Malcador
Ah, preserving freedom of expression by censoring people who want to censor. Instead of trawling twitter and getting angry and frustrated with crazy people, I prefer to be dismissive of them. You know, like most of the world is. I can't even find any major news organizations that have covered the UN report. Have your games changed? Nope, so calm down. Well, I guess the concern is looking ahead. Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

PK htiw klaw eriF
Let's all chill out and have a laugh at this terrible fanfic about killing GobblyGoobers. Please tell me this was serious. "Akiva Goldsman and Alex Kurtzman run the 21st century version of MK ULTRA." - majestic "you're a damned filthy lying robot and you deserve to die and burn in hell." - Bartimaeus "Without individual thinking you can't notice the plot holes." - InsaneCommander "Just feed off the suffering of gamers." - Malcador "You are calling my taste crap." -Hurlshort "thankfully it seems like the creators like Hungary less this time around." - Sarex "Don't forget the wakame, dumbass" -Keyrock "Are you trolling or just being inadvertently nonsensical?' -Pidesco "we have already been forced to admit you are at least human" - uuuhhii "I refuse to buy from non-woke businesses" - HoonDing "feral camels are now considered a pest" - Gorth "Melkathi is known to be an overly critical grumpy person" - Melkathi "Oddly enough Sanderson was a lot more direct despite being a Mormon" - Zoraptor "I found it greatly disturbing to scroll through my cartoon's halfing selection of genitalias." - Wormerine "I love cheese despite the pain and carnage." - ShadySands

Amentep
As with any argument between large groups, there are always going to be unstable people on both sides who take things too far, that's true of any such argument. What's more, when you get an argument like this, particularly when it has gained a measure of fame, there will always be those people that have no real attachment to either side, they're simply there to instigate, to fan the flames, because... Yes and knowing that, neither side seems all that bothered by stopping - or even complaining - about it as long as the targets are the ones they want them to be. Curious or SOP? Since when has GG celebrated harassment or violence in any way? The war-statement is a metaphor for winning, you know, like you tend to do in video-games. Besides, there's no virtue in moderation of censoring creativity, or as you might have noticed with the latest talks at the UN, it's about preserving freedom of expression. Why do you need to celebrate it in order to condone it? And neither side seems willing to do anything about those who will attack the other side so they are, at least through inaction, condoning it. It seems to me that this is a false equivalence, mainly because it assumes that the person voicing the concern and the person listening is the same in both cases. Journalistic outlets have a lot more listeners so with that comes a responsibility to make sure that the stories are right and the UN deals with should greater issues than a promiscuous woman who keeps putting herself on the line of fire because she stands to gain a lot from it. As opposed to journalists telling the average joe that they shouldn't have any burden because the average joe should just care about other things that are more important. That's kind of how I saw it too. As I mentioned I think Carrera has had better more interesting arguments. A lot of people are emotional and frustrated at the situation so vitriol becomes an outlet for them to vent. Which in one hand is understandable if regretable. What I'm curious about is the phenomenon where loosely affiliated Group A sees Self-Identifying Group Member 13854 going on a vitriol tear and just silently nods because, hey, they're attacking the "enemy". Its that mentality I don't understand. And its made worse when Group A protests that Group B has members that spread the same vitriol against them. The vitriol is either right or wrong; I reject the argument that there are no bad tactics just bad targets. Topical: http://observer.com/2015/09/the-real-reason-we-need-to-stop-trying-to-protect-everyones-feelings/ I thought the author made some good points. What has happened since then, only Anita knows. Or the numerous time Brianna Wu has been doxxed on /gg/ at 8chan and users willingly reporting to the mods to delete the info? aGG has been quite proud about trying to people get fired for being part of GG, tried to shut down 8chan permanently, tried to falsify that 8chan hosted child porn, they shut down pretty much all the discussion of GG in most places (4chan, reddit, etc), falsingly claiming that GG are racists, misogynists, rapists and everything that is bad in this world. So who here is being unreasonable? who here wants to give anyone a chance to speak? who wants to silence everyone? who wants control and who wants just to be left alone and play games? Hurlshort
I'm a bit shocked someone would copyright a story like that. It made me curious how much it costs to do so, it seems to range between $35-$55. Crazy. It also takes about 8 months to go through, so I'm guessing it would be copyright pending. I agree GG has probably taken more steps in some cases. I still see fringe elements claiming GG-hood and harrasing people being referenced and so my wonder is why does it persist? Is it just too many people to check everyone? Is it the nature of things on the Internet? I do see aGG not really doing anything about their harrassing elements. Non-registered copyright is harder to defend in some instances but it doesn't have to be registered to become copyrighted. Trademarks, on the other hand, or a whole other ballpark. Barothmuk
In it he basically asks for the complete destruction for the modern internet. Is that really a terrible idea? Sure we had a few laughs but with the growth of increasingly stupid and insular communities combined with all the government spying I think it's for the best we just burn the whole thing down. Blarghagh
So because some people who use it are idiots, we should get rid of the entire thing? Let's just blow up the entire world then. Here's what I think: If what stupid internet idiots do bothers you that much, you are the problem. Stop thinking about some anonymous dumb ****s on the internet so much. Because if you give so much attention to internet stupidity, you are the internet stupidity. It's why I haven't been in this thread that much other to check for profanity because of moderator duty - too much idiocy. People are starting to type like 4chan idiots and use gamer language and respond with one word "wat" posts and whatever - it's gotten completely dumbed down. If you want to type like a ****ing moron, go ahead, but I'm going to stop paying attention to it.
