patches out, and in fact this is what they've done with Pillars. Although there's no reason to DL the entire game install again, since the incremental patches are still available. So I think Wanderon must have gotten a bit confused on what needs to be DLed. I know I had to apply the 1.06 hotfix before patch 2.0 would work. After that, the expansion installed with no issue. Thank you Ink Blot! It was indeed the hot fixes to 106 that I needed to install 2.0 and now the White March!
  6. I thought when it said I had to update the installer that it meant the GOG installer which I did but after finally finding and updating the GOG installer (no simple matter - it's not available in plain sight anywhere) when I tried to USE the updated GOG installer to update the game it started to redownload the files I had already downloaded - at that point I assumed it was the Pillars windows installer it wanted me to update and that is still downloading as we speak (2.24gb of 6.5gb). I am now attempting to download the two hot fixes for 106 that Ink Blot mentioned to see if THOSE are the files needed instead (as they will likely be done before the windows installers since they are only 30MB and 8MB .

So - when is the 2.whatever patch going live for the DVD users so I can have some more fun updating my laptops DVD install too...
  8. Will we be seeing patch 2.0 on the downloads/patch page soon?
  9. Enemy males within 10m fall into an ogle state causing a 50% increase in recovery speed...
  10. I suspect that no matter where you live it would depend on whether or not you agreed to a policy that would allow such behavior in the documents you had to agree to in order to purchase (that no one reads). Once again the real problem is simply too many loophole mongering lawyers...
  11. As soon as the information was in the combat log for the first time, it is open information to everyone - for example, the defenses are displayed immediately at the tooltip of an enemy after you targeted them. With the 2.0 patch, you even get a hit percentage as additional information. The bestiary just gives you the information even before you strike a first blow against a specific defense, it is not necessary at all to fight against enemies multiple times to get that information. Incorporating this knowledge into the enemy AI would hardly be unfair in my opinion since the player can make informed choices based on these informations all the time (and is even encouraged to do so), and I doubt that the AI will ever be clever enough make the smartest decisions involving these information to own the player. Don't get me wrong here, I'm sure it's hard as hell to code a proper AI which can't be easily abused and still makes somehow smart decisions revolving engagement and so on. My main point is that the old AI behaviour where the enemy never disengaged differs quite a lot from a potential AI where the enemy frequently disengages with regards to how an ideal defensive character should look like. A highly specialized tank which won't be attacked is a useless waste of space. Improving AI is the most efficient but probably the most difficult way to shake up the tank & spank strategy. Even then, afflictions are still way too powerful and the level design still encourages you to position high defensive characters as blockers for the most part. Still, PoE has quite some potential to improve on these things, so it'll be interesting for me to see what the actual 2.0 AI brings to the table. Not sure what you are saying here - info in beastiary increases from 0 to 100% based on multiple encounters and until it's 100% the incomplete info is what I see in the tool tips (or would see if I used them which I don't). My question is at what point the enemy would have 100% of this information to make these sorts of tactical decisions from and why?
  12. Does this character currently engaging me have low accuracy or a low hit chance? Are there other targets that are more susceptible to my attacks (lower deflection, DR or Endurance)? Do I have a clear path to these additional targets? If yes, disengage. And is this the same information available to the player re: enemy tanks allowing them to make similar decisions? We know players get more information on specific enemy types by facing more of them - how would this be decided for enemy characters?
  13. What criteria would the enemy be using to determine whether breaking engagement is going to be devastating to him or a cakewalk?
  14. I don't mind the dreaming part but the Awakening is a little scary...
  15. Actually you can "own it" if you are a fighter/warrior class altho it and all the other BG2 strongholds are indeed optional - some better than others but I wouldn't call the better than PoE just different - I'm OK with PoE stronghold - but would welcome improvements. You still don't own it, your "wife" does. And the your main opponents/contacts in the city are mages and they don't care for your castle. But they care about the Sphere and they oversee you there. You can even force them to help you with your Imoen quest there (even if it turns out useless in the end, at least it is recognized). PoE Stronghold is recognized by nobody and you deal with people in Defiance Bay that MUST be aware of it and who SHOULD care about it. You don't even have to keep that silly girl in your party never mind marry her to "own" (have control of) the castle - BG strongholds had pretty much no recognition by anyone as well - the mages aren't interested in YOU or the fact that you have aquired the sphere, nor are the paladins, or the priests or the members of your thief stronghold - there is a huge disconnect between the thieves guild helping you to find Imoen and the operation of the thief stronghold - so much so that you get in trouble over the dues while you are unable to take care of them -
  16. Yeah this is kind of where I am at just a couple roolz... 1)I don't min max - nothing lower than an 8 2) I like to RP my character - it's somewhat disappointing that nothing you choose to do ever seems to piss off any of the companions which IMO would increase role play value/fun (I am looking at you Eder) but the gist of it is I choose my actions/answers based on what I think my character would do not necessarily on what I think will bring the "best" response/outcome 3) I rarely use adventurers (so far anyway) other than as "placeholders" while I wait for a companion to be available without running ahead to get them but I can easily see games in the future where I might have a mixed bag of companions/adventurers altho I am less likely to go with all adventurers unless I get into "themed" parties that companions wouldn't really fit. 4) So far I also seem to be operating under a rule of not going beyond chapter 2 before starting another interesting character but I am currently debating trying to finish one of those games before the expansion comes out.

  18. Make Pillars a Dragon Age clone? No thank you we are talking apples and oranges here - Pillars is just what it was supposed to be and exactly what the Kickstarter promised.
  19. A line of code here, new interface there... I'm sure it's something Josh could put together during his lunch break. You know man seeing as I've put some code toghether myself for certain things I know a bit abotu this. Sure im very lost when it comes to online creation, but I say I've more than you. Its merely allowing peopel to connect online through lan (not even their own servers) get two games to connect one people to be able to use their own companions in another game and its just basically a copy of the single player. Independant modders did it for skyrim, it cant be THAT hard for a pro company. The question is really not how hard it is (altho it is certainly difficult to do well) the problem as I and many other have pointed out is every snippet of resources it takes to do this are resources taken away from the single player game. The one they asked our funding for and told us would NOT include MP or consoles. So yes my considered opinion can indeed be summed up in a single word - NO! Sorry if that offends you but it's likely no more than adding MP would offend me.
  20. I don't think I ever got him at level 2 - I wasn't aware it was even possible since I always pick him up right after grabbing Aloth & talking to the dwarf
  21. Nothing stopping it. Nothing cool making me want to do it either. It's just crappier generic dual wielding guy. With companion and ranger perks that no other class offers
  22. Nothing stopping the ranger from dual wielding now I went with arms bearer and currently have pistol, bow, club/ax equipped - haven't decided on a weapon focus yet - using the best available atm - open with pistol then switch to bow then enter melee as opportunities arise - you could easily go for more melee if you wish once the companion and tank are in position.
  23. I'm playing a ranger/bear atm and while the pet does die fairly often it doesn't lose any health for dying and since I'm mostly doing ranged attacks the penalties for pet dying aren't generally a factor in completing the battle - just sort of annoying. But then I don't calculate this stuff out so it could be I'm really getting screwed and I am just oblivious to it.
