A New Beginning! (Finally)
wanderon replied to wanderon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Protip: you can cut east through Woodend Plains, along the road, and head to Stormwall Gorge to grab Hiravias (and onward to Dyrford and Grieving Mother) before ever entering Defiance Bay. My barb just did it last night. Yeah did that once myself altho I think I went to Defiance Bay first - in fact it was the only time I had those two in party - that was the group I got to Act 3 (but never started it) - don't think we did any of the Dyrford quests either - was going to come back later for them. -

Took one party to the beginning of Act 3 and also took them to first couple of maps of WM (Pally PC) Took several more (5-8?) into Act 2 took one down to level 6-7 of Od Nua the others 2-4 levels or so. Took too many to count through character creation and 1st dungeon + several Act 1 maps Did I mention I'm a chronic restarter? It doesn't bother me tho I enjoy trying out new characters as much as progressing the game - I would like to move the parameters out farther tho so I could make more companion decisions - I'm getting tired of only using just the opening 4 - 5 companions -

A New Beginning! (Finally)
wanderon replied to wanderon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah I was specifically interested in Barb & rogue due to general lack of companions (the while march rogue comes pretty late and is going to be unlike any you build yourself ) I am a pretty big ranger fan and have started quite a few and the last couple did indeed seem very good - but then there's Sagani and that's the only reason I tend to put them at the lower end of the do this list. I'm a pretty big druid fan for these types of games but haven't really had much of a chance to use the druid companion yet either so same thing there and again for cipher - I've only used GM a short time (thanks to restartitius mostly) and she is one I'm pretty sure I want to have along to do her story. -

Nice! Now I have more studying to do -
OK after uninstalling everything related to Pillars followed by almost two full days of downloading the game and patches through 2.1 (GOG) on my $15 a month Internet connection I believe I am finally ready to start a new game. Of course now I have to decide on a new character which probably means I will start multiple games over the next week or two Atm I am deciding between an Orlan Barbarian, a Moondoggie Paladin (or cipher?), A different cipher, a rogue, and a ranger. I will most likely play on Hard. Suggestions welcome (not much into min max builds rarely drop any stat below

DVD Patches Are Live
wanderon replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I heard a pretty substantiated rumor that 2.2 is close to release now - are we making any more progress on getting it to DVD owners? -
Update 2.01 is Now Live
wanderon replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
They are supposed to be working on that - same for patches altho they already have a download page for DVD patches but it only has 1.06 atm. OK, is there any way as a DVD backer to switch to a GoG download? You can buy the game on GOG -

Gauns Share (Unique flail)?
wanderon replied to wanderon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Currently in the SLOW process of re-downloading Pillars (after uninstall) so far Setup 1 is done and Setup 2 is a little over half (2.5 of 3.9 G) and I've been at it for over 2 hours - then comes Setup 3 and then all the patches and WM - with luck I'll get it done by sometime this evening. (GOG version) Now would be a great time to have patches beyond 1.06 and WM available for my DVD version - I would already be playing again -
About Part 2
wanderon replied to Benedictous's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The problem with people saying that Wizards, or Rangers are trash is that they are wrong. It's math. It has nothing to do with play styles or opinions. With proper knowledge of the game and decent tactics you can beat the game with the equivalent of six random guys of the street. I use a Chanter in my melee heavy groups because my melee team is durable but doesn't nuke the world in the first few seconds so enough time goes by to get some invocations off, well that and kana is an interesting character. But efficiency wise pretty much anyone except a Fighter would help the team more. As the levels increase there is less reasons to want the chanter. His good abilities take longer to activate while casters get more and more abilities that activate instantly and even allow unlimited use per encounter without the shame of needing to rest. A buffed up ranger pet might be a better tank than a Fighter is now, or at least good enough for long enough and they pop back up ready to go after every encounter. No forced health attrition rests needed. The problem with anyone saying any class is trash is that it's nothing more than internet hyperbole and they are in fact just "talking trash" it has little or no bearing on reality to anyone but other "trash talkers" who all feel the need to categorize everything as either awesome or garbage - it is a common affliction these days and if you crave more of it please visit any political forum - this is an unpaid community service announcement - no chanters were hurt in the making of this statement. -
Gauns Share (Unique flail)?
wanderon replied to wanderon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I have 2.0.1 but no draining ability showing anywhere (description, Character sheet, combat logs) had a CTD today too - only second one ever in POE - I reinstalled 2.0.1 last week due to the pink problem maybe my install is corrupted. -
Gauns Share (Unique flail)?
wanderon replied to wanderon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not listed on this one - that does sound sort of familiar tho - health or endurance leech I'll have to watch the log and see if it shows up there. -
Ok so I really liked Guans Flail (Unique) - it's available pretty early but for the first time I just picked up a fine flail as well and discovered they are identical (thus it's not unique at all)? same base damage same 30% of grazes to hits same fine bonuses to accuracy and damage Is this a bug? was there something else that Guans had that is now missing or was the normal fine flail not supposed to have the graze to hit bonus? Call me confused...

Update 2.01 is Now Live
wanderon replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
What I mean are updates for those that are using the DVD versions of the game The updates are attained through our website here. Once the 2.01 update is finished it will be placed in this location. Well, I tried to use the dvd version I bought from amazon, and had to install and patch through steam anyway - VERY annoying. So now I'm micromanaging bandwidth. Boxed versions and patches on physical media made my online life so much simpler.... but thanks for the answer. The retail DVD was only a Steam installer (not something I would have done but I guess Obs/Paradox had their reasons) - the DVD patches on site are for the kickstarter DVD backers who got the full base-game on DVD. So yeah, you're stuck with Steam I wouldn't mind - except that I only get 12gig on a rolling 30 days (not related to my billing cycle - or any other "benchmark" so I don't really have much control). This is becoming a huge problem for me. I'm aware I'm part of a vanishingly small minority in the gaming world - someone who lives so far out that other than wild blue I have nothing except dialup. Then again, I live somewhere with the cleanest air and water in this section of the country, my power bill is miniscule, and there's no crime. *shrug* Too bad that the phone company can't be bothered to upgrade our 50+ year old copper analog lines to fiber.... Not going to happen in what's left of my lifetime, for a hundred full time phones.... But since the one thing I call my hobby - playing CRPGs - is beginning to require a much more "modern" connection, it's probable that it won't be much longer before my hobby isn't available to me. Sucks.... but it is what it is. I still won't go back to wow - but I can play rift I guess. I do very much enjoy this game, but if it gets to the point where patches, updates, expansions or whatever use too much bandwidth, I'll have to quit playing this sort of game. *Nostalgia* Used to be that SPMR games really were "machine resident". Now.... not so much. I had download troubles several years ago when it would have been a waste to pay for high volume internet because I was only home a few days a month - solved with a laptop I could take to a wifi source (Starbucks) where I would download what I needed then took it home and shared it with my desktop - laptops are pretty reasonable today - you might want to consider laptop plus road trip to get your downloads - -
About Part 2
wanderon replied to Benedictous's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I've seen guesses of Winter and Spring - November seems very early - my guess would be Spring 2016 but that's pure speculation. -
I don't use the enchant option too much - I figure I'm eventually going to find some cool item for my teams needs so why waste the cash early on - in fact by the time I get to about level 5 or so the problem is I have too many cool items and not enough characters to use them all - I may not have the "perfect" item for every character yet but then the game is not even half over at that point. That said I certainly would not want to see the enchant option go away not only because I might choose to use it to make a special item that's not going to appear and secondly because there are others out there that like it. I think they did a good job implementing it - I feel free to either take it or leave it and I think that's exactly how it should be.

Can you break from an encounter
wanderon replied to DEY123's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If you are going to run you may succeed if you make the decision before anyone dies - otherwise it's probably unlikely.
