  1. I'm at level 9 now, and apart from the four or five tools available (crowbar, grappling hook, etc., the absolutely essential stuff you don't want to be without in a scripted encounter), I have not bought anything. There has been no need. Actually, come to think of it: I have bought one thing that gives +2 might. I'm not saying that you're wrong, but so far it seems to me that Deadfire is identical to PoE in the sense that there is almost nothing to be bought in the game. Like in PoE, I also have not used potions at all, except for the two occasions I tried potions of moderate healing. the unique weapons for sale are very expensive, as are the high-level upgrades. You spend more money on your ship crew and such (wages/food to keep morale high). There's not much you're forced to buy, but certainly there's more to spend money on than PoE1. I like to get and upgrade all the unique weapons, which in this game isn't easy to do
  2. The "economy" in an RPG is the money you get vs the stuff you can spend it on. In most RPGs you'll get a lot of money pretty quickly because you don't really NEED to buy much. You get a ton of money in Deadfire but there's also a lot to spend it on, so you won't end up with a million cp in your account unless you specifically want to
  3. A couple of minor bits of feedback: Some of the premade characters have the same portraits as crew members you can hire. I understand crew members using player portraits because there are only so many portraits you can make, but I think with premade characters there should ideally be no overlap, since the premade characters and crew members both come from the developer side. So please check the premade characters' portraits against the existing crew members and make sure none are the same. The new Berath's Blessing to give Eder a pet slot is nice, but maybe a bit expensive. A second pet running around isn't THAT big a deal in terms of balance etc. Maybe an 8 or 5 cost would be better for that
  4. A retcon is just a storytelling technique and doesn't by itself mean anything
  5. We control what buffs our character gets, we don't control what debuffs our enemy gives us, and we may need to get rid of a debuff quickly, which means we need to know we have it quickly. So I agree
  6. She's not that sensible, if you side with her she starts the Ukaizo storms back up before leaving at the end
  7. What size are the "s" small icons for crew members? They're in the gui/icons/items/crew/ folder which I can't see
  8. The writing and dungeons aren't as good, the gameplay and graphics, and the presentation of the story, are all improved. There's more personality to the average interaction, thanks to portraits and voice work, and more effort to make conversations interesting. Unique weapons and armour have mutually-exclusive upgrades so you can personalise them a bit. The DLC is well worth the asking price, I recommend grabbing the season pass I think it is because it is a reskinned torch. I do not think torches can be equipped in your main hand. It's just a line of text in the code; they presumably could change it if they wanted to.
  9. Then maybe you should try before complain, isn't? in this case to "try" would be to roll a new character, get to Neketaka, and walk around for a while. Could be time-consuming
  10. Just get an enemy to down to a sliver of Health, then have your main character run in to finish them off. You can probably get rid of the debuff before you leave the first island if you do that consistently E: okay probably not the first island, but not too long after
  11. The DLCs so far have focused on late-game stuff, and in separate areas from the main game. One DLC adds some content to main game areas but you have to do some high level content in the DLC to be able to access it. The third DLC is likely going to be much the same, a new area with high-level stuff you can expect to be doing closer to the endgame. So I reckon you're good to go!
  12. There's inevitably going to be less people working on the game as it gets further away from launch date. The game is five months old now, and I'd imagine at this point they have to decide whether doing a stream would be a more productive use of someone's time than coming up with a new ability for a weapon, or correcting some dialogue scene that wasn't triggering right, or something. I hope they do a stream to show off some of the DLC though.
  13. Yeah, imo Magran's Teeth is where I go after doing everything else, to kick off the endgame. After that as far as the factions are concerned it's all hands on deck to find Ukaizo. Well, for example, Galawain has a couple of lines referring to the fact that the essence stored on this island might help him when Eothas breaks the Wheel
  14. Having it be after a certain point in the plot cuts down on the stuff they have to take into account (for example, SSS can safely assume the player knows Eothas is going to Ukaizo to break the Wheel) and also ensures people won't be coming to the DLC area when they're too low-level to handle it. Things do get somewhat urgent after Ashen Maw, but that's the main story's fault more than anything
  15. There's only English language audio
  16. Chris Avellone wasn't involved in naming either character, so who knows
  17. I don't know if this is working as intended, or if not if it's something the devs are aware of, but I thought adding some pictures might be helpful So I load up my save, at sea. I go straight to Marihi's Metalworks without incident: Upon entering, this new character is there, and we begin a conversation: Note the second option. As mentioned, there were no assassins- I got here without incident, possibly due to the bug that stops random encounters from happening. She has both DLC items and suggests that if I bring her a third she can create something. However, dialogue files suggest that she should be able to make something out of the two I have.
  18. Random encounters have been broken for a while. Hopefully the DLC blacksmith doesn't rely on one to work
  19. Transformed enemies drop loot for me all the time. I wonder if the bug happens with the upgrade to friendly summons
  20. I've been wandering around Neketaka trying to trigger the assassin ambush, to see if that changes anything. Nothing so far
  21. Yeah, this contradiction is nothing new in video games with non-linear exploration. Witcher 3 does it with your character's quest to rescue his daughter which he's charged with doing by the Emperor, Fallout 4 does it with your character's quest to find his son, etc.
  22. I've said before and I'll say again, "go defeat the evil villain" would have been easier to do and probably more of a crowd pleaser, and even if the end result is far from perfect I respect the ambition and attempt to tell a different story
