RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - DA REAL DEAL

No need for physical media anymore.

That is true. However, people nowadays tend to love collecting physical goods and showing off their collections on teh interwebz. I am no exception myself. I think physical media still has a place, in console gaming at least. I wish more people would practice what Sony does: let people be able to buy and keep digital games with the use of pre-paid cards, even if they don't happen to own a credit card.

Granted I believe the only thing Sony needs to do is make any game that doesn't require online to play that u have bought online require the PlayStation subscription to be active to play them.

The PS Plus freebies? They are the same as Games with Gold on Xbox. You can keep the freebies but you need an active PS Plus subscription if you want to download and play them. But that ain't a deal breaker since there are always tons of sales on the PSN that reduce the game prices. For instance, right now you can buy and keep Lords of the Fallen for only 7 bucks on the PSN. No need for PS Plus subscription or credit card either. Though a PS Plus subscription sometimes reduces the prices even more(like 75% off instead of 50% off the regular price).

That's why I never buy anything from PSN. PSN is nice frontend, but it is very bad service, when you purchase stuff on sale.

I've been using PSN for my gaming needs for the past 7 years and it hasn't failed me once. I don't know, maybe I am misinformed but every and any game you buy during ANY sale is yours to keep...forever. No need to renew your PS Plus membership to play a game you bought during a big sale, you just need to log-in to PSN and download the said game from your list. If it's a PS3 game it can be played offline even if you are not logged in, PS4 is different though, there are a number of single-player games that need you to be logged in to PSN if you want to play them but not all games are like that.

I know PS3 games are fine, but I just can't be arsed to waste time doing research for which PS4 games do need internet connection and which not. I rather wait for my disc in a post. I buy digital only content exclusively on GOG, there is a guarantee, that I do not need to deal with that kind of ****.

Well, yesterday I bought Shadow Warrior 2(PS4) and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle(PS3) for a total of 30 bucks. Now I have pretty much the weakest internet connection on these boards since I live in Iran/Tehran but I always have a WiFi connection that allows me to stay connected to the PSN so for me it is not a big hassle, even if the download times can be bothersome for any game that is bigger than 15 GB. I guess I would buy most of these games physically if I could but since ordering a game from the other end of the world ain't really possible through any legit way(especially when you are an evil middle-eastern like me and can't have a credit card), pre-paid cards are they way to go.

Well that sucks. I had same issues with credit cards about 12-14 years ago. No company was selling in Slovakia NWN1 expansions, and most of the credit cards issued at that time were not allowed for cross border payments. And I was one of these "fortunate" card holders. No prepaid cards at that time, so only possibility was to travel to Austria, and hope to find english version of the game, travel to UK or get it by "shadier" means.

Thankfully nowadays, you have here tons of opportunities how to get what you want. But still sometimes hard to get some Japanese games.

Hehe, good ol' Austria/Vienna. Do you remember Software Dschungel?!

Damn, some of my extremely valuble physical goods are stuck in Austria at my brothers house. boxed N64 games, boxed PC games, near mint condition 'Big Boxes' of Fallout 2 and Arcanum...

Maybe I should give you his address and let him hand you over the games next time you are there, at least they will be in good hands.

Unfortunatelly, I lived to far away from Vienna, so at that time I had no means to travel there. If some friends travelled there, we managed some "business" :-P

Hehe, I was never able to buy boxed Arcanum, for the same reason of unavailability in here at the time, so that would be nice haha.

Currently I am moving, so my PC, PS2, PS1, Wii boxes and most of the books are still at my old appartment, moved only my PS3 and PS4 boxes :-)

I never thought I would feel bad for Bethesda, but now I do: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-10-16-the-evil-within-2-physical-sales-were-quarter-of-original

Hehe, I was never able to buy boxed Arcanum

I won it on ebay for 54 bucks. It came with the cloth map and boy did it look beautiful, almost as if it came right after the factory! I later announced my triumph at the No Mutants Allowed boards only to be cursed to death by some of the other users at NMA who happened to be bidding on the same auction at the time.

Only got that stupid dvd case thing of Arcanum and it's pretty ugly. On the other hand, I don't have the space for biig boxes anymore anyway now.

Please buy this game because I love Shinji Mikami

Apparently, Evil Within 2 is also pretty damn good game. And it has no microtransactions, loot boxes and - and that's a new one for Bethesda - doesn't even sport Denuvo. So buy it because Katphood loves Shinji Mikami and also because, apparently, AAA games that are simply ... Games with no BS surrounding them is a thing to be celebrated nowadays.

I bought the season pass for the first game but never played any of the 3 DLCs. Gotta get back to the first game since I heard that they did an amazing job with the DLCs, all of them offering new story and new ways to play the game.

Wolfenstein

Th Evil Within

Dishonored

System Shock 3(aka PREY)

...

Wow, I wouldn't mind calling myself a beths fanboy at this point.

I still have my Fallout box, and Planescape box.  I might have the BG2 box, but it might have been tossed for water (hurricane) damage.

(I still have the boxed sets for Dune II, Curse of the Azure Bonds, and Eye of the Beholder.  8)  )

's where I bought NWN from, the collector's edition with the cloth map. Boy what a fine disappointment that ended up being, at least until the expansions came out and some really good user created content was available.

The shop's been kaputt for a while now though.

Basically, it's a Piranha Bytes game, for better or worse. As with others, I'll wait for it to get patched before digging in, but I really do want to dig in.

I'm hoping that the writing will go back to the snark, sarcasm and general apathy of Risen 2. More MC need to act like they don't give a damn about saving the world.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*
