So just how **** has this show gotten? Last I heard

Sansa was sold off to be raped by Ramsay and Stannis' army was taken down by 5 dudes

Sounds like it's quite the mess.

The White Walkers turn out to be Mr. Freeze in a stunning reveal that the story is actually an extremely elaborate Batman fanfic.

GOT is awesome. People whining about Sansa being raped forgot about what show they were watching. This was a show that had a bunch of children massacred simply because of who their father was. This is the same show that had a guy's **** cut off. This is the same show that had a father  raping his daughters and granddaughters and murdering all male relatives. Yet, IN SEASON FIVE, people get butthurt over another dark scene/story. COME ON.

GOT is awesome. People whining about Sansa being raped forgot about what show they were watching.

One that has zero interest in the source material clearly.

Now bearing in mind I've only read the books (years and years ago) and gave up after season 1 but even I can think of at least three major problems with that stupid plot line.

1. Why would Littlefinger sell the last remaining Stark, his ticket to the North, plus his surrogate Catelyn to some deranged lunatic?

2. Ramsay was meant to marry Jeyne Pool posing as Arya - having it literally be Sansa is stupid because Sansa was perceived to be an enemy of the state and in cahoots with a kingslayer (Tyrion).

3. This ****s up Sansa's plot. Her time with Littlefinger was meant to show her hardening as a character and beginning to understand how to 'play' the Game of Thrones. Instead she's subject to yet another season of being tortured by some psychopath. How exciting.

None of what you wrote explains why a bunch of whinies were crying about how 'misogynist' that story was.

The 'wasn't in the book' is a whole new issue.

Al;so, again, apparantly you did not get the memo on what show you were watching so ar ecomplaining about a SEASON FIVE issue that has existed since the start -0 the shows have changed things from the book since the start INCLUDING giving stories to exisiting show characters they didn't have in the book. The fact they did it again in S5 should NOT be news.

And, this coming from someone who always been pro Sansa but some people are just ignorant idiots who  are dumb. KNOW WHAT SHOW YOU ARE WATCHING.

1) I agree. His actions in the books,

trying to unite the Vale behind Harrold Hardyng and then using a marriage to Sansa to provide the North with an alternative to the Boltons

makes a lot more sense.

2) Agreed

Never liked the Sansa story. Book or TV. But GoT as a whole is still pretty great.

Also if your specific problem is the 'Mah MySoggyknees' toward womyn just stop... POV characters in this story get their genitals cut off for plot development. If you up to this point had no problem with all the other examples of extreme cruelty in the story then you're just a hypocrite.

Let's have a dead pool and bet on who will die this season!

I nominate Mr Martin.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

Actually I did stop watching because season 3's gratuituous torture scenes just sucked all the fun out of the series for me. (Also, it's something the books didn't choose to dwell on, so...)

Also, it isn't misogynistic because a main character gets raped for plot development, it's misogynistic because plot development is actively sacrificed for the cheap shock value afforded by additional rape scenes.

I don't see what misogyny has to do with it. You can't just throw that word around anytime something happens to a woman.

It's the catchphrase that so many run to. Just wait until something happens to Varys and everybody will be up in arms. And it will be blamed on his baldness because that must be the reason. Soon we'll have things like Bald people being offended by people with hair soon, and baldness will be classed as a disability.

Meanwhile, my employer spoke to me in a manner I find upsetting, can't work gotta go suck my thumb in my safe place for half an hour.

Look, if you don't think the authorial stance that sees nothing wrong with sacrificing a female character's story arc on the altar of "exxxtreem grimdark!!4!" for no good reason whatsoever  is skeevy at best, I don't know what to say to you.

Sacrificing a better storyline for another storyline that involves a woman's rape is not misogyny, it's bad writing. To make that claim is basically jumping upon the assumption that the sacrifice was made SOLELY for the sake of that scene and that the producers hold Sansa to be nothing more than a tool for shock value rather than a real character all because she's a woman, something you have no evidence for and that multiple other parts of the show provide evidence to the contrary. If you cannot see how you're making a fantastic leap of faith to claim misogyny, then wow.

I mean you don't see me screaming misandry because the TV show's adeptation of Stannis is woefully unfair and bias against him whereas Dany has so much god damned plot armor she might as well solo the White Walkers; that's because there's no deep prejudice meaning behind it (though in Stannis' case the producers have actively said they hate the character iirc) and it's just bad writing. You don't look at that terriawful scene with the Greyjoys being run off by a couple of dogs as misogyny just because the leader of the attack was a woman, you view it as terriawful writing.

This is a show that has depicted scenes of baby's and children being murdered, has *already* pretty much depicted a woman forced against her will and touched on rape before, has shown countless gruesome deaths and scenes of torture involving men getting their **** chopped off.

Now with all due respect, and I do mean this in the kindest way possible, please piss off because this is a thread that's supposed to be about Game of Thrones, but currently it's about the god damned ****ing patriarchy because two members seem really offended by one wayward scene (that's more or less been done twice before) and insist discussing the misogyny of that scene is what this topic was truly created for.

If you are changing the story to make it better, and that is including something like torture, rape, etc. I have no issue with it. However, the majority of the GoT changes are shock value changes that actually water down the story. I will critique the show makers for going for the easy shock than making a better TV show. I won't go as far as labeling it misogyny, though. So, I sit in the middle of this debate, and can easily see both sides.

I am a fan of the books. I think Martin succeeded in creating an un-filmable series, and the end result is that I can see that fact become very apparent in the show. It becomes more apparent every season. So, much is lost in translation, and to fill the void I feel HBO fills the holes with shock. The butterfly effect is about to rear its head in this next season. A character killed early on that must be replaced to continue on. While through out the series characters don't appear, are not mentioned, and whole sections of story are completely twisted. Some characters are more interesting on the page than the screen as well. One example is that Stannis is much more enjoyable to read about, but not to watch IMHO. That isn't a fault of the actor, but the writing/directing. That is completely my opinion though. I am still watching because I enjoy the world, the actors, and so on. However, the show is a shadow of the books at this point. Season 1 was incredibly well done though and had minimal changes.

Some changes are well done in the show. I really liked the Aria and Tywin story arch from the show, and it was an example of a great change that minimized the changing of who was in control of Harenhall through out the books. Which may have been more confusing in the TV show if copied verbatim.

My critiques of the show are more about story changes that come from being a fan of the books, but I always went in with an expectations of change. I won't bash the show as I knew I wouldn't like it as much. It is a fair attempt at the translation. We will see how season 6 pans out, and more importantly if we will get to read Winds of Winter before season 7 or before Martin dies.

I don't think the show singles women out in any kind of special way. And even if it did sacrifice her and only her on the 'altar of grimdark' that still doesn't automatically mean it happened because of prejudice towards women.

Someone's disappointment with not seeing the desired "empowering portrayal of a female character" is not necessarily evil doing on the author's part.

Impossible to make a good omelette out of rotten eggs. I found the show un-watchable after the first season which wasn't surprising as I consider the books smut on the level of a porn clip on xhamster.

I will agree with Fighter that the show definitely doesn't single out women. They were much more apparent about "Little Theon's" fate in the show than the books were. That is someone equally grotesque, IMHO.

Yeah. The new Sansa arc in the show is questionable at best, but mostly due to it making no sense rather than her being a woman. When it comes right down to it the same thing happened in the books, just to a different and 'less important' character, and the same thing has happened countless times to unnamed characters. That's a hazard of having a 'realistic' medieval setting along with all the other random brutality.

Most of the really despicable people in the books and TV show are blokes, might as well say that Ramsay or Gregor Clegane or Craster are examples of misandry because they're all men. Worst thing a woman has done is... human sacrifice maybe, and even stiff upper lip honourable Stannis ended up doing that.

Good Lord, I never realised that I am part of a repressed and villified minority, the follically challenged. Henceforth I shall shed any morality, make up ridiculous conspiracy theories demonising the general populace, treat any resentment to my hostility and poor behaviour as oppression and harassment, fail to take any responsibility for my own actions, leach off society and others hard work, avoid any kind of hard work or self reliance, and probably start some kind of crowdfunding project that i'll never complete despite its blatant simplicity.

Can anyone help with lessons on being condescending and smug? Also I might need help in advocating for tolerance and understanding while maintaining the manners and posting style of a rude, spoiled child? *

P.S. Bald is our word, you are not allowed to use it, only we are.

Looking forward to season 6 however, I wonder how they will go about ressurecting a certain child of Ice and Fire.

The baldness is not what matters anyway. It's whether you look good in profile.

If you have the bump where your skull meets your neck in the right place it looks Jason Statham and you're all good. If not

Either way you are easier to draw.
