  1. I apologize for contributing zilch to the discussion, but is it crazy that I'm getting weirded out every time I see the topic title? EDIT: Also - not sure if it counts, but I'd say Final Fantasy Tactics is an awesome game.
  2. Huh? Was there actually anything left unresolved with the Pargrunen? They made a big deal of the Pargrunen being bad-ass explorers and telling us repeatedly that they had spent time in the Deadfire and Living Lands. Seems like an awful lot of set up for something that won’t be revisited. My $0.02 I guess that may very well be the case. To me, the Deadfire/Living Lands thing was fodder for the globe puzzle more than anything else, especially given Josh's stance on PoE lore (i.e. don't set up too much in advance to avoid it getting in the way for other writers in the future), but as a dorf fan, I wouldn't mind being wrong on that.
  3. Someone pointed this out earlier in the thread, probably multiple times, too, but anyway: The smaller size doesn't have to be a bad thing. Considering the setting of Deadfire, they have a pretty unique opportunity to seamlessly weave any number of DLC into the base game. In my case, as long as it's done organically, without obvious transitions/gateway mechanics that painfully let me know that YOU'RE ENTERING THE BEAST OF WINTER CONTENT, I probably won't mind the reduced length at all.
  4. Look at this dude with his first world Internet Funny, you'd think that the Regent of Terra would have a good connection.

  6. Does that mean we'll be getting a Rymrgand-themed DLC? Color me excited!
  7. Amazeballs How about HMS Amazeballs? And thus my first ship name was invented
  8. Goddamn Dyrwoodans always looking down on the good old Aedyr, smh
  9. I'm convinced James Earl Jones could play a polka dot pattern toaster and still end up being menacing. Then again, I imagine barbarian warlords rarely have the fashion sense to give themselves decent haircuts.
  10. It's funny how cactuars look progressively weirder and more confounding in 3D as modern graphics improve. That's a good thing, by the way.
  11. Oh my God, it's new stuff for Stellaris! Despite its flaws, it's pretty much the game I've wanted to play ever since I was a kid. Milking or not, I'm glad they're keeping it updated with new content. I mean, even stuff like Horizon Signal was great. I did not expect them to go full cosmic horror in a 4X game.
  12. The entirety of my office took a sick leave when Destiny 2 came out. Man, was that so not worth it.
  13. Wasn't there also an unnamed order of Ondrite paladins in the Abbey during White March pt. 2? Unless they were meant to serve as generic enemy paladins who happen to worship Ondra, which is also possible.
  14. Yeah, the Dunmer voices are great and Oblivion's acting was so generic. Wealth beyond measure, Outlander.
  15. On the topic of Josh's recent Twitter activity, somewhat less from the Deadfire corner and more from the Developers As People corner: I don't know why, but it makes me ridiculously happy that he's an apparent fan of Dead Can Dance.
  16. Not to mention that entire wagon train that went along with armies made up of armorers, weaponsmiths, apothecaries etc non combatants that they would slaughter. I see where you are coming from in that the act might prevent further bloodshed but it is evil. There's also the fact that Bleak Walkers were created to be PoE's counterpart to D&D's Blackguards, who are almost always evil fallen paladins/dark knight archetypes.
  17. Best fit if only for the tremendous pun potential. ... I feel scared to continue now.
  18. You're right, but the thing is... do we know that? I don't really follow the streams too often, so I apologize if I'm wrong right off the bat, but I feel confident enough to say that - right now - we don't know for sure whether any of that will happen. Is what you're describing really the case here? Yes, Josh stated that we will get to know his story on his last Q&A - a really weak Q&A tbh. Maybe we will get to know his story through the game, like we did with Durance. But, like someone already said, why would I take a sidekick if I can take a full companion with a relationship system? I would only consider that if the sidekick would be really funny and interesting, maybe getting the sidekicks into the relationship system would fix their problem. Pretty sure you can still talk to him (and other companions) on the ship, so you probably don't have to take him with you to learn his full story. Actually, they did an AMA and the sidekicks have an intro conversation when you recruit them but can't converse with them beyond that. So either: A) Rekke's story will be revealed through outside means like books, or B) He has more going on than the other sidekicks, and is related to the story for spoilery reasons. Rekke is Eothas, then? No, wait. Rekke is... Woden, Eder's brother! dun dun duuuun
  19. Awesome idea! I love fluffy modifications like yours. I'd love to give this a try when Deadfire comes out, seems fun.

I stand corrected! As for the latter part, I can't speak for everyone, but I sure can offer a personal reason: as a dwarf fan, I've come to terms that Konstanten is the closest I'll ever get to seeing another dwarf companion in an Obsidian game. So, yeah. Khelgar come back please
  21. What about narrated bits? And what if you disable text? You draw attention to static background and not interacting characters? I will take screen of text, over Bioware face and PoE doesn’t have even that. Bioware face?
  22. You're right, but the thing is... do we know that? I don't really follow the streams too often, so I apologize if I'm wrong right off the bat, but I feel confident enough to say that - right now - we don't know for sure whether any of that will happen. Is what you're describing really the case here? On another note, I'd like to point out that I didn't mean to disparage Obsidian's writers and/or their skill in handling such a character. It was more of a lighthearted joke than anything else. Still, I also think that it's a stretch to attribute some arcane complexity to Rekke solely on the basis of him speaking a different language - a language constructed entirely by the developer of the game that no one else has means to understand or analyze in-depth. For all we know, they might as well go full KoTOR route and insert monosyllabic looped growls and sound bytes instead of words. (They won't, but it'd be fun.) I'm not an expert by any means, but I'd imagine there's a lot of things that a writer has to keep track of when they're writing stuff in English: things like consistent register, vocabulary, verbal mannerisms, that kind of stuff. You know, all the little rules to make your character sound and feel a certain way. And all I meant to say is that when you're the person making these rules in the first place, there's a lot you can get away with with relatively little effort. Which of course doesn't mean that I hate Rekke or that he will suck, no. I'm sure he'll be a good character.
  23. Not to knock on Rekke and any potential arcs that he may have, but I was under the impression that he was supposed to be Deadfire's Chewbacca. And by that, I mean that it's much easier to write extra material for a guy who literally cannot communicate with the rest of the cast.
