Tale Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 They never managed it for The Witcher 1 because there were disputes with the French company they had doing the port. CD Projekt claimed they weren't meeting standards and stopped paying them. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Gfted1 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Tig, where's the no weight mod you gots runnin? One page back, post 333 has a link. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
aries101 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 L.A. Noir plays on both PS3 and the Xbox 360; Shouldn't Witcher 2 be able to play well on consoles, too? I mean, the hardware limitations for the 360 and the PS3 doesn't hinder L.A. Noir in playing well on these systems. And this game looks just as beautiful as Witcher 2... Tale Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 LA Noir looks nowhere near as good as The Witcher 2. Maybe The Witcher 1. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
WDeranged Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I bet L.A Noir would still run like **** on a PC though *sigh* I hate how jaded I'm becoming with modern PC gaming.
Hassat Hunter Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 L.A. Noire looked pretty ugly to me on the X-box 360, character heads excluded. Maybe just me though. Anyways, a few levels, some better equipment and the wraiths hit the dust in 5 seconds, not me in 5 seconds. The difference was so big I wonder if there is level based damage addition. Cause I barely scratched them before, and 3 hits now. That doesn't seem on-par with my upgrades. Anyways, game on hold until the patch. Unless (chapter 1 spoiler) someone knows how to get Troll Tongue in vanilla . Don't want to finish Chapter 1 with open quests... ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. At least top 5. I doubt the same memory mechanics are in place. Console games of this type despawn all objects outside of player sight range to conserve memory. I assume witcher 2 acts differently.
WorstUsernameEver Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Console games of this type despawn all objects outside of player sight range to conserve memory.I assume witcher 2 acts differently. The Witcher 2 has some pretty noticeable pop-in and pop-out on all but the highest settings in my experience. Plus, TW2 was rumored since the beginning to be a multi-platform title, and there's a lot of evidence that the game has been designed to be easily portable to consoles. They did a nicer PC version than most though.
Tale Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 They did a nicer PC version than most though. I'm not entirely sure. I think that they did a pretty poor PC version considering the console ones aren't even announced yet. The UI is simply indefensible. Auto-scrolling, ugh. That may be but if so the real evidence should lie in resource use. Witcher 1 could easily make use of 1.5 gigabytes of RAM and it's savegames exceeded 100MB. It was obvious that it was in no shape for porting to console. Edited May 24, 2011 by pmp10
Lexx Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hehe, yeah. If W2 would have been a multiplatform release, I would have said that it's a crappy pc port because of the interface. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."

HoonDing Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 The fact is that the Witcher setting seems to be established that they cannot do many things about the world and that this is a sequel which can be a possible prequel (A series such as Fallout is hit much harder by with this contradiction). Besides these restrictions, even the Witcher is not about how players can influence the world but about how to enjoy their own takes about the fixed story, portraiting the main character as they feel to fit. Witcher setting is fair game, Sapkowski doesn't give a damn about what CD Projekt does with it. He wasn't involved in development at all, unlike the first game where he supposedly gave a few pointers on the story. The game is about the eternal loser/anti-hero who gets drawn into world-changing events against his will, and no matter his choices everything goes to ****, all he can do is merely delaying the inevitable. It's almost Elric of Melnibon The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Calax Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 http://steamcommunity.com/id/Calaxprimal/s...1381?tab=public About the whole "modern terms" bit. This is right after discussing Cells and Cancer. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Tale Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 (edited) An updated biological understanding is intrinsic to The Witcher. Geralt himself is genetically modified. I find it less jarring than those settings that have highly advanced magics and education systems, but still refuse to advance their knowledge base. Any time mages organize into schools, they should make some pretty significant progress in the sciences. Calax Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 True, but it's still a little wierd to go from brothels and bleedings to "It's like a cancer cell but slightly modified, and btw, here's a definition of mutant! And Evolution!" Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Tale Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 (edited) What's wrong with brothels? We still have brothels today. I don't think I've seen anyone in the Witcher espousing bleedings. At least nobody with an education. They simply managed to achieve scientific insights with magic prior to industrialization. HoonDing Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 http://steamcommunity.com/id/Calaxprimal/s...1381?tab=public Someone at CD Projekt failed biology class. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Orogun01 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 True, but it's still a little wierd to go from brothels and bleedings to "It's like a cancer cell but slightly modified, and btw, here's a definition of mutant! And Evolution!" Not really, once you break away from the notion that everyone in medieval antiquity was a raving zealot and embrace the fact that everything we thought to be modern has been thought out centuries ago. You will feel more comfortable with grimy mages talking about mutations. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.

Tigranes Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 You think bashing each other with swords and knowledge of cell mutation are mutually exclusive? Are we seriously assuming modernity is a linear process that happens in the same package that the West happened to go through historically, and it can't happen in different ways in, I don't know, a fantasy world with magic? The 'science' stuff gets mentioned like 3 times in the game anyway. Gorgon Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 In the Witcher universe Greg Darwin published his most important works several centuries before the industrial revolution. They were not widely read or understood, but often quoted by buxom sorceresses Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
pmp10 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 You think bashing each other with swords and knowledge of cell mutation are mutually exclusive? Yes. If you have the knowledge and ability to understand and control cell mutation we should be talking about bio-weaponry not swords. Besides that the whole plague business from witcher 1 suddenly makes little sense.
Tigranes Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 That they know about cell mutation has nothing to do with being able to understand and control it at the level of bio-weaponry. Nothing in TW2 suggests that they have a comprehensive understanding of biology that is analogous to post-18th century development of related scientific knowledge in our own world. I agree that Triss' line about the kayran is pretty silly, but mainly because it pulls in Darwin and such. A pseudo-medieval fantasy world where sorceress uses magic to probe inside the makeup of various creatures and enact purposeful mutations for desired effects? No problem with them knowing about mutation or the existence of cells. Besides which, the world of TW2 makes it pretty clear that this kind of partial knowledge sorceresses have is not exactly listened to or filtered down to institutionalised development of scientific endeavours in the kingdoms of the North. Going from that dialogue line to an expectation of full-fledged modernity is nonsense. Hassat Hunter Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 (edited) I haven't failed. Does Persuasion provide a new bonus? Axii ended up getting me Conjurer, which gave a bonus to Sign damage. Late reply... So that's how I got conjurer. In that case, Intimidation gives "Cover" (+10% damage reduction). Once I find another Persuasion event I will list the Persuasion ability . Also, no one knows where to get Troll Tongues in chapter 1 if not having the DLC? (darn infinite re-download.) Too hard to wait for 1.1 . EDIT: When do we get the Let's Play Witcher II, Tigranes?
