I think they've mentioned they're working on a method for people to download patches manually from their site but I have no idea what process that might entail or when it might arrive etc. The thing about GoG is they use their own "installer" and thus have to spend time testing/making sure a patch works with their installer. I don't know techs about that process either, but it's why GoG patches usually take 1-3 days longer, especially compared to Steam's easy to use (for the developer as well as the consumer) insta-process.

Limerick edit thread
LadyCrimson replied to Divinehammer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Thread pruned. Also, forum post-count has been reached so I'm going to close this thread. If another is created for more discussion of this topic, I hope it shall continue in a more constructive manner than this incarnation had, or it may end up closed as well. -
That's interesting. So for some reason he has a special "dimiss forever" option perhaps. I wonder what the reasoning for that is, if so. I thought maybe it was showing up because I've been "honest/diplomatic" whereas I think he doesn't like those so maybe it's if you really like to roleplay and think your chr. wouldn't put up with him...
-
He doesn't actually leave then? And yes I know I can save and try, and I will. I was on a lake-trip for a couple days and haven't gotten back to the game just yet but this was on my mind. Mostly I was wondering *why* he has that option when the others don't. I know some crpg's have a line like that to create a dialogue "dimiss companion" option, but since only Durance has it (that I've noticed) + you dismiss companions through other methods in PoE, it feels curious. Like an option that shouldn't show up until later or something.

This. They're meant to be more "generic", imo, in order for more people/playstyles to at least find them usable. Not everyone min/maxes or even min/maxes in the same way, and with the limited number of written-companions, they're going to be more general types (even if they do have a bit of initial focus) so they can be altered with equipment/leveling choices etc. to fit in with as many playstyles as possible, for those that want to experience their stories/quests. Idealized, super optimized parties is what the creating your own hirelings function is for.

Too much VO
LadyCrimson replied to Noin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'd guess it's a nod to the old text games of yore (and maybe some early graphic ones too). But yeah, I don't find the action-descriptors engaging myself - doesn't bother me personally, but I can see why some would find it distracting combined with the VO. What I found most distracting is when someone, a companion say, has a VO for all these bits you're clicking on, and suddenly you hit one within a thread that doesn't have a VO, and then it goes back to VO. Like some dialogue bits/options along a path were added in after the VO was recorded. Feels weird. -
Too much VO
LadyCrimson replied to Noin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
^ The chanter companion falls into this category as well, imo, but at least he's a little amusing. My fave is Eder and Aloth, probably because they make me laugh. I think they were voiced by the same VA? If so, that's always amazing since they sound nothing alike. -
Too much VO
LadyCrimson replied to Noin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
People/NPC dialogue's? No you don't. You just click the next option in the list that you want or Continue and it cuts them off in favor of the next. Click lots of times, and it's over in a flash. But I think the Act ones or a few others aren't skippable until you've listened to them at least once, maybe. My main issue is still reading speed vs. vocal speed. So I click Continue etc. a lot. I don't mind the voices/accents however - there's the occasional personal preference or dislike for certain chr. voices, sure, but that happens any any game, even the old BG games. Imoen's VO always made my ears hurt, for example. I much prefer laid-back, mellow voices. -
I've had Durance in my party for a while now and I've noticed every time I "talk" to him, there's a dialogue option that says "I need you to leave" or something like that. None of the other companions have this option. So my curiosity is wondering why he has that option. I haven't clicked on it yet because I was afraid he'd disappear forever or something, so anyone care to tell me what the deal is? Does it just open another convo or is it something else? ...although truth be told I'm kind of tired of his attitude. I may drop him in favor of a player-made priest instead.

I thought the t-shirts are nicely decorated but the material is thin. I was expecting a thicker material, like a Hanes T. Was there Female/Male sizing differentiation? I can't remember, if so maybe the guy shirts are thicker cloth? But I don't care, it's still the t-shirt I wanted. Hubby and I went to a lake in the Valley for a couple days, place which used to be our favorite but we haven't been in years. Because of the current drought, it's more like a puddle in the Valley, but that's exactly how we like it - we went once when water level was highish and didn't like it nearly as much. Times like these tho, you can drive down on what is usually the lakebed in some spots and camp out down there, feeling isolated/on the moon and by yourself while doing some shore-fishing and wading. Came back this morning to the march of PoE patch madness. Broke that online record again - 10000+, holy cow. They'd whipped the hamsters last week so 6000ish was speedy, but now my browser is all laggy, again.

Sound bug

At the moment, if you haven't already, turning off the tutorial tips option seems to solve this for some people. -
Physical Box Ship Date?
LadyCrimson replied to theADOLESCENT's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Just to remind people, the physical reward goods are being shipped without the game disc. Due to a poll and the results of that poll, the game disc is being shipped later, last I knew. But the current batch of physical reward shipping seems to very staggered. Some other people in Calif. got theirs before I did, for example. Why I have no idea...shipping routes/companies maybe. And no clue on Europe etc. -

Grosse Pointe Blank. Still one of my favorite comedy+action movies ever.

Well whaddya know - take the map out into the sun and it does look more distinct, colorwise. The ocean is sort of a muddy blue. Love our dim indoor lighting. So the pic I posted is a little more accurate than I thought. I'd post another pic but I figure no one cares. Make no mistake tho...the cloth itself isn't quality. Like a thin cheap handkerchief or bandana. I don't actually care about them myself, but they are more permanent and not subject to wear and tear in the way paper is (and folding creases, as mentioned). Although of course a good frame helps in either case. Cloth also doesn't have that "shiny" paper look/reflective aspect. Myself, I like parchment type paper.

I don't know if it's exactly the same, but there's been a lot of discussion on crashes in this area. Might want to look at this thread: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72016-raedrics-hold-game-crash/ A developer recently made a post in there that said they'd found the issue and a fix will be in the 1st post-launch patch. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72016-raedrics-hold-game-crash/?p=1613809

Certainly not when one is using a flash and/or typical home lighting that colorshades the image. You need some studio lights (or a homemade lightbox), and of course most of the time when ppl are doing that, they're aiming to make something look as good, vibrant and colorful as possible, which also isn't always "naked eye." Anyway, using a better camera, but a crap flash unit with poor indoor lighting (I'm too lazy to pull out my makeshift lightboxes...), I tried fiddling with the resulting terrible photos to see if I could at least get the map part of a photo to be closer to what I see with my eyeballs. Got kinda close on the land masses, but the flash (and editor fiddling) makes the water and PoE logo look a lot bluer/green than it really is - it's actually all largely shades of light brown (the van bench-seat the map is resting on is light blue IRL, heh). The mossy stuff under the logo is barely visible/has little contrast to the eye, because the browns are so closely matched. But if you picture the water as brownish, it's close-ish. Haha. The other pic is just a full-size crop for detail. eg, you can see the cloth grain. Maybe if you took the map into sunlight at noon, it'd look different/less all-brown. I dunno - it's 2am here, can't check.

Caed Nua Theme song?
LadyCrimson replied to Volteau's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Don't know why it's not in the OST but you can look in the game directory for it. Steam\steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\data\audio\mus\mus_final -
There is time limit to editing posts. I think it might be only a couple hours but it was implemented long enough ago that I can't remember if that's entirely correct.
