Why the quotes? they are right ****ers for stopping people from playing their games.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

It's not like multiplayer games never had balance issues before. It just feels dirtier when money is involved?

Maybe you can explain what "balance" has to do with anything in this context. But yeah, without getting into too much detail, when your experience significantly changes based on how much money you're willing to spend on a game, that's bad.

In other news, another interesting piece by Kotaku's Jason Schreier on the reasons that led to Visceral's crash and burn: https://kotaku.com/the-collapse-of-viscerals-ambitious-star-wars-game-1819916152

Wow, another Kotaku piece that isn't a total hack job? Say it ain't so!

Because it is a balance issue, a ridiculous one, but it's not much different for the player on the losing end than it's been for some time. Even more incentive to shoot up the guy with the fancy gear maybe, but those games always have insane levelers instantly so how would you even know the difference? The ones that paid are easier to kill?

How is it a balance issue when your performance isn't affected by your choice of equipment or playstyle nearly as much as it is by how many lootboxes you've paid for?

It's not that "weapon X does way more damage than anything else with no drawbacks" or that "tactic Z has no counters". Those are balance issues. It's that just about any "gold" tier weapon does a ton of damage, and any maxed out character has absurd modifiers to their abilities, and the only way to acquire those things is to grind for hundreds of hours or, conveniently, shell out a few thousand to max your manifest.

Just because you get trampled doesn't mean it's automatically a "balance" issue. But even if it were... it's not deserving of criticism, why? Because now you can pay through the nose so it doesn't affect you?

Nier: Automata had already possibility to purchase achievements if I catched that correctly from some video reviews. Thankfully not with real money.

Haha, I didn't knew that!

Can't wait to see what Platinum Games/Yoko Taro will do next.

*Also: How long before the industry catches on that they can sell Steam achievements?

That's pretty much what the trading card system is though, isn't it- a parallel system to the achievement one with a randomised generation event attached similar to loot boxes? Sell them, buy them, craft badges, inflate your epeen steam level etc and every time they're traded steam and the game's publisher get a cut.

I just can't play that F:NV. I just can't stand shooting someone 20 time into face with shotgun. I tried but my brain just can't handle that :(

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

If you had to shoot someone 20 times in the head, you probably used the wrong ammo type.

It should've been more about accuracy than damage.

There's rumors of Bioware working on something else, but I don't think any confirmation.

And supposedly Visceral's project is moved elsewhere to be reworked.

THQ Nordic have announced a remaster of Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

This was a PS2 game originally, and while I did own a PS2, I never got to play this game.  A shame, since the game seems like it would be right up my alley, being basically Zelda but with more platforming.

Let's see some gameplay first. I hope it's something like the good ol' Tenchu.
