heheh well in a sence yes that what I mean. Basically what I mean by smart evil is finding new ways to advance your cause with out running around killing everyone and foaming at the mouth Manipulative would be a good word for it. Kreia (if she was truely evil) would be a smart evil, Sion or Malak wouldnt be. Naaaa, people just use to follow the dots. Hey I did it as well first time through knights 2, then I realized I had missed a ton of content and paid more attention the next time through. Thats not design problems, thats just what players use to now adays and Obsidian broke away from that and tried to challenge you somewhat. I seriously think Knights 2 is the more advanced game in terms of storyline and character interaction. Players (myself included) just have to break old habits is all. True Bioware didnt have the complaints, but ask yourself this. If Obsidian had made KotOR1, would they have had complaints for it? Of course not, KotOR1 was a return to GOOD RPGs after a long long time of less then quality RPGs were the common product. In a sence KotOR1 revitalized the genre. KotOR2 is just as good as KotOR1, but it has the distinct missfortune of being a sequel so is judged not on the regular RPG curve by players but on a much high scale. KotOR1 wouldnt be the rah rah rah great game it is if it had been the sequel product either. There was no way KotOR2 could stand up to the out of reach expectations players had for it. People didnt want "as good as first one" they wanted better then first one. And Knight1 was a damn good game. Its funny, I experienced more game stopping bugs in part 1 (lock ups and such, graphic glitchs, stuff like that). It wasnt a perfect product by any stretch but it was the FIRST of a return to traditional style RPG. It was fun in a genre that had become not so much fun over the years. There is no way any follow up product can stand up to the hype surrounding kotor1 (real or imagined). The fact that KotOR2, for the most part, equaled part 1 is a real accomplishment. Anyways, sure there have been more complaints about KotOR2, as there will be more complaints about KotOR3, no follow up game in the series will ever match the magic that surrounded KotOR1, because part 1 is and always will be the first one released and first one to create the experience. That type of memory can never be challenged! If kotor 1 had been lesser of a game then maybe Kotor2,3,4 could do things to beat it out, but kotor1 was a awsome awsome game, the best Obsidian can do (realisticly) is match the success, they have done this and as you see "some (not all, not even a majority, not even close to a majority) feel it wasnt enough. Its a no win situation for Obsidian, no matter what they do, every thing will be under the microscope and over analyzed to death. The other issue at play here is blind moronic loyalty. While im not accusing you of this, take a look at Ephany (or how ever she spells it). Lets assume for one sec that KotOR2 is riddled with bugs and glitchs and game stopping issues. The over all impression by gamers is its still a great game! But for this "fan" the fact its not done by Bioware is enough reason to constantly bash Obsidian and Knights 2 into the ground never saying even one single solitary postive thing about the game! And no matter what Obsidian does or doesnt do, she will continue to make crap up and bash them at every opertunity. Has nothing what so ever to do with the game, how it runs, how good or bad it is, it only has to do with who made it. Since it wasnt Bioware it must be crap. Obsidians not the first company to face this challenge and im sure will not be the last, but there is no way they can ever satisfy that type of gamer (short of Bioware retaking over, which isnt going to happen). The sad thing is tho, those negative people that spend all their time whining and complaining effect others, you hear her bitch enough and soon your LOOKING (even if unconsiously) for faults! If you go looking for faults, you will always be able to find them, in anything, be it computers game, work, school, politics, what ever. Nothing is ever perfect! Knights 1 didnt face that type of obstical because it was the first one, there was nothing out there (no knight 0, no different company, nothing) to base the negativity on. Point is to the long drawn out post (sorry about that) is nothing Obsidian does will ever match the magic of the first and original game of the series. The first game was a major success and left very little room for improvement. Thats a credit to Bioware. Obsidian has put out a product that is as strong as the first one (not better but not worse) (and thats a credit to Obsidian) and you can see the critism and over analyzing thats happening. Thats why you have more complaints! Read the complaints tho, they are petty things and almost always done in a comparisson to the original game. Thats a battle Obsidian will never win no matter how good the current or new game is. Its inflated perception vrs current product! As I said, I purchased my Xbox brand new last year to play kotor1, I encountered more game stopping bugs in knights 1 (game stopping, not game eliminating) then I did in knights 2. I love both games tho, they both top quality games. But if you go on actual play vrs actual play, knights 1 had the more bugs but less complaints as it was brand new and FUN! Knights 2 is fun but its a sequel, hense the more complaints!

Waiting for the PAL-release, anyone else?
Kalfear replied to -Jinrai-'s topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Darkside friendly, yaaa I think thats fair. But to be totally honest, I have played through 8 times now and played LS male/female and DS male/female and the game seems to flow the smoothest as a LS male character. Thats just my opinion tho, might just be my preference for playing a goodie shinning through -
I have to say Nar Shadaar as well, just for the fact that it was the size all planets should be at a minimum. Thats really the only carry over complaint I had about game (parts 1 and 2) Many of the planets were just to small.

heh, its a interesting side story really. Handmaiden is oath sworn to NOT train in the ways of the Jedi. So really if you agree to train here in the force but not by the jedi code she has not broken her oath. If you agree to train her as a sith, she has not broken her oath (but why would you care if your DS) so she only breaks the code if you train her as a jedi. I was kinda disappointed in this one, I expected a Dark Side hit if you agreed to train her as a jedi (as you are knowingly convincing her to break her oath) but that didnt happen. The other string is also interesting where you refuse to train her, this is where what Kreia tells you comes into play were its no longer your choice and the handmaiden basically forces (convinces) you to train her. Of all the strings you can follow there I liked the last one the most BTW, Kreia doesnt hate you for training her, Kreia understands that your force bonding is at work here and you really have no choice in the matter.

Jeff again those are not fair complaints. There is multiple situations in KotOR2 were you dont have to be a bully as a DS character and can do the evil but "smart" thing to do. This not a spoiler forum so I wont go indepth but there was ALOT of situations were you could play the smart evil in KotOR2. Sad truth is tho (if you ever played any MMORPGs, most folks that play evils in games play them as bullies. I have been playing MMORPGs for 14 years and have alpha / beta tested like 95% of the MMORPGs made over those years and the last time I can think of a clear example of a non bully evil (ones that used intellect rather then brute strenght) was 12 years ago. I use MMORPGs as a example because those games have player interaction and allow for people interested in playing the smart evil to do so if they so desire. People just choose not to. Im quite sure Bioware and Obsidian are aware of this fact. Would it be a nice option? Sure it would. Woukd it work? I doubt it. Just look at these forums for all the posts about "broken" quests. Turns out those quests not broken, people just didnt pay close enough attention to the choices and messed up, then came here yelling about quests being broken and not doable. Just imagine the sort of trouble that would arrise if Obsidian redesigned evils to more then just bullies. Much as I enjoy playing a thinking evil character, gotta go with simple over complexity here. Obsidian (or Bioware) would just be opening the door for mass complaints it they treated evils in any other fashion.

There was no romance between Atris and the Exile, but it is hinted that Atris wanted one deep down inside. Handmaiden suggests this when she asks Atris those questions after your first meeting with Atris. Handmaiden reinforces this when you read her thoughts much later on in game. Just something that was hinted at, was made clear tho there never was any romance or such type thing between Atris and the Exile tho.

Considering I personally have played it start to finish 8 times now. 6 different friends have played it start to finish multiple times. And even one of us is yet to find a SINGLE game stopping bug, you can bet your bottom dollar I would buy KotOR3 in a heart beat! The absolute worst thing in terms of bugs found by any of us was occational slow downs (about 3 per total gaming experience in one complete play through). There is no major bugs in KotOR2. 90% of the complaints about bugs have been people just not paying attention to what was said and not being able to figure out the quests because of that. Now granted there does seem to be a major tie in to bugs when people use the different exploits to be found, but to me thats a bonus, not a negative. Those exploits were designed for programers to test different areas of the game quickly. They were never intended as a option for play (or they would be listed in the options area with a setting for you to choose). Since I (or any of my friends) ever use said exploits, they dont effect our gaming experience what so ever. There have been some random bug reports but strangly they are not consistant for all users. This suggests either 1) the hardware/software was altered (modded, not Obsidians fault), 2) the bug isnt really a bug (but a situation not properly being described or outlined, again not Obsidians fault), or 3) it never happened at all and is entirely false and made up (sadly there is 4 major posters here that fit this catagory, again not Obsidians fault). PS: I assume by "friends" you mean party members (as KotOR2 is not a multi-player game). The final stage of game was designed as a solo test, why WOULD you be allowed party members when doing solo content???? Sorry that makes no sence! You have party members on the Ravager so that leaves Malacor V as the only ending area you have to go solo. Also, sure there is no story on Malacor V, but there IS a workbench right before final 2 bosses so you can use it to make what you need at that moment. Since Malacor V is a waste land its kinda to be expected there is no friendly merchant for you to buy and sell with. Maybe its just me but I would have been pissed if there WAS a merchant to sell to on that wasteland of a planet. Also, while ill never say the ending was groundbreaking or awsome, it was in fact better then a large amount of games on the market currently. So its not as bad as you make it sound. It was a average ending. Getting a average ending on a well well well above average everything else sounds like a good bargin to me personally. Sure it would be nice to get a better ending but to not buy a sequel because the ending wasnt super awsome (as stated the rest of game was) is setting the bar pretty damn high and unrealistic dont you think??? If thats what you deemand from ALL gaming companies (or you wont buy game) means you wouldnt support a single other game on market as KotOR2 is the best game for 2004 by a huge margin. Its actually a shame that topics like this are posted as it makes people think there is issues were there is actually NO real issue. If the game was as buggy as some people make it out to be, Everyone would be experienceing these bugs (we all have Xboxs and we all run the same game, hense the so called bugs should be repeatable for each and every person that plays the game. NO so called bug falls into that catagory yet with the exception of slow downs (freezing up momentarily). And as I answered above, the merchant thing is just silly. The wanting party members while doing solo content is just silly, and the ending complaint is actually really unfair (as no other games released in 2004 can stand up to the higher standards that KotOR2 is forced to stand up to, its unfair and unrealistic). Welp, I havent been in school for many many years (unless you count my legal studies from home but thats just for learning sake) I think my previous schooling and 25 years in Hotel/Customer Service Management qualifies me as KNOWING the Practical side of bussiness as well as the theory side (sorry Jeff, your going to find there is alot more to bussiness then what your taught in books once yas out of school and into the real world) so here is my big topic. -Obsidian, please please please make the game you planed to make. -Read the comments on boards sure, but you have proven yourself with KotOR2 and that the series is safe in your hands. -Make the game you planned to make and dont add in stuff you had no intention of adding in just because its on the forums. I loved KotOR1 from Bioware and was PLEASENTLY SURPRISED to find I love KotOR2 just as much. -I recently cancelled both of my SWG accounts because SOE listened to a select minority of board posters and ruined their game completely and totally. DONT allow this to happen to the KotOR series. -Your doing (and did) a awsome job and are already on the right track, dont waiver off it. Stay true to your bussiness model and creative ideas

Question: Why was Darth Nihilus hyped so much
Kalfear replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Simple, for marketing purposes because he looked the coolest! Same goes for Atris, didnt have a huge role in game but had the looks. Like it or not, Appearence (looks) sells. LA knows this all to well so people would have thought they crazy if they didnt use the best look to market around. -
Weird. I got more than enough influence with her just talking to her on Ebon Hawk, all in once conversation. I didn't have to do any of that. I am playing light side again, so I will tell you what I did when I get there. One thing is that when she agrees to let you teach her, she doesn't just become a jedi right then like the other do. You have to take her back to Nar Shaddaa, right outside of the Entertainment Sector where Kreia gave you that vision about the "real Nar Shaddaa". She will get a similar vision and then will become a Jedi Sentinel. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Same here, always got more then enough influence just speaking to her. Never had any issues turning her into a jedi.
-
Well far as speaking to Atton, yes he goes into much more detail but his "were not ready for that conversation yet" is YOUR cue that you need more influence with him. So you need to gain influence with Atton to get him to finish his story. (not flaming but honestly I feel that was really really obvious to be honest). PS: That part of Attons story has nothing to do with the romance between him and female character btw. That part is needed to make Atton become a Jedi. Thats a strange way to look at it. How much farther could they go with out both characters ripping off their cloths and you charging up her loading ramp???????? The looking at each other through the force was meant to be a VERY personal and intimate moment between the 2 characters. It was much better done then the cut to blank screen kiss and telling Bastila you loved her. I really dont see what you expected Obsidian to do or how far they were suppose to go here. The looking at each other through the force was MEANT to be as intimate a act as making love. /sarcasm Maybe Obsidian needs to put out a NR18 patch that gives people nudity to get their point across? /end sarcasm Same goes for the duels with the handmaiden. Dueling to her people are acts of intimisy. Kreia asks you if 'you understand what it would mean if you beat the handmaiden totally and completely and her giving herself over to you", after the first duel. This should be went the lights go on and you understand the nature of the duels! Like veiwing each other through the force is to Visas, beating the handmaiden in the duels (totally and completely dominating her) is meant to be acts of intimacy akin to making love. True the Mira love story didnt advance as far as it should have, cant disagree there. But Im really starting to wonder if anyone bothered to read what you were saying and being said to you in this game! It was really layed out very well and with a inventive subilty obviously lost on many people. Both love stories regarding Handmaiden and Visas went well beyond the standard generic love story of Revan/Bastila. You just needded to read what was said and see the acts for what they were.

Waiting for the PAL-release, anyone else?
Kalfear replied to -Jinrai-'s topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Have no fear Jinrai, The game is awsome and well worth the wait. If you pay attention to who is posting the negative stuff yas will see its the same 4 people just posting same garbage over and over and never backing up their opinions with facts. TSL however is DIFFERENT then part 1. 1) The storyline is much more involved so you really have to pay attention to whats said and remember it (not paying attention or remembering is the number one problem regarding these so called bugged quests. All the info is there to be gotten, just need to think). 2) I found I had a better relationship with part 2 characters (I started to actually care about them as character. In part 1 I only really cared about Bastila, Carth, Mandalore, and myself). 3) Party members stories are tied into the main storyline. Many folks miss the seperate npc storylines for each party members from part 1 (side stories that dont effect main story what so ever). This time around its ALL Relevant which I loved about Part 2. 4) Its a more mature game. Part 1 was great but it was very very basic writing as far as the storyline went. Part 2 is much more adult content that makes you think (anouther reason why some folks had serious troubles with quests and storyline). The only true downside to game is the ending. The ending could have been done much much better but if you veiw it fairly, its still not the worst ending ever published in a RPG, just its not the best either. I think people had such a high standard for KotOR series they judge it alot harsher then other stuff. The fact that KotOR2 has (for the most part) sttod up to that harsher standards should answer all your questions on if its a good game! In closing, you WILL enjoy this game! Its not better or worse then the original one, its different! Its strenghts come from the storyline and interaction rather then the end cut screen. Combat and other things like that still pretty much the same -
You can also go kill the droid merchant (that you spoke to to get the droid for the repair guy). He is a member of the exchange so that sends them a message as well. Pay 2000 credits to the little furry guy outside the Paazaak den. Fix the droid in the pazaak den. Along with blowing up the swoopbike droid! Also, goto the Jek Jek Tar and wander around it speaking to the guests (they hate humans in there, expecially you). No set encounters but this is what I did to get the exchange message in my first game (a npc tipped me off that the cliental of the Jek Jek Tar hate humans so since its exchanged owned it only makes sence when looking for attention). These are 5 things most players over look that are also tied to the exchange storyline. Other more coomonly known ones are: Side with the female rodant vendor (egg the male on on to go tell the exchange about you). Refuse to give up Ebon Hawk (which you have done if you have finished Red Sun battle). Kill exchange leader for the refugees.

I had this happen to me once as well. I think what happened is (this was my case anyways) you agreed to train her when the time is right. So in choosing this you have agreed to respect her oath to Atris, hense she will follow you but you will not train her in Jedi ways until Atris is no longer in the picture (Which means not during this game as from the Atris final meeting on is specific encounters you do not control). You will notice that after the meeting you never got the betreyal cut screen that you do when Handmaiden is truely turned to study as a jedi. As different poster stated, use a older saved game file and then be more careful on the conversation choices you make when getting Handmaiden to break her oath and study the jedi trainings
-
I choose not to hear it first time but when I saw how it ended so fast after that I replayed from last save to enquire about the futures. Ive kinda mellowed regarding the end now, its still not a great ending but I definately have seen worse as well. So in the end it was just a average ending at best.

what do ur prefer jedi or sith?
Kalfear replied to jedi_master_05's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Jedi all the way LOL, might sound silly but after playing MMORPGs for 14+ years, I just cant seem to bring myself to be cruel or mean to other players (after seeing how so many others gain some sorta glee or assumed power outta mistreating others in game). That trait has now carried over to offline RPGs. I just no longer feel all that comfortable being mean and nasty in any games. *that doesnt mean I dont try the Dark Side in Knights 1 and 2, just I find myself much more involved in the game when playing lightside* Besides, being evil is easy and unchallenging. It takes no imagination for a person to be evil in games (online or offline), being a true goodie is much harder and more challenging in the long run -
TSL is best played as a DS or LS character?
Kalfear replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I think both KotOR1 and 2 are more fitted to playing a lightside Male to be honest! The story just flows alot smoother imo. I have tried both games as darkside male and female and while still great games, the over all storyline seemed alot more choppy in places. -
Its kinda a cliff hanger, kinda not. You basically find out what KotOR3 should be about and your role in it (if Obsidian goes that direction). Far as current storyline goes, its not a cliffhanger. Not the best ending but not the worst ever either So take that as what you will, didnt want to spoil it for anyone

Nar Shaddaa glitch ==> Worst Glitch in Gaming?
Kalfear replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Think hes speaking about the exchange getting ahold of him. Frankly I have played the game from start to finish 8 different times and only the first time through did I have to wait for exchange to contact me (but that was my own fault (NOT A BUG) as I ended up helping and hurting the exchange about equally. Had I payed more attention to what was said and what I was doing it wouldnt have been a issue). This just anouther one of those cases where there is no actual bug but because things not working out exactly as player wants them to, its called a bug. It seems to me (personal opinion) that 95% of the so called bugs in KotOR2 end up falling in one of three catagories 1) Player wasnt reading the messages as completely as they should 2) Player used some form of exploit or cheat early on (I have a theory after reading these boards that using the cheats and exploits cause many of the listed bug as those that dont use them seem to have much less trouble over all), 3) Person just hates Obsidian. (the last 5% being actual slow downs and legit bugs in game). Im guessing this person falls into number 1 catagory, just stay consistant (either help or dont help exchange) and they will contact you in short order. -
Tired of XBOX getting everything first
Kalfear replied to Darth Chunkinator's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
LOL, doesnt bother me at all. When it got to the point I was missing out on stuff I just went out and got a XBox Glad I did to, I actually find I prefer my offline RPGs on XBox over the PC to be honest. TV is much larger then my PC Monitor, Sofa much more comfortable then my PC chair, and Coffee machine closer Win win win situation for me PS: Altho I refuse to get Xbox Live, multiplayer is where the PC comes in! Offline is the XBoxes strenght! -
Don't remember the early parts of the story
Kalfear replied to Rann Starkiller's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Okies now we in proper forum Kreia was hunting the Exile and came across him by luck (she admits as much) when she heard you were on the Harbringer. When she came aboard the Harbringer it was already under attack by the sith (whom she didnt realize were aboard already). She found you unconsious in the hanger bay storage (you were placed there by the HK droid) and moved you aboard the Ebon Hawk. Thats how she found you and how you came to be on the Ebon Hawk. -
Well then her training and protecting the Exile doesnt make any sence then as he is also atuned to the force. As is Revan whom she holds in very high regards and is very much alive from what she knows. If she was out to destroy all the force, the Exile and Revan would also be veiwed as people that should be destroyed! Its a contradiction, if she really is out to destroy all the force then she CANT pick and choose which force users to destroy. If you see what Im getting at here.

Should KOTOR 3 even be a sequel to KOTOR 2?
Kalfear replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Hard to say Night. I personally dont think KotOR is a accurate depiction of the Star Wars market. Take myself for example, I play KotOR series because its a RPG game, not because its Star Wars. I tried the republic demo after finishing KotOR2 and it fell into my exact catagory of what I think of most star Wars games.....crap (more FPS garbage). KotOR has managed to cross over and grab players that traditionally dont play Star Wars games. So while I think they COULD work on parts 3 and 4 of the KotOR series at the same time, it stops at that. It doesnt mean Commando 9082501293560139561903 of the Republic will sell anywhere near what KotOR does. Also, while not directly connected, one has to also take into account how many people are getting turned off on star wars gaming because of the shabby job Sony Online is doing with Star Wars Galaxies. I can say with out a doubt if I played SWG BEFORE KotOR1, I probably would never have purchased Knights1. Different companies sure but one does effect the other in terms of the genre. As it stands, KotOR2 forced me to cancel my SWG accounts because while one product was like 95% (i never give 100%) the other was like 30% and it was just so obvious. With out see KotOR2 and what Star Wars COULD be, I probably would be trudging away in SWG as we speak. Anyways, I think LA and Obsidian just playing it careful and smart at the moment. KotOR series may be a success, that doesnt mean anything else will be. And they dont want to burn everyone out on the series to fast by overloading the market. -
Well how she pursued the exile and how the exile ended up on board the Ebon Hawk are explained early into the story of KotOR2 (sorry not a spoiler Forum so wont go more indepth). Also, I wouldnt say she manipulates the exile to destroy all force users. You do still have a choice on going lightside or dark side in the game. I know as lightside I sure wasnt responcible for any force users deaths other then boss NPCs and such. So to say your manipulated into destroying the force users is incorrect. In a different thread awhile back I said, I think "in you" Kreia sees the death of the force as it is today, not the actual force itself. Right now force users are born with ties to the force, a birthright that makes many of them arrogent and singleminded. The exiles str with the force comes from experience and confrontation. So in the exile, Kreia sees a new type of force user whos more open minded so to speak. Doesnt cling to old rituals that have nothing to do with the force. Honestly in the end I veiwed Kreia much the way I veiw people who belive in god but dont attend church. She was not anti force (or higher power), she was anti establishment. She didnt believe the power of the force should be restrained behind false ceremony and false rituals. To become strong in the force someone should have to gain that strenght through experience and knowledge. That was my take on it tho, I know others disagree and have their own takes on the issue.

sith lord vrook??? "spoiler"
Kalfear replied to master skidder's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yes, it is forbided to have relationships so she was kicked out and then she joined Revan during the Jedi civil wars where she died.
