RPGCodex Review #1 - Hŵrpa Dwrp
Volourn replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I like the game personally but the bottom line is that the review isn't wrong. However, prepare for a lot of anti Codex posts in this thread. -
Yeah, he/she would. The Leaden Key were exposed for the scumbag evil pieces of crap they are in PE1. So, even if we use a difference charactr (though Obsidian's idea is to use same character) they would still know. \Now, if you are role-playing an evil piece of crap, by all means, side with the scumbag evil group.

"Seems like you didn't even understand the way story is presented." Are you trying to pretend the main villain/antagonist wasn't evil? COME ON.
-
I'm secure enough to call out nazis when nazis deserve to be called out. Only cowards allow lies and evil be allowed to do what theyw ant. Or do you find it acceptable that female game developers are harassed, bullied, and intimidated by people who claim they are fighting for them? LMAO
-
"Even though they specified they mean a very specific subset of gamers? A subset with which people outside of gaming are very prone to identifying the whole of gamers?" They said games. Gamers are gamers are gamers. They claimed gamers were over and dead. They aren't. "Also, just because you disagree with what they wrote, doesn't mean they are "corrupt, unethical and part of a hate movement" Agreed. The fact they are corrupt, unethical, and part of a hate movement means they are corrupt, unethical, and part of a hate movement. Their actiosn have proven this quite clearly. Just check all the FEMALE game developers they have attacked, harassed, bullied, and hated. :)

So is this game actually good?
Volourn replied to rkade8583's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"^This. When you look at BG1's story you really have no choice but to see it for what it is: Bluh. But BG1 does such a good job in delivery. It's that slow drip of information - that feeling that you're moving up the enemy's ranks. That detective-like situation when you take out a member of the grand conspiracy and learn about his boss.....then you take out his boss and learn that he's just a puppet for someone greater, etc." Exactly. BG's story is nothing special. It's the journey that makes it work,. "PoE is a great game, an instant classic. There is little room to argue this fact." PE is a good game but instant classic? L0LZ "The whole Highlander theme ... There can only be One!... is ridicilous, because there is no need for Bhaalspawn to slaughter one another, due to the absence of lightning show after extended family decapitations. Sarevok's plan made no sense.... start a massive war and cause as much bloodshed and this would somehow turn him, or bring him closer to becoming Lord of Murder!? Good luck with that." Sure it did if you paid attention. He wanted o be the God of Murder... sow aht does he do? Commits murder. Logic 101. "I would rate PoE on the same level with BG II, it has better atmosphere, lore and different themes interacting with one another, but less personal and less focused on strongly motivated characters." No. -

Volourn replied to rkade8583's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"hat PoEs story, writing and companions are leagues ahead of those games is even in question really surprises me." L0L The biggest problem with PE's writing is that for the most part it is bland, and boring. It ties way too hard to be edgy and different but isn't. There are some gems but overall the story isn't the main reason to play for me.. until near the end where youa ctually got to make some interesting chocies though not b/c of writing. The companions are mostly okay but their quests are flat out boring and simple. The story is a DOS copycat. BG1's story isn't deep or complext but it was never about the actual story. BG is about the journey. BG2 is about the conflict between you and Irenicus because whether you like it or not, Irenicus has targeted tyou and will continue to target you until he gets what he wants. BG2's story and characters are leaps better than PE's. The writing is slifghtly better. Not neccessarily 'deeper' or 'more complex' but better. Irencius completely and utterly destroys PE's main villain whose connection to the PC is weaksauce. -
"As expected Volourn, you pontificate without offering any proof." My proof is the game itself.Good and evil exists. As Slayer points out, 'point of view' of what a certain society approves or dissaproves of what is right or wrong varies. It should be pointed out that the characters very much work on the good/neutral/evil line even if alignment itself doesn't exist. Just look at the options the game gives you when dealing with the lord's niece. That is certainly good vs evil. But, hey, keep making up nonsense. The game doesn't have 'good and evil'. L0L

Shades = Ankhegs
Volourn replied to Evange's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Nah. Shades are only a problem at level 2 or 3 when it's just the PC + say Aloth (the most likely first joinable). Once you get more characters/higher level they are a piece of cake. I mean facing shades et al at end of game is just lame. The 'tatic's needed for them is not hard. The 'variation' they give is not huge considering that they may very well be the most common type of enemy in the game or at least one of them. "No, I dont. I know many fantasy fans, I play board games and PnP etc with them. I frequently hear this or that book, or setting is 'too strange'. And it's nothing really crazy, for example Jack Vance's "Lyonesse". Conversely, they are happy to read the n-th fantasy book which does everything the same way. You'd think reading fantasy would build up tolerance for "craziness". Ultimately, it's worth remembering the word "fan" comes from "fanatic". Literally." \Uh. I'ma fantasy fan and I'm fine with different monsters. the problem is when you change things up you either do it well or you do it poorly. In PE, some of the variant monsters are done welll...others not much. It's why DnD has been so successful... exactly ebcause it takes old fantasy tales/ancient folklore and change it up to work. Afterall, LOTR came before DnD. DnD took the troll and changed it.. and, voila, it worked. PE takes the troll and does nothing interesting with it. That's why it fails. Trolls in PE having nothing interesting about them. Nothing. Its wicht, on the other hand, while super easy.. does have an interetsing backstory since.. technically, when you kill a PE wicht.. it's a 'former' kid you are killing (even if it is self defense still sad). Wicht > Troll -
Nope. They did. Face the facts. And, they were DEAD wrong. \Because, I get tos till play games like PE that allows me to abuse women all I want since we know that why white male gamers enjoy playing games for - to abuse, belittle, and enslave women.

"Bioware is pushing a socially progressive but that seems to come from the writers and developers rather than pandering to outside influence." \ L0L You think that works in a vaccum? Trust me, they are pandering. That's the point. Even then, BIO STILL gets attacked by SJWs. Just like Obsidian. No matter how much you pander to them it'll NEVER be enough. \ \As for games being 'ruinno if I['d go that far but I do know games have been HURT or made WORSE by nazi sjws - PE being one of them. DA3 being the other. The moment you begin to pander to such a piece of crap group your game is auto worse than what it would be without their brainwashing influence. Also, anyone claiming those 'gamers are dead' articles werent' attacking gamers are friggin' delusional crackpots. If you claim gamers are dead you are attacking gamers. PERIOD.

"From the Kanadians I've seen spekaing..." L0L Don't make stuff up. You know nothing. Anyways, as far as the issue goes, censorship is wrong. The orchestra is wrong. But that's expected when dealing with nazis which many Kanadians are.

Struggling to finish
Volourn replied to AncientToaster's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"It seems to me, when you step back and view the big picture, that all the complaints about Pillars of Eternity basically boil down to, "It's not Baldur's Gate." \ Don't lie. the fact the main plot is nothing more than a rip off DOS has nothing to do with BG. The fact that jello can be knocked down, that fire eleementals can be burned being stupid has nothing to do with BG2. The fact the end of ch2 is pure moroncicy has nothing to do with BG. Need I go on? The game has LOTS of weaknesses that having nothing to do with BG. PE is a fun game but it has a lot of horrible garbage in it that holds it down. -
Shades = Ankhegs
Volourn replied to Evange's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's all about context. If there is controversey it's because Obsidian failed. Afterall, LOTR came first and have their trolls. DnD came later and while LOTR is largely credited for DnD 9which it shouldn't be outside of it being popular fantasy), DnD does many things differently - including trolls. The fact that regenerating fire fearing trolls are now popular or 'expected' means DnD did a great job selling them. It's up Obsidian to sell their new versions of old creatures. For the most part, I think they did well with most of their undead creatures. Trolls, though, were poorly done. They came across as nothing more than boring monsters. Same with xaurips. Just kobold wannabes up to and including their affinity with dragons. -
While I am anti feminism censoring the tshirt is evil to the core. That solves nothing, imbeciles. Don't do stupid stuff like that. The tshirt hurts nobody. FFS

Shades = Ankhegs
Volourn replied to Evange's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"What's even sadder is that many "fantasy fans" struggle with imagination." Don't you mean DnD fans? Nobody seemed to have a problem with LOTR trolls not regenerating. Why do people make stuff up? -
This single line made my day
Volourn replied to Ouroboros226's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"You face a monstrous creature that puts illithids to shame -" No, they don't. Not even close. \ \That aside, I agree, that line was definitely chuckle worthy. The fiery whote line though... I'm surprised some SJW didn't demand its removal amongst a bunch of other sexist lines. R00fles! -
Shades = Ankhegs
Volourn replied to Evange's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"Well, they're staples of the Medieval European folklore that most Western fantasy settings are based on. Except that in this game, those monster types actually have an interesting "backstory/rationale" to their existence and characteristics. So basically Obsidian is both hitting the right notes here w.r.t. what fans expect from a fantasy RPG, and being innovative at the same time. Why bash them for that?" Uh.. Vampires and ghouls have more background/better rational than silly Fampyres or guhls. L0L -
"Longknife, your post does come across as hysterical. I do not think I need to exaggerate to make it so." Pot. kettle. Black. "Yes, I'm throwing the fit. Observing that the forum has changed, and that this thread in particular has become a place for bizarre behavior, is such a tantrum. I'll make sure to alert the waambulance." L0L

"Prove that good and evil really exists in the physical world of PoE and not as some meta-concept in your mind. There is no god of evil, no construct that points to this. Just an artificial pantheon of false gods overlaid on some natural Universe (as far as we are informed, that is). No evidence ingame supports the existence of good and evil - not even as a conflict. Those thinking along these lines and reacting accordingly are badly informed. There is only "beneficial or not" depending from perspective." L0L Good and evil does exist in the world of PE. To pretend it doesn't is laughable. Some of the gods are clearly evil and some are clearly good. The cocnepts of good and evil exist for a reason. You don't think sacrificing a bay is evil? How about raping your niece? Not evil? Or helping Elder find the answers to his brother isn't good? Or remving an intruder that mass murdered the former inhabitants isn't good? COME ON. Stop with the opsycho babble of 'there is no good or evil just perspective'. That nonsense shoudln't work in the real world or a fictional one. It's mythical and isn't logical.

Damn it all. 0 RLY? Another episode another less 5 minutes for Sansa/Littlefinger. WTF
