heh, I think most of the Xbox complainers are grossly exagerating things to be honest! I have played through it 8 times now and other then the rare lock up and a few frame rate slow downs I really didnt run into any game effecting bugs. Most of the "Bug" things ive read are just people not reading the storyline as they go along and wanting everything handed to them rather then exploring and learning the game to be honest! Read a post other day where guy was whining about Telos and Nar Shadaar being bugged, of his 5 complaints not one of them were a actual bug. He just didnt bother trying to figure out the quests is all.

I doubt it. The first Sith Apprentice group in KOTOR used more force powers than all of KOTOR 2's enemies combined. Played the game through twice (since I always give a game two chances before I make a judgement on it), and the only force powers that were ever cast were. heal by the masters drain life by a boss that seemed to "auto" use it with his normal attack choke by the last boss before being force crushed to death They no longer force lightning your party like they did in KOTOR, they no longer confuse you, or breach your force immunities, they no longer force push you, they basically run at you and melee you with sabers. OH SO HARD. Force storm owns the academy rooms though, crush is one at a time, storm is the entire group dead at once. Crush should have cost 100 fp, to try and balance it out. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> LOL, doubt all you want! You would be wrong yet again

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs ... kinda has spoilers ...

For the Pilot and Refugees (looking for transport off station) there is actually 2 different ways each to complete the quest, and yes you can finish Goto's yauth and go back to finish them so no clue why you say you cant. Far as fuel goes, hey it makes sence! Either you speak to The Hutt before crippling Goto and make arrangements for Telos to get fuel or you miss out. Why would the Hutt deal with you after you have already crippled Gotto? I mean whats in it for him? Makes perfect sence! Also you can go back to Telos and finish any Telos quest at any given time! There is absolutely 0 quests on Telos that you are NOT able to finish later on in game. As for returning the game, go for it. You would be returning the best RPG game of 2004 by a huge margin. If I was the store you purchased from id take your name down and refuse to sell to you ever again in the future because if you cant be happy with this game then you will never be happy with any game! -

As a experienced and knowledgeable player of MMORPGS (as I said before, they are my choice when it comes to games altho to be fair KotOR series and its return to story driven content rather then FPS content thats driven the market for RPG these past 10 years has made RPGs one of my favorite genres again) I would be admiss if I didnt warn you. DONT purchase or play WoW (World of Warcraft). Its a poorly designed game that is the apitomy of weak content in todays MMORPG market. Its a prime example of Developers useing PVP to hide the lack of end content (thats why it claims PvP is its end game). When ever you see a developer claim PvP is the end game you know right away they have put next to no effort in presenting and ensureing there is high end content for those players of that level. It takes less time to max out a character in WoW then it does to play from start to finish KotOR 1 or 2, and then you are left with a underdeveloped and simplistic watered down pvp game based off of DAoC's RvR system (which at one point was the BEST PvP system on the market ever but has fallen dramatically as explained below). People rave about WoW because its supposibly casual player friendly (meaning it doesnt take long to max out so everyone stays equal in level) or because they have bought into the Blizzard propogama marketting machine (makes my skin crawl everytime someone says WoW is great because Blizzard made it, people shouldnt be lemmings and should judge the product on its strenghts and weaknesses rather then the reputation of the developer IMO. Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo were all great games, I loved each and everyone of them, but thats doesnt mean WOW is a great game! No company is perfect and Blizzards entery into the MMORPG genre is proff positive of that fact). Quality MMORPGs should be challenging and have a detailed storyline filled with quests and activities at the end game. There should be a feeling of fullfillment when you do manage to reach max level and still things to look ahead to to keep you occupied and entertained. This is why I think KotOR series would make a good MMORPG, upon completion you have that feeling of accomplishment because of the well created and developed story lines. You quite simply will not have this feeling in SWG, UO, or WOW. You will have this feeling in games like DAoC, EQ 1 and 2, and FFXI. However those games themselves do present their own problems. FFXI is totally dependant on grouping which really causes it to be a weak game (by grouping I mean a full 6 person group, if they toned it back to requireing 3 person groups the game would be much stronger). EQ 1 and 2 are Level driven which can (if you treat it as such) feel like its to grinding orientated (its a player mentality issue but many cant enter a game and feel successful with out feeling they are in compitition with other players). DAoC is item driven and extra ability driven sadly. The inclusion of god like powers and high end powers really destroyed the game which is a real shame as the original DAoC had a very good and balanced original system to work off of. As you can see, the genre is still waiting on that one game that can supply a solid story line, solid skill tree, solid questing game with out being to easy or to hard. Seems simple but for what ever reason MMORPG developers just havent been able to create it yet (I think its mostly because they allow themselves to be side tracked and influenced by those with less knowledge/experience but the persistance to post alot until their failed concepts start to sound good). -
Personally I loved the fact that you could turn your party into jedi! It was a interesting concept for the game! You still had to level them so they didnt become instant Jedi Masters, they learned as you traveled togather, so their learning was done through actual examples rather then books. Its interesting to note here since these new jedi are NOT bound by the tired old Jedi code of ethics they have much much much more flexability. Frankly, even though I liked the 80s movies, I always found the jedi (ala Luke "let me whine somemore" Skywalker) to be a wimpy whinny sort. These new jedi are driven by their own code of ethics and morales rather then some outdated teachings of religion. All in all I think being able to get padawens was a great idea and the first time through I must admit I POPPED huge when I turned my first party NPC into a Jedi!!!! (of course I stayed away from all boards and write ups prior to playing so I could enjoy the full effect of the game and be surprised rather then know stuff like this was doable before hand).

Tackling the online issue...

OK, obviously, a good number of us want online functionality. We have established that. And, I think it is doubtful that LA would want another of their properties to go head to head with SWG....if we don't agree on that, then I see no reason to go any further. Now, I will discuss my own personal prejudice with regard to MMORPGs. MMORPGs are expensive...$15 a month. I'm sorry, but I do not want to pay that if I don't have to. They are also, IN MANY CASES, full of "macro writers" and people with 2 or 3 accounts just so they can buff up their main character. Some would call it "cheating" but, in order to cheat, there has to be an objective...what is the objective of these games? For some people it is nothing more than an excuse to cuss and make cat calls, etc. I don't want that but I do want new content from time to time. - Plano <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmmmm, interesting POV. Before I reply ill let you know I have been playing MMORPGs for going on 14 years now. I have played pretty much every title that has hit the market in that genre. So its not a exageration when I say, the only two games that have had signifigant issues with macro writing are Ulitima Online and Star Wars Galaxies (altho games like Ashrons Call did have exploitation issues as well not related to macroing tho). Both were created by the same design teams (different companies but same actual people). There is with out a doubt the system is flawed. Thats nothing new and anyone whose played them knows this. But they are but 2 games in a genre that encompasses far far far many more games. You CANT (and shouldnt) base a generalized opinion on the entire genre off of 2 games. Also, both games attract PvP crowds. Now I dont wanna get into that topic as its a circular arguement that can never be won. Suffice to say that of any players in the genre, the pvp crowd are the ones most likely to find and create cheats and exploits to enhance their characters. I dont think a KotOR MMOPRG should include PvP. The strenght of Knights of the Old Republic is storyline and quests. What path you choose to walk based on your choices. It doesnt need pvp as, if properly done (something most games that include pvp are not), it wouldnt need the crutch of having pvp to hide its lack of content (SWG is a great example of pvp being used to hide a flawed and underdeveloped system and game). Also, MMORPGs are not expencive! Sure they are 15.00/month. For that $15 you get a full month of playing (in my case thats anywhere from 10 to 160 hours of play). So thats 1.50/hour to $0.09/hour for your enjoyment! Thats a bargin no matter how you look at it!!!!! Cable TV, Movies (rental or theater), sports all cost far far more then that!!! Sorry the cost reason doesnt fly. If MMORPGs were still a $2.95/hour charge like they were when they first appeared on the market (NWN on AOL back in 1991) then yes the expensive excuse could be used. Thats just simply no longer the case tho. PS: As for going head to head with SWG, LA already has a Ad up asking for a NEW Lead Designer for SWG. LA knows SOE has screwed the pooch with SWG and its my belief if a BETTER (and KotOR series is better) Star Wars system was made available as a MMORPG. LA would have 0 issue with running with it. I play SWG and it is so broken and poorly designed that barring a total and complete remake from the ground level up, the game just cant be fixed. And it already has the stigma of being one of the worst MMORPGs on the market. As anyone with any bussiness experience will tell you, its ALOT harder to get unhappy customers back then it is to keep a customer happy from the get go. SWG has burned its bridges on pretty much every front and LA is VERY VERY Aware of this fact. So to assume that LA wouldnt be interested in a new title to run head to head with SWG once that contract is up (which is happening sometime this year btw) is just lack of information. If the right propossal came along LA would jump at the chance as a broken SWG HURTS the Star Wars franchise more then it helps! -
how did you get level 50??????? I killed EVERYTHING and did every quest and got level 28. Tho only other thing I could have done was have Kreia in group for the xp bonus but I truely doubt that would have given me 22 more levels. So was that a typo or just massive massive expansion on the truth? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is a tomb in korriban where u can click on a dead jedi and it spawns a few enemies. You can just click on the jedi a bunch of times and then AOE with force lightning and collect thousands of XP a minute. It's very easy (and boring) way to gain levels. I think its posted as the l33t hack or whatever on every game faq website in the known universe <{POST_SNAPBACK}> LOL! Ahhhh that would explain it then! heh I stay away from those sites as why bother playing the games at all if your going to cheat? Makes no sence to me! hehehe

It happens after the Ravanger and before you head to Mandalore V Batilla does NOT always appear tho, only some of the times and you dont met her. She comes to speak to Carth after you and him have spoken!
-
inspire followers is gained from jedi Master Force Crush is gained by Sith Lord not sure about the rest
-
heheh Casting Confuse on Sion is also fun! He just stands there looking at you as you rebuff and heal up! hehehe Actually Confuse was one of my favorite powers for Trays Academy! Id just find a Maurader and Confuse him and watch him clean out the room! LOL! Nimus was far to easy but the story that was told during the battle is the bug pay off there! Many peices fell into place as you battled him. PS: I had lots of NPCs use force powers on me, I just made sure I had force immunity up so the effects were limited at best! Not sure what game you playing Ep but damn near every Sith Lord, Maurader, adept in the Academy tried to use force powers on me.

Depends on what you want from your party! For pure slaying skill, nothing beats Handmaiden (as a jedi with a 2 haned Lightsabre) and Visas (with 2 single handed Lightsabres). Put them both on Jedi Support and just watch the carnage!!!! hehehe Switching out Handmaiden and putting Mandalore in (set on ranged attack) also works very well!

heheh Handmaiden is awsome! Very powerful character if you raise her skills correctly! I personally prefer Mira or Visra myself over handmaided but she is not a terrible character!!!! To raise Handmaiden influence, there is a few ways! 1) When training with her defeat her taking almost no damage! (Kriea hints at this when you speak to her). While you dont see "influence gained" message, defeating her in such a manner has opened new communication lines to me! 2) heal the ill man in refugee sector of Nar Shadaar 3) Help Kumas on Dunx (careful with this one, depending on communication choices you can gain or lose influence) 4)Stand up to the mercs when leaving Caves on Dant (after freeing the Sith Lord Vrook) 5) Give republic spy a open starport visa on Onderon 6) Speak to her often (this is where you will gain most of your influence over her) *Note* and while no influence given, Have her and Atton in group when approached to give up the Ebon Hawk (choose to give it up), the dialog between the two is hillarious!

Tackling the online issue...
Kalfear replied to Plano Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Alright, I know alot of us want some sort of online functionality with this franchise. I am an Xbox player and I have played through KOTOR I at least twice but I never got around to downloading the Yavin station....well, I just did and I'm going to play through it again so I can check out the station. Here is the thing: * NO, subscription-based "Galaxies" or "Everquest"-style online play is not what this franchise needs. Disagree, This franchise would fit nicely into a MMORPG setting and would exceed expectations of many nay sayers who refuse to look at the whole picture. FFXI already has a system similar (graphics, zones, engine) to KotOR so its already been proven people would play this with this engine design. The quests and storyline would be the huge seller and would be alot more interesting then playing with NPCs. To write of the MMORPG with no reasoning or knowledge to back your statement shows how limited your preseption of games are. You dont like MMORPGs, fine we get that, but to say No based soly on your own inability to grasp the whole picture and desire to eliminate content that others beyond your narrow minded veiw is arrogence in its most unpleasent form! * NO, an extra map is not quite the answer either. I have no idea what your talking about here? Rather then saying NO. How about expanding on your statements so they make sence? Thanks So, the answer, as I see it, is some sort of hybrid of the two. And it has to be something that the Suits can make money with. OK, this might seem a little radical but here it goes: "KOTOR IV: the Demise of Exar Khun" could have this online functionality where: * everyone who buys the game also gets a developer kit (it's really just a map creation kit). you "unlock" the kit and the online functionality. And this would help how??? Again how about explaining yourself rather then making blanket statements!! * once you beat the game, And this would help how??? Again how about explaining yourself rather then making blanket statements!! * everytime you upload something, you pay $1. WHY???? WTH are you talking about???? seriously! * every quarter (3 months), there is a new mission kit. The mission kit is at least 10 hours of new content. and it costs $5 to download. Online expansions, fine. Hardly a new idea or ground breaking idea but it would work. Question tho, are you talking the expansions made by Obsidian or by players? If by players then you would have to pay me to download the content as most player made mods in games are boarderline stupidity at the best of times! * presumably, there would be much more content uploaded than what could be used...too much for the corporate guys to filter through... Again, WTH are you talking about. Seriously buddy, you need to EXPLAIN your ideas, not just assume people will know what your yammering about! What uploads? Player made mods????? * for this reason, there are *subscribers* who pay $15/month...the subscribers decide what 50 hours of material to submit to corporate for the final editing. Errr so your suggesting that the players vote on the mods that get submitted????? So lets see, the players play the mods to see if they are good (and pay for this no less where as if you worked for Obsidian (or any other company) you would be GETTING paid to do this by them). Then after you have finished playing the mod you vote on it to become submitted to the company so they can repackage it and SELL it to you as a expansion even tho you have already played it???? Is that what your saying??? If it is, that is the STUPIDEST IDEA Ive ever heard! Whose going to pay for a expansion they have already played???????? * like the online-only games, there is property to be bought, shops to be set up, etc. Ummm, I must have missed this part of your propossal. Oh wait, you just didnt explain and left it empty it like everything else! thoughts on this? My thoughts on post. * Rather then make open ended, unformed statements casting judgements on different styles of play, how about you expand you ideas so they make sence and are complete! *You said your a Xbox player only. How about you go try some of those MMORPGs before opening your mouth and passing false judgements so you "MIGHT" have a clue as to what your talking about! *Believe it or not this was not a flame post reply. Im just sick and tired of people with no clue what they are speaking about posting like they are the be all and end all of gaming. Go get some experience and knowledge in the genres before you pass your false judgements! -
My impression having played both games multiple times as male and female characters is 1) Revan is a NEUTRAL (neither light or dark) Male. (story just makes much more sence with the Bastila connection with Revan as a male.) 2)Exile is a Light Side Male who turned away from war until manipulated back into the fight (again, the flow of the story makes much more sence with exile as a male rather then female). 3) Its my impression that the Exile and Revan will join forces in a somewhat uneasy alliance to fight the true Sith Threat outside of known space. 4) The Jedi's will be rebuilt by Handmaiden, Visas, and Mira 5) Bao will continue his role as a planet rebuilder (telos and them) 6) Mandalore is waiting for word from Revan to bring the Mandalorians into the battle at which point they will be wiped out (as hinted to by Kreia). 7) Carth and Bastilla will protect the republic Boarders as requested to do by Revan. Thats my understanding of the future events. While both games were playable as male or female the story line seems to flow much more smoothly with Revan and the Exile both being male.
-
The Mandalorians should have kicked the **** out of everything in their site. If they won that war, every planet would start with Clan! EX: Clan Telos, Clan Dantooine, Etc Etc. If i was Mandalore AKA Canderous Ordo I would rename Korriban "Clan Ordo" and build a huge massive empire on the planet and wipe out every little Jedi around, including the hopeful little children! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> hehe, hense why games not totally open and your forced to follow storylines
-
Wouldnt haveing very low influence eliminate a good portion of the story lines tho?
-
Picture on the Box is Atris, shes a NPC that you do not get to have in your party but plays a semi signifigant role in story!
-
Actually I found the AI better then KotOR1 to be honest! But yes the game is easy and its still not perfect AI (having said that, the AI still 10000 times smarter then the pvpers you find in the mmorpg's out there! ) Point is, could be worse!
-
Concidering the game doesnt give you a choice of only taking 2 characters to the tomb id be interested in knowing how you achieved this? PS: I used Mira (Jedi), Bao (Jedi and not a jedi) and Mandalore (Not a Jedi) for the tomb. Put Mandalore on Ranged, Bao on Aggresive or Jedi Support (depending on if you have turned him yet) and use Mira as main. Its a breeze and all 3 characters seem to be effected by the tomb (altho I have never been able to find out why). Mira (if you forgot) can walk accross Mine Feilds with out setting them off so have her stealth up and walk over to sensor to disable it. Rest is a cake walk
-
Jolee is dead. When you meet the Disciple in the lower enclave he makes mention of the "Adventures of Jolee Bindal in the outter Rim Worlds". Thats said to me that Jolee died and his history was lost along with other material the Jedi's had.
-
I did Telos, Nar Shadar and had HK Buy the Processer from the Droid merchant and then get the chassis from the HK unit in the droid factory and you all set.
-
Didn't know you could do that. Go with Epiphany's idea instead it sounds better. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> LOL, not sure about that, Ep arnt you the same person that killed all thew exchange guards and smashed the concil there as well and cant gain access into the exchange now? LOL! Think before you smash!
-
level 28 (combined of course) the best I been able to get outta game so far
