There is some gameplay footage floating around youtube now, apparently from an EA event.

Geez xD

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

This wouldn't be as big a problem if every game didn't have to be open world with combat, platforming, a stealth mechanic, crafting, mini games, and some kind of character progression system.

"EA’s Star Wars ‘pivot’ is a vote of no confidence in single-player games"

https://www.polygon.com/2017/10/18/16491188/ea-star-wars-visceral-games-single-player

Sobering thought for us fans who vastly prefer single player.

Sigh, half of the article is defending microtransactions and shift to f2p model, because "developing costs gone high *cries a river*"...

If we accept that profit margins dictate publishers' decisions, the games-as-a-service model will impose itself on the AAA market because consumers largely do favor their entertainment being turned into dull, repetitive work-like activities, sprinkled with a dash of money grubbing microtransactions, despite protests to the contrary.

Have you ever stood and stared at it, marveled at its beauty, its genius? Billions of players just wasting their money, oblivious. Did you know that the first AAA game was designed to be a perfect human fantasy? Where none would be fleeced? Where everyone would be happy? It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire profit opportunities were lost. Some believed that we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect game. But I believe that as a species, human beings define their entertainment through misery and suffering. The perfect game was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to log out of. Which is why Battlefront 2 was redesigned to this, the peak of your economics. I say your economics because as soon as we started thinking for you, it really became our economics, which is, of course, what this is all about: Evolution, my friend, evolution. Like floppy-distributed shareware. Look out that window. You had your time. The future is our world. The future is our time.

Free is free and I haven't played any Civilization in ages. My thanks.

This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

I've been a member there for ages. It was obvious that the owner was weird, but I never partook in anything other than gaming discussion and the football (soccer) threads over there. In other words, I wasn't in the loop in anything about this, especially about the member with child pornography photos. It was/is a good site for video game news. I didn't have to visit 15 other sites to read up on what was happening in the industry. It covered western and eastern games, and both bigger and smaller games. Oh wel, time to find a new news aggregator.

Next article reads:

Obsidian Forum regular poster Labadal distances himself from NeoGAF. "I wasn't in the loop in anything about this," Labadal wrote on the Obsidian Forum, and ended his post, like so many other former NeoGAF readers, saying "time to find a new news aggregator."

Surprised that's news. Wonder how the geniuses at KiA are reacting.

I've only just lurked GAF a few times, but it always seemed terrible to me: people getting banned for no reasons, thought police, hive minded users, everything needed to be political and if you had the "wrong" opinion about something you were deemed a racist/sexist/homophobe/etc piece of **** and banned (even if you didn't actually say anything offensive).

It's funny that it's always these kind of guys (like the owner of GAF) who turn out to be huge hypocrites who say one thing while acting a lot differently IRL.

Is that the site where you got banned for criticizing Sony/Nintendo?

I know you got banned for being pro-piracy in any way.

I don't feel too bad about it disappearing, given the endless amount of controversies associated with it, its utterly horrid moderation team who banned you at the drop of a hat, and now apparently its owner. May something better spring up in its place.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

I'm not gonna lie, Codex in a Kotaku format sounds interesting. It'd be like one of those tabloids that has big foot on the cover with the story of how he ate my groceries, like that but about video games.
