Journalism and bias in the gaming industry
LadyCrimson replied to Blarghagh's topic in Way Off-Topic
Yes, let's try that. Thread/image pruned. -
Yeah...I think most of the time it goes by whoever is closer to the found thingie at the time. So if you're using the whole party, stalking around, whoever is the one close enough to trigger the hidden object first gets the line. For disarming traps, whoever has the highest mechanics (or is closest, if more than one has it high enough) moves forward to disarm.

Late Act 2 and I have 37k - that's with buying a few cheaper things in stores as well as upgrading the Stronghold. I'll probably start enchanting more stuff soon. If you want to buy all the kewl stuff from every store, you'll feel poor. If you try upgrading the Stronghold early/from the beginning (and or skip a lot of quests that give you coin), you may feel poor for some time/it'll certainly slow down your ability to store-purchase items. I've found however, that you get rewarded or will loot plenty of decent items without resorting to store-buying or doing much enchanting. The only exception tends to be belts. I haven't run across those outside of the stores. Well, maybe one. Can't remember.

Just in case...in terms of traveling merchants you can look at/purchase their item directly from the Stronghold menu, from anywhere. No need to travel back to Stronghold to shop him personally. But even that doesn't help when I travel and arrive in a map only to immediately get 2 green Stronghold messages - one that tells me a merchant arrived to sell me an item, the other saying he left. Pretty useless.

The best thing about the Stronghold is what's underneath it. It's a nice idea and I do like the way they integrated the Endless Paths into it, but I really don't like micro-managing the raids, escorting/paying off visitors, or how I can miss the special vendors coming to offer me sales goods via the Stronghold menu because they apparently come and then depart during that "22 hours" of me transitioning from one map to another. I'm hardly ever there/go back there anyway, because I'm out...adventuring.

^ I've been curious about an all-melee party myself, except I keep thinking about more true melee - like all fighters and barbarians or something, vs. stuff like "melee ciphers." But I'd also agree that part of what can make game feel "easy" (Normal/Hard difficulty anyway) is a full party of six. It's interesting how something that felt fairly difficult with only three in your party suddenly becomes a relative breeze with six in your party (I've re-loaded quests to experiment with that and it's quite a difference). I keep trying to think of a 3 or 4 party make up for myself, but like you I haven't quite come up with what I want to use, yet.

No, I think you're probably right - it certainly makes sense. I likely just misinterpreted the way that roster menu works. I do stuff like that more and more often these days.

Cleaned house, squished a lot of black widows in the garage, a little PoE, more homebody thingies, stuffed my face on not quite burnt homemade pizza rounds, now going to watch an hour or two of TV, then more PoE. Although I'm getting eager to try the new version of 7 days to die as well, which came out a bit ago, too....
-
Nope! Homemade sourdough round pizza with mushrooms, tomatoes and ... pepperoni. Does that count?

Hm. I only saw an option to dump current party members into the Stronghold in favor of a new, which I thought meant I'd have to trek back to the Stronghold to switch them out again. Probably just missed seeing a button or something like that. Anyway I mostly didn't pick her up then because she force-encounter ambushed me in the middle of me wanting to travel here to there for a quest and I didn't want to spend time talking to her yet. >.>

So the paladin (I think?) companion was still nowhere to be found ... then I finally did some little quest related to that building where she showed up initially, and towards the end of that she popped in out of nowhere to be a part of it. Then she went to stand outside of said building and seems to remain there forever now, if I don't recruit her. An odd way to do things. What if one never did/accepted that quest? Then she's just gone forever? But good to know in case you accidentally say no to her initial approach - she does come back. If you do that quest anyway.

On hindsight I probably should have spent time splitting the thread up into two but my supper was starting to burn...

Patch Notes: 1.04
LadyCrimson commented on Darren Monahan's blog entry in Pillars of Eternity Support Blog
Aha, so that's why Durance isn't talking to me despite the quest log. I thought maybe it was all the ogre blood in my armor. Smelly stuff, hard to wash out. Sounds like a great list. -
This has got to be one of the strangest thread directional sprawls I've seen. Sausage worship and LGBT community discussion/debate/concerns should perhaps be left to separate threads, even in WoT. Feel free to make them if you wish, but I'm going to close this one.

What's on the idiot box Part 4 (or something)
LadyCrimson replied to LadyCrimson's topic in Way Off-Topic
I loved Dukes when I was a kid. My much older brother just raised his eyebrows at my dubious taste, but hey I was like 12-13 at the time. Good times. -
My husband does not adjust, he leaves. Although oddly, he's the sort who can jump into an almost-freezing temp. lake for a swim, yet will whine endlessly that he's freezing/too cold to do anything if it's 68F and the breeze is strong enough to ruffle his hair.
-
I like having a few points in Athletics simply because I get tired of everyone whining "I'm so sleepy, can we stop a while?" every time I travel a couple maps. Outside of that I don't see much use for it. I haven't been using spell scrolls at all yet so I have little use for Lore, but I do see a function for it on casters so they can cast spells when their spell limit runs out vs. only using a wand (eg, don't have to rest as often if you want). So important for caster usability. Stealth - I'm not a Rogue person so honestly I have little use for it. I've been pumping it a bit recently on one npc so I can get a little closer which as mentioned, is nice for positioning. But not terribly necessary except on maybe the hardest gameplay options, which I haven't bothered with yet. Not to mention the (occasional) scripted scene that negates it entirely regardless by positioning you where you were not, at the end of the dialogue trigger.

Heh, yup, I usually backpacked in warmer climates/elevations and seasons. Sometimes you'd get some rainshowers, that's about it.
-
^ See that's exactly what I love about camping/packing on that level. The views, or private little river pools/lakes all to yourself, and so on. You can't get that tenting in "Campsite #33" slot in some car campground. But it's too much bother for me now. So I just enjoy pictures of other people who still do it.
-
Yeah, exactly. Key phrase in there is "teenager and in my twenties." Hubby really hates driving RV/large vehicles and I don't even want to try, so mostly we just stay in hotels/cabins now. Or snooze in the back of the van/car for a few hours, because we rarely stop anywhere long enough to seriously set up "camp" anyway. Or just stay at home with the cat. Mostly the last one.

Computer Freezes UP:-(
LadyCrimson replied to rockmono's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Ah, ok. If that's the case, I'd say it's not GPU overheating in your case then. 56C for a GPU is nothing these days. My 6-fan-only cooled system runs at 65C-75C endlessly while gaming, that's just "normal" in most cases. And if your CPU temp is also actually in F, then that's not a high CPU temp either. So I'm not sure what's going on with the freezing, sounds different than the OP's. ...I guess it's the topic creator ( Vayhle ) who had the nvidia 500 series GPU and higher GPU temps (although 85C is still not extreme/not a reason for lockup itself, usually but I guess it's getting higher too?). I knew I saw that somewhere.
