I would like to see list of trigger warnings just for bible :)

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Somehow my sarcasm and derision of the poor little dears being unable to read Titus Andronicus without needing therapy morphed into being against safety warnings and movie ratings huh? You never know where the conversational road will go around here. But the ride is entertaining.

Could be worse, we could follow you and post things people unrelated to us are doing that are wrong. I think some guy on the corner here was wearing a Nickelback shirt today.

Hold up guys, gotta get my TRIGGER list out for the day so I can cover every possible eventuality that I, or anyone else on the planet, may or may not have issues with:

Sure. If you can get a CAT scan to show that your brain is actually damaged and reacts to each and every of those stimuli in certain, predictable and measurable ways, I'd guess you'd have the full support of the medical community.

I mean, they've been using CAT scans to screen PTSD-afflicted vets in the US for, what, a decade now? You don't believe in magnets either?

I have always found it quite ironic how biblical movies get either 16/18+ rating or they have censored some of the content from the bible, make it to be more fitting for younger audiences, but still they make people start reading bible as soon as they can read (ages 6-8 ) (although these days they only give New Testament for elementary school students before they go in confirmation school at age 15 [Finnish Lutheran tradition where people go in camp like thing to learn about Lutheran faith and become full members of Church]).

Wait, every single TRIGGER issue has a doctors note too? Otherwise were just pissing into the wind.

You need to try a different joke.

Is this more up to date? Its where I store all my TRIGGERS:

I thought that storehouse of trigger warnings is here:

I understand that people don't want to watch certain type of content for multitude of reason, but I wonder why people just don't read reviews for movies or plays before they go to watch them instead of asking complex lists of content descriptions. I have pondered if such behavior is because of new media, where media companies try to analyze their content in order to create word clouds and similar things to offer additional content for their users and users have adopted use of these content lists so thoroughly that they don't only look new content to consume but also content that they don't want to consume and therefore they disdain services/products/productions/etc. that don't have them.

Not really, it's the same theme. Though I suppose there's a joke here about recursive triggers.

I guess that depends on how you define UPPERCASE TRIGGER. If you mean something like your reaction to this discussion, I don't think so. On the other hand, my understanding is that depictions of rape can cause a rape victim's PTSD to lowercase trigger. I don't know how reliably and consistently though, and there's not much research on it as far as I'm aware. Then again, smoking doesn't reliably cause cancer 100% of the time, but that's no reason not to have warnings on ciggy packs -- it's just that someone[who?] agreed that the risk was significant enough to warrant those notices.

No one's saying that the A-Team should include a TRIGGER WARNING: MAY CONTAIN BLACK VANS because it may be problematic for people who were once molested in a black van. That's rather absurd and unfeasible, and by beating on that straw man, you're kinda falling into the same hysterics as the "snowflakes" you think you're poking fun at.

Who are we to decide which mental trauma is worthy and which is not? Why just yesterday Harry Styles got groped just like I was groped. What if I cant go to his concerts anymore? Did you ever think of that?

BTW, every time one of you turns around and uses TRIGGERED as an insult, an irony meter explodes somewhere. Probably also mentally scars someone.

Why is that different than when you do it? Sort of labouring it to death at this point.

Who is "we"?

Personally, I take the -admittedly conservative- stance that if something shows on an MRI, it's safe to assume that it's a thing, and not made up. As for the rest, I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand because mental disorders have been known before we could look into the nuts and bolts of it, but probably ranks lower in my "certainty" scale, and is taken with a grain of salt. I defer to actual specialists in any case.

Not really. There is way more complaining about trigger warnings here than anyone requesting trigger warnings. Actually I can't think of a single poster who is actively advocating for trigger warnings. Find me a post where someone is like "Guys we need more trigger warnings!"

Instead you have people complaining about the warnings existing, and other posters defending their existence. Very different things. They are really only brought up on these forums by people who think they are dumb. It shouldn't be a surprise that others will disagree.

Huh? The difference is you guys milling about nodding to each other how TRIGGERS should totally be on everything. But I do gotta give props to the moving goal posts of those who try to equate it with nutritional labels and warning signs. *nodnodnod*

But I guess we cant really quantify anything. Someone is simply TRIGGERED when they tell you theyre TRIGGERED! And the world better deal with it. :shrugz:

So where were we? Oh yeah, that Trump, what a dummi!

Hey guys, I'm starting to think that maybe we shouldn't have a total troll as a moderator.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

The opinion in itself is actually alright - others have been expressing it in a way that isn't as laughably inflammatory (among other things)...but I guess this ain't the place to take it up.

He's just mocking the whole trigger warning thing, though yeah he is leaning a bit hard on the mock part of it.

Not that it makes him a bad moderator....

Plenty of other actual politics stuff to talk about....

I dunno, would you feel comfortable complaining to a guy about someone being mean to you on an internet forum (which is basically what the report function is for), when that someone thinks legitimate psychological trauma is something to be dismissed with derisive laughter? I mean, what kind of mod response would you expect from someone like that besides "boo hoo, man up you little bitch"?

(Not that I actually have a problem with the guy on the mod team, he's way too lazy to ever actually do anything legitimately harmful by misusing his powers. Or, y'know, his job.)
