  1. hmm...depends whether background information and such appeals to you. if you truly feel you need to know everything there is to know about the kotor series, then get kotor1 first. to be honest, if i had to get just one of the two, im not sure which one i would get. im partial towards kotor1, but kotor2 is sort of a more "updated" version of the kotor series storyline. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nights totally correct. KotOR1 is not needed for part two. Having said that tho, YES you should get part 1 first IMO! If for no other reason its a awsome awsome game and even a year after release worth a new game price (altho I doubt you will have to pay new game price). K1 does enhance K2 storyline somewhat tho as well Unlike Night I prefer part 2 to be honest, but when all is said and done, both games are top notch and worth the time to play
  2. If Obsidian had made a solid game then they wouldn't need all these people rushing to their defense. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I dont have the PC version so wont make any statements about how buggy or not buggy it is. I will mention the original posters claim doesnt seem to be backed up by the MAJORITY of the PC posters tho. I Do however want to touch on the idiotic statement Laozi made about why people come to Obsidians defence. *Speaking for myself* Im sick to death of whinners making up crap about games. Obsidian can defend themselves Im sure if they feel there is a actual problem. Im just tired of the vocal minority bashing games and making crap up. My Xbox version didnt CRASH once. Only bugs I encountered in 8 play throughs were 2 slow downs after extended periods of time playing and the handmaiden bug on the Ebon Hawk when dueling ONCE! My friends who purchased the game experienced no bugs. The huge majority of posters here experienced some but not a obscene amount of bugs. Yet there were always that small minority that bashed the game and made up bugs and crap about game! Pretty much everything these whinners say was a bug or unfinished quest turned out to be just them not paying attention to what was said in the game! So Laozi, you are 110% incorrect far as myself (and others Im sure, ive yet to see a blatent fanboi on this site to be honest) is concerned. Im not sticking up for Obsidian or coming to their defence! My ONLY purpose for CORRECTING false whine posts is so the OTHER players dont take those inaccurate posts at face value! And from what I have read of the others that come and correct the blatent bashing posts, it sounds pretty much like they tired of it to! PS: I had more problems with KotOR1 then I did with KotOR2. Neither game had serious game ending bugs though for me and both games were top notch products! By your logic I should have been stomping my feet over on Biowares site last year! If either game had been as buggy as the Diablo series of games or even remotely near MMORPG retail releases, I might have. But neither KotOR1 or 2 come even remotely close to those games for bugs.
  3. hmmmmmmm good news but strange its not covered by the more known and recognized computer gaming magazines. (personal veiw) Think ill treat this as rumor only until Obsidian or LA or a more wide spread major gaming magazine verifies it.
  4. Honestly I think its unfair to try and compare Talis to Perugus! I mean if your going by the FIRST opening sequence then it should be KotOR1 = Republic Ship KotOR2 = Peragus Not Talis! So the Poll should read KotOR1 = Republic ship AND Talis KotOR2 = Peragus AND ALL OF TELOS (citidal, surface, military installation, academy) Honestly I think KotOR2 wins BOTH examples tho to be honest! Far more opening content in either example for KotOR2. Talis was great, I loved it. But Telos told a much greater story and had far more area when the two compared.
  5. Not sure if this for Xbox or PC but like Random Evil Guy said, no bugs or glitchs (WTF is a glitch exactly btw????) No bugs or exploits in 8 playthroughs for me either. Thats not totally true, I did encounter the slow downs a couple times and the Handmaiden bug dueling her (where she and you cant be defeated even tho health under 0, reload fixed it tho) after long stretch of playing non stop. PS: Funny story! Friend who is a teacher in Korea got game last week and called me today regarding game! He encountered some things that web sites refer to as "BUGS". ROFLMAO! They were not bugs, he just missed the text part (IE: wasnt paying attention to what was said). After explaining those ecounters and such he admitted he remembered seeing the answers I spoke of and just didnt choose that route (IE: he knows where he went wrong). Thought it was hillarious tho that those items are refered to as KNOWN BUGS when in fact they not bugs at all!
  6. Totally disagree with you. First off none of us will know the sales until that info released but based on North American market alone I feel pretty secure in guessing there will be a K3. Also tho, how do you figure TSL didnt go over. Most reveiws I have read have it at a 8+ outta 10 stars, thats a good over all reveiw. Sure there were complaint posts but there were not that many really. Far less then most other releases out there. And for a sequel to a AWSOME game, far less then one would expect based on the expectations out there. Think you giving WAY to much credit to a small minority who were active dedicated posters posting the same thing over and over in multiple threads. Ill go as far to say there WILL be a K3 and if sales continue at current pace there will be a K4,5,6,7,8 as well! Market is run strictly on sales. KotOR series so far is a huge seller. Also its not fair to compare Xbox to Dreamcast. I use to run a fan site for gamers and had a agreement with Dreamcast regarding products and news. While I have nothing but respect for the Dreamcast sales reps I dealt with, the problems surrounding that product were far more involved then any one software product could cure. KotOR 3 might get made for Xbox 2, beyond that change tho thats it. K3 will get made and based on TSL sales in North America, it will sell huge as well! Actually Night, I remember seeing one ad on TV prior to release on Xbox. Agree tho they didnt push it very hard with advertising tho. Jag, someone else a couple weeks back posted the North American Xbox sales stats here (forget who). All I remember is the sales numbers were VERY VERY High! Even with out PC version and european version it was more then enough to validate a part 3. heh, Im not going to go search for a 2+ week old post on these boards when I cant even remember which of the forums it was in, but they were posted anyways
  7. Aye, both games are awsome I think K2 is slightly better then K1 just because of the more advanced storyline!
  8. When you posted this, WoW had only been released in the North American market. It will surpass L2 as it is released in Europe, Korea, etc. I believe (not 100% sure on this) that it already has far more players if you add in the EU/KR beta. Thats why I said North american market. Lineage, FFXI, L2 all preformed poorly in the north american market but do amazing numbers world wide. WOW is tops for North American market, not world wide tho. Also, you cant add in beta numbers as subscriptions, many who beta will not subscribe. No one knows how popular a game will be in a region until it releases. Simple as that. WoW can beat out L2 and FFXI, on the other hand it might not. Time will tell that story! It may indeed be devotion but it is not blind. Blizzard supports their titles better than any other company in the industry. I recognize that they are not supporting WoW as quickly as the public desires - both in terms of content and server stability - but the work is being done with as much fervor as pushing for a release. Only a Blizzard employee can state what you just did. Normal public would have no bases or knowledge of how much Blizzard is or isnt supporting their product behind the sceens. I will mention, regardless if you like (I dont) or hate WoW and/or blizzard. The game is 4 months old. Server stability should be completely fixed by now. Thats the same standard that applies to every other game out there from public expectations for a MMORPG. The fact its not just goes against your statement that Blizzard is supporting the game fully. Sorry, cant agree or support a different set of rules just because its Blizzard. No excuse what so ever for having server stability issues at this point in time. Thats the exact meaning of blind devotion im afraid! The connection you draw between SWG and WoW isn't really accurate. On the other hand, the situation is pretty close to what Everquest experienced - way more subscribers than the developers had planned for, resulting in server issues. Only connection Im drawing is both got a huge boost in initial subscriptions because of name recognition and not product quality. I beta tested WoW, its not a well put togather game imo. It brought exatly 0 new ideas to the genre. It dumbed down the learning curve and ruined game play by doing that. Its got cartoon graphics (some like, I dont, personal opinion). If WOW was made by any other company except Blizzard or Bio Ware it would have 1/3 the initial subscriptions it has. Only Bio ware and Blizzard have the strong followings tho to attract players from outside the MMORPG genre into it (thats not a insult at Blizzard or Bio Ware btw). Any other company out there would not have had the initial sales because any other company out there would be judged on the game rather then the company rep. Back when I was beta testing WoW, I had people NOT BETA TESTING argueing with me on VN boards telling me what the game was like! Im talking like 50 -60 replies. All from non beta testers who defended the game like they would defend a new born child, just because it was a Blizzard product! Of course Blizzard got alot of people from company rep only! As I said tho, visit any other games message boards and you will see the posts becoming more and more frequent titled "Back from WoW" or similar. The bleeding has started, how deep it runs is anyones guess at this time but it definately has started! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> PS: for the other poster that spoke about only going off message boards. No I dont do that, I watch message boards, official sites, and 2 different subscription analist sites for information. Fact is message boards only represent maybe 5% to 10% of the actual subscription base in general and even then its mostly reflected towards the pro pvp crowds. (IE: pro pvp make up for a larger % of board users then they represent in a game). But when you see the same topic reused over and over by different posters that it becomes a REAL trend. One can make the assumption that that topic reflects a larger percent then just board users. Take the Obsidian boards for example. The most agreed upon complaint is the end of KotOR2 was less then expected or wanted. Obviously the board readers here DONT even represent enough to qualify them as a minority when the whole population counted. But Obsidian can gather from these boards that since so many are in agreement that the ending was infact somewhat less then expected. Its safe to say for each post here there is anywhere for 10-1000 others not posting that feel the same way! So when you have a clear cut trend happening on message boards (again, clear cut, not one here and one there) EDUCATED assumptions can be made that it reflects far more then just the 50 people posting here. Same goes for MMORPG, when you can see a CLEAR trend of "back from WoW" or "Leaving WoW" of mass multiple posters, you can in fact see a patern that goes well beyond just the posters. If it was a post here and a post there, thats a different topic all togather. But board trends that are clearly identifiable do in fact represent PLAYER ATTITUDES in many cases. That explaination enough for you?
  9. I think hes speaking about the locked storage door (1 of 3 doors in room T3 starts in). In other words you need to read the text when you goto the door the first time. It clearly tells you that a explosive charge would be needed to open the door. You find the exposive charge in one of the areas you have to explore with T3. Thats how you open the door! Highers security skill will not help you and T3 has enough demolision at level 3 to use the explosives once you find them. Just read the hints and clues the game drops for you.
  10. It must be great to make up a bunch of lies and call them facts. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> what lies? WoW is the number one mmorpg on the north american market (not world wide, Lineage2 holds that honor). WoW has between (depending on whose numbers you believe) 550k to 750k subscriptions. 550k puts it in EQ1 range, 750k puts it slightly over eq1 range. WoW is only 4 months old. Beta ended 4 months ago brainiac. Ok if you want to count beta in its live span its 12 months old. Personally I only count games once they go to retail, not their alphas and beta test times. WoW is already experiencing subscription losses. Read boards, articles, or the MMORPG subscription web site for validation of that statement. The evidence is there in clear veiw for you IF you choose to read it. Sure you can ignore it (which your obviously doing) but YOU ignoreing the facts doesnt make them made up or false! If your argueing the part about name recognition, grow up! The number one excuse for overlooking WoW faults given is "Its Blizzard, they will fix it" over the web. That is blind devotion at its most clearist. WoW got a huge boost to initial subscriptions because its a Blizzard product, just the same as SWG got a huge initial subscription base because it was Star Wars. Name recognition goes along ways in initially helping a game. After a period of time tho the game has to stand on its own. SWG is scrambling now due to all the cancellations they experienceing. WoWs not been out long enough for it to be in same boat but cracks already showing. So guess my question for you is WHAT LIES? Must be nice to make up a false statement to accuse others of lieing with out validating or proving your own statement what so ever.
  11. Id say most combat is relatively easy BUT there is situations where you will be challenged. (entering the Outside area of the Telos Military camp, fighting all of the handmaidens, duel against Sith Lord Vrook). Pick and choose GOALS you want to make sure you finish each game is what I did to make each play through interesting. The str of KotOR2 is its storyline, when you can accept that is when you will get full enjoyment of of the game. This isnt Halo where each level can be challenging and the storyline is optional or through away, its the reverse of that. The combat isnt the big deal, the storyline is. First game I just wanted to learn game. 2nd game I wanted to unlock all the lightside members stories. 3rd game I wanted to unlock all the darkside stories 4th game i tried female lightside 5th game I tried female darkside 6,7,8 games i picked up areas I had missed before (or specific encounters/cutscreens/dialogs). Doing that kept the game fresh and interesting for me for all 8 play throughs. Now Im taking a break and will try a 9th play through at a later date. To me tho, 8 play throughs is awsome value for a game. Also I always play councilor (which is the hardest difficulty, not sentinal).
  12. well, at least you earned a little extra XP. (Unlike those worthless Swoop Races) Thanks for the info! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Swoop races aren't worthless. I got about 7000 credits. 7000 credits=tons of medpacks=broken down into tons of components= cool lightsaber parts. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 99 times outta 100 I stick up for Obsidian and KotOR2. But gotta say, I didnt like the new swoop racing what so ever and never actually bothered to compete in it after initial trial of it in any of my games. Much prefered KotOR1 swoop racing by a HUGE freaking margin.
  13. Aye beat them all. I maxed out my unarmed combat for the early fights and Force Scream for the later one. 750 xp nice but was kinda a let down to be honest. Expected more content or goodies for defeating them to be honest.
  14. Commadore 64 era for sure! Massive amount of games that were fun to play. Computer games have never matched the shear amount of fun titles since then
  15. hmmmmmm, well to me a cut screen is exactly that, when the game CUTS to a different screen and plays a short movie. I thought the cut screens were fantasically done (same as Part 1s were). They added to the immersion of the game, added to the storyline, were relivant and nicely made. Not sure what else you could ask for. Ive seen other games that people liked that had by far and away worse cut screens that were in there just for filler sake and offered up nothing towards the storyline. So gotta say Obsidian and Bioware should both be complimented for doing a quality job. As for backgrounds? I think Knights 2 was done better. I didnt run into any missing graphics that were just a black hole (to look at) like I did in Part 1, So what were you looking for? The backgrounds fit the area you were in, were drawn nicely, looked great. Thats all I expect from backgrounds to be honest.
  16. heheh cant vote cause you left out my answer! I dont think the game went bad, just the ending (Malacor 5 on) was somewhat a let down. I actually liked the Ravager part of story. Like others I wish Nim had played a larger role but the actual Ravager sequence was pretty well done (the meditation chamber for Visas was great and added to the storyline ALOT). Same goes for Dant, while the Jedi Council didnt truely make a great amount of sence to me (as a LS jedi), and Vrook is a SITH, it still wasnt terrible (the cut screen as you enter the enclave area was fantastic). The battle from one end of Telos to tthe other was kinda a waste but it was short so forgivable. That just leaves Malacor V and the Sith Temple that were let downs really.
  17. Your lucky, your just missing them! Trust me, there has been a ton of threads regarding romance!
  18. Overall : Yes 1) Neverwinter Nights (Original on AOL 15 years ago), 1st MMORPG made (Biowares NWN would probably come in around 30th - 40th spot on my list). 2) Civilization 3 (with both expansions) 3) KotOR2 4) KotOR1 5) ANY SSI Gold Box game (AD&D RPGS) 6) Original Might and Magic 7) World Games (old game for C64 and Apple 2e computers) Rollercoaster Tycoon (with expansions) 9) Civ 2 Test of Time 10) Heros of Might and Magic (2 or 3) Ive played probably around 300-400 games over all the years but those 10 definately lead their respective feilds/genres for me.
  19. PS: DONT use stimilants! If you use them before instigating the combat they will be stripped off you when combat starts (so you wasted them, you can verify this by seeing the little arrows on your character are no longer appearent when combat starts, same thing happens for the duels in the Telos Academy btw), if you try to use them during combat she will end the combat because you cheated! Stimulants DO work vrs the Mandalorians tho for the dueling pit.
  20. First game I had a hell of a time beating her, just have to keep trying im afraid. Only thing I noticed was dont use the same attack more then 2 times in a row. As for hints 2,3,4,5,6,7, and 8th games I took unarmed combat tasks only until I had all 3 prior to reaching the academy! This helps a ton for the handmaiden, your hand to hand duels on Dunx, AND for beating the sisters while in the academy. Thats really the only trick I learned. Toughness also helps if you have a free task or two.
  21. seen the option but no, never did it. Shes just to damn sexy to be sacraficed! Now if only I could have sacrafied GoTo!
  22. Wow I have no idea what you are talking about. Is this about Kotor II? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Naaa he/she speaking about Republic Commando Brann. RP demo was included in the KotOR2 xbox disk.
  23. Okies statements like this annoy me. While SOE DROPPED the ball huge on SWG (altho REAL gamers will know most of the blame can go to Ralph Koser of Ultima fame), SOE is not the devil. Like any MMORPG company out there currently (INCLUDING BLIZZARD) they have many many faults, but unlike Blizzard they are a leading force in the creation of NEW ideas and concepts as well. Their EQ remains one of the best MMORPG ever created. EQ2 from all "serious" reports sounds to be a awsome game with much thought put into its details. For anyone with even a moderate amount of knowledge regarding the MMORPG genre, its obvious that once again SOE created new ideas and concepts in EQ2 that will be widely used and copied in the next few years as new games get created. WOW's claim to fame is they created a game that copies everyone else, added NO new or creative content, and even managed to fumble the ball there. WoW, is only 4 months old and already encountering a huge cancellation rate because of the lack of thought put into it. WOW might be the most popular (in North American markets) at the moment, the god honest truth is people are now getting over their Blizzard love fest and finding a very poorly designed, low on content game. Make no mistake hear, SOE screwed up SWG but good! As a older more experienced gamer I can see that many of the mistakes happened because SOE hired the much over rated Ralph Koser who rather then design a true MMORPG to do SW justice, just copied and pasted the failing UO template, upgrading graphics. SWGs failure is as much Ralph Kosers fault as it is the extreamly poor developement team SOE has working on it. But 1 game doesnt solidify a reputation for a company (except it seems for WOW fanboi's who are the dredge of the MMORPG community) when they have many more products on the market. EQ, EQ2, Planetside are all immensly popular titles to those masses that play them and point blank prove SOE has a clue as to what they are doing in the genre. They all (excluding EQ2 as a new release) have proven the test of time and them some. Right now WoW is popular because its a Blizzard product, it has not passed the test of time tho. And a REAL AND VALID arguement can be made that since its ONLY (continuously repeated) strenght is its a Blizzard product (rather then actual ingame strenghts), It doesnt seem to have the endurance to last the test of time! PS: As I know (from experience) that people will point out the subscriptions WoW currently has, let me say this. Initial sales are awsome and great, but holding those subscriptions long term is what makes a MMORPG a success. The bleeding has already started for Blizzard in regards to WOW (as was predicted by long time players who saw the many faults WOW had in beta). And even the inital sales dont even come close to EQ1 levels or Asian market levels.
  24. You may trvialize my response if you like... it's no matter. For some the game was marginal, for some it was a waste of time, and for others it exceeded their expectations. And I wouldn't consider 35 as "old"... neither will you when/if you get there. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> heheh Akshara, Aye, imagination seems to be lost on todays gamers. The majority seem to get upset unless its follow the dots to the end in games. Really drives me nuts when I see a game that had so much potential be dumbed down (not speaking KotOR1&2). I used Halo in a different thread as a example, huge selling game, very very popular. For myself tho, I found the storyline so "optional" that it wasnt even needed. You could just ignore it and go mass kill things with no repercussions. Thats the best example of a game being dumbed down to meet market expectations Ive seen. Ahhh well, hopefully KotOR franchise will continue on its current path and keep making and expanding on the storylines so it once again gets up to the older RPGs in content Some will hate that every single thing isnt explained in full detail, but others (based on some great conversations found on these forums) will embrace it and let their imaginations fill in the blanks, and be the better for it over all
  25. /shrug For me I liked KotOR1&2 combat. Twitch based games hold no interest for me. Id argue till blue in the face those that claim twitch styles are skill based, they are not. They are simply hand eye coordination. Nothing beyond that what so ever. Having hand eye coordination doesnt require skill. Knowledge of a game and items, using different tactics for different fights, playing to your strenghts of a character to minimize your weaknesses of a character are skill. Button mashing isnt. I hope Obsidian (or how ever does part 3) doesnt tweak the engine and style of game to much as that would cause many people to become disenchanted with the game. While its true KotOR1&2 main strenght is storyline and atmosphere, those are not its only strenghts. Current engine and combat design also weigh in heavily on the plus side for sales of the game!
